Chapter 43
Eugene didn’t refuse, even though he was tired of eating rose–flavored truffles.
After dessert, it was finally time for the main courses.
The dishes that followed were each more exquisite than the last.
Every time a dish was served, Charlie would remind Kamryn to take a picture.
Kamryn didn’t stand on ceremony. She took a picture of each of them.
For her, those delicacies were luxuries she had never enjoyed before.
For a moment, she suddenly envied Charlie’s future wife. “That woman must have done something great enough
“How happy she’ll be to have such a gentle and caring man doting on her!” Kamryn wondered.
Thinking of that, she suddenly got a lump in her throat. Being pampered felt so good!
“Mr. Franco…”
to
marry him.
As Kamryn cut the foie gras, she said tentatively, “Actually, I think it was my honor to save Eugene by chance that day! You don’t have to be so nice to me. I’m kind of… flattered!”
“Flattered?
“Why?” Charlie couldn’t understand.
“No one has ever been so nice to me my whole life.”
“What about your father?
“Doesn’t he love you?” Charlie was puzzled.
Kamryn didn’t know what to say.
Charlie mentioned the last person Kamryn wanted to talk about. She looked sad.
Charlie seemed to realize something. He smiled and said, “It is only right that I spoil you.”
“Why?”
“Cause I want you to be my future wife.”
Kamryn was so surprised that she almost choked on her food. She stared at Charlie with wide eyes, and it took “Mr. Franco, are you… are you kidding me?” she asked.
Charlie silently sliced his steak. “Do I sound like I’m joking?”
“Umm, yes.”
“Oh?”
Charlie stared at Kamryn sincerely. “You don’t think I’m sincere enough?”
“No.”
a while to swallow the foie gras.
Kamryn put down her knife and fork and asked Charlie earnestly, “Mr. Franco, what do you see in me? You’re not saying that just because my blood type matches Eugene’s and I can give him the cord blood he needs most, are you?
“Well, if that’s the case, you don’t have to marry me. I’ll get back to you when I think it over,” Kamryn quickly added.
“Miss Ramsey, what do you think is the essence of marriage?”
“Love.”
“There are many forms of love, but the essence of marriage is a specific social covenant between a man and a woman.”
“A covenant?
Why does he talk about marriage like business?” Kamryn wondered.

Chapter 43
“When it comes to marriage, it’s important to replace a well–matched partner. Mr. Franco, you’re too good for me.”
Charlie gave Kamryn a faint smile. “I want you to know that I’m not one of those rich kids. I don’t think I need to rely on a woman or marriage to sustain my career.”
What Charlie said in a calm voice was powerful.
Business marriages seemed to be commonplace in elite circles.
Even if a man and a woman were not professionally connected, whether they were a good match was crucial.
Who was Charlie?
He was the only son of a filthy rich and powerful family in Faycaster. Regardless of his family history and his personal accumulated wealth, the money he made in showbiz alone was enough to buy 10 Sexton families or 20 Ramsey families.
In Kamryn’s opinion, even Nicole wasn’t good enough for Charlie.
“Me?
How can I, a poor girl with nothing, be worthy of him?” Kamryn wondered.
“My marriage is all about me and Eugene. He likes you a lot. That’s rare.”
Charlie’s marriage had always been a top priority for his family. They introduced him to a lot of women, including high–born girls, models, and actresses, but none of them managed to win Eugene’s favor.
They were so focused on how to charm Charlie that they ignored Eugene’s feelings.
Eugene was aloof. He was rarely close to anyone, except Kamryn.
It was a surprise to Charlie and also something he was happy to see.
He didn’t want his son to have a childhood with a father and no mother.
Someone had to be Eugene’s mother.
Charlie himself was very satisfied with Kamryn.
Kamryn was patient, careful, and gentle with Eugene. And most of all, she was simple and kind.
Simple as it may be, kindness was a luxury in the materialistic society, especially in the elite circles.
Charlie continued, “The woman I’m gonna marry doesn’t need any outside approval. As long as Eugene and I like her, that’s enough.”
“Marriage is a lifetime event.”
Kamryn added helplessly, “You’re responsible for how you feel.”
Charlie raised an eyebrow slightly. “Can’t you see I’m pleased with you?”
Kamryn was at a loss for words.
Her face went red instantly.
She stared at Charlie blankly, and what he said had no less impact on her than a confession of love!
“You’re gentle, well–mannered, pure, and kind. And I can see that you’re sincere to Eugene.”
“What a responsible dad!
He’s okay as long as his son is happy,” Kamryn thought.
“How can you tell that my gentleness and kindness are real? What if I approached you for your money, pretending to be gentle and kind?” Kamryn asked suspiciously.
“Well, I can’t say I’ve seen a lot of people in all these years at vanity fair, but at least I can tell if you’re acting or if it’s just your nature.”
After a pause, Charlie continued, “Miss Ramsey, you don’t have to doubt my sincerity. All you have to mind is your thought. It’s okay if you don’t want to marry me. I have plenty of time for you.”
“I mean, we haven’t known each other that long, and we don’t really know each other…”

Chapter 43
“How many couples really know each other after 50 years of marriage? How many couples get married and then divorce because of personality conflicts?”
Kamryn was speechless.
“I think real understanding begins on the wedding day.”
Charlie finished slicing the steak and switched plates with Kamryn.
Kann
Charlie as if his beloved one had been taken away from him!
“Eugene, what’s wrong?”
Kamryn sensed that the little boy was angry.
Charlie glared back at Eugene.
Eugene felt aggrieved. He put his arm around Kamryn’s and looked at her pitifully, as if to say, “Don’t say yes!”
Kamryn was even more confused.
Charlie said flatly, “Don’t even think about it. You’re too young to marry her.”
Kamryn almost spat out her drink.
Eugene, however, held his head high as if he were going to fight Charlie to the death!
Eugene’s stubborn expression amused Kamryn!
