My Coldhearted Ex demands a Remarriage -
Chapter 16
She chastised herself for not leaving at least a million behind for emergencies.
With mounting financial concerns—rent, daily expenses, and her grandmother’s medical costs—Elizabeth felt the weight of her decisions.
She had neglected her acting Elizabeth last year, and her scriptwriting endeavors had come to a halt.
But now, with a renewed sense of purpose, she decided to focus on her acting and writing once again.
Fortunately, she had reconnected with her former agent, Ruby Curtis, the night before.
Ruby had been cautious but agreed to meet today.
“Elizabeth?”
As Elizabeth applied the finishing touches to her routine, a soft knock on the door preceded Ruby’s voice.
Elizabeth opened the door to replace Ruby, standing confidently in a sharp, gray business suit, her professional demeanor in stark contrast to the novice Elizabeth had once known.
When Ruby first took Elizabeth under her wing, she was still an industry outsider, overlooked for not having any big-name stars.
But in just two years, Ruby had successfully propelled several unknown talents into the spotlight.
Everyone seemed to be advancing, except for Elizabeth, who had put her career on pause for love and clung to a past that no longer served her.
“Ruby,” Elizabeth greeted, ushering her inside and motioning to a chair.
Ruby sat down without hesitation, her voice laced with dry humor.
“I thought you’d gotten yourself a wealthy husband and left this crazy industry behind.
Yet, here you are.
Did the dream of a life of luxury fall apart, sending you scurrying back to me?”
Elizabeth had never spent much time under Ruby’s tutelage before she chose love over her career.
Their connection had been fleeting.
When Elizabeth announced her decision to leave the industry, it was solely for her new love and their plans to marry.
The man in question came from a rich family and preferred to stay out of the public eye.
Ruby had reluctantly let Elizabeth go, though she wasn’t happy about it.
But now, just two years later, Elizabeth found herself calling Ruby, asking for her guidance to return to the limelight.
Ruby was stunned, but given Elizabeth’s beauty and past talent, she agreed to meet.
Elizabeth, aware of her mistakes, remained silent as Ruby’s sharp words filled the room.
Ruby, noticing Elizabeth’s quiet regret, paused to light a cigarette.
She crossed her legs and continued, “I had high hopes for you.
With your looks and talent, you could’ve been a star.
But what path did you choose?
Before you even landed a role, you were ready to throw it all away for love.
Did you ever stop to think about what it takes to marry into a wealthy family? It could’ve worked out, but now…”
Elizabeth winced as Ruby mentioned Kristopher and Lise.
She lowered her gaze and whispered softly, “Ruby, you’re right.
I was foolish, but I’ve learned.
My career deserves my full attention now.
Let’s put the past behind us.
I’m ready to focus on acting again.”
“What if love blinds you once more?” Ruby asked, her concern masked by her pride.
Elizabeth raised her hand solemnly, her eyes filled with determination.
“I swear, it won’t happen again!”
Ruby allowed a faint smile, and the conversation ended there.
Ruby spent several hours with Elizabeth, testing her skills in various roles.
Seeing her talent was still intact, Ruby began formulating a plan for her comeback.
Before leaving, Ruby gave some final advice.
“With your beauty and talent, don’t settle for smaller roles.
But remember, you’re starting over, so leading roles won’t come immediately.
I’ll replace auditions for you, even in smaller productions.
Focus on honing your craft—don’t let me down.”
Elizabeth nodded eagerly, her determination clear in her eyes.
