My Jealous Alpha Stepbrother -
Chapter 89
Josie
After breakfast, I let Misha take the wheel. We are heading to the field where he will battle against Asher in the alpha tournament.
Silence has settled between us, but that’s okay. I know I’m the only thing on Misha’s mind.
As he drives through the city, I feel him glancing at me at every possible opportunity. I pretend not to notice. I try to play it cool, but when Misha’s eyes meet mine in the rearview mirror, I have to stifle a laugh.
He is really bad at stealing glimpses. Not that I mind. I secretly like the attention, but I also feel vulnerable and exposed for admitting to Misha how much I like him.
The eye contact? It speeds my heart up, and suddenly I’m thrown back to feeling like a little girl in love. I’m such a sucker for this guy, in deep with nothing to keep me afloat. I’m just drowning.
Blushing, I look out through the window. “Are you nervous about battling Asher? Your childhood enemy?”
“Pssh,” Misha rolls his eyes. “We both know that i***t will make a fool of himself and lose within three seconds. Asher is the last thing on my mind right now.”
I arch an eyebrow and start to tease him. “Oh. Is something else on the alpha Misha’s mind?”
He laughs in amusement. “I’m not an alpha yet,” I love the little dimples around his mouth when he glances at me. “And yes, you’re on my mind a lot… but another thing is also bothering me. Something that isn’t nearly as fun and lovely as you.”
“And what is that?”
“I overheard my dad talk with my mom as I went upstairs to brush my teeth,” Misha’s lips turn into a hard line. “Unmated females have been disappearing at night. Not a trace of them left. They are all gone without a scent to track down. It’s strange. Because if someone killed them, there would still be a smell of them.”
A shudder passes through me, and I blink, and I blink. It’s like my mind is trying to tell me something. It’s on the tip of my tongue to remember and say what it is, but I can’t grasp it.
I furrow my eyebrows. “I’m not sure why, but when you said that thing, I suddenly got this weird headache.”
Misha is about to turn into the path leading deeper into the forest. Eventually, it will take us to the field.
“You get headaches often?”
“Uh-uh,” I shake my head and grimace at the pain in my temples. “Never. I’m a werewolf, and we are free from s**t like that, but right now, it feels like my brain might explode.”
“Magic?”
“Maybe…” It would make sense. I’m not sure who would give me a magical headache or why, but werewolves aren’t supposed to suffer migraines. We are immune.
“Does it hurt a lot?”
“Yes.”
Misha worriedly glances over at me. “I could take a look at you once we have parked the car.”
I grin at him. “Take a look at me, huh?”
He smiles but says nothing. Instead, he parks the car and gets out. I can’t help but feel a tad bit disappointed at that. Did Misha just ignore me flirting with him? Yes. Yes, he did.
Grumpy at my mate for ignoring my advances, I jump out of the car. Misha stands before me in less than a second, smiling because I’m wearing flip-flops, which has put quite the difference between us.
I roll my eyes. I’m tall, but this i***t is even taller, and it still amuses him for some dumb reason because he is a child.
“I should examine that headache,” Misha says and steps closer, close enough that our chests are almost brushing.
I stare into his t-shirt at the hard peaks that are his n*****s. He is ripped—most werewolves are, but Misha is REALLY hard. I can see the outlines of his pecs and abs, and my mouth waters.
Would he mind if I coped a feel?
No.
Misha probably wouldn’t even care. He has too much self-control, and even though we had s*x yesterday, he ignored me flirting with him. Pretty sure Misha did that at breakfast too…
After telling Misha his hair looked nice when he had newly woken up, he fled to brush his teeth. I didn’t think too much of it then, but it was obviously a way to shut down my advances.
Does Misha want us to go slow even after finishing the mating ritual? Even though he marked me? I’m so confused…
“I feel something placed on you…” Misha mumbles. “Ancient magic… magic I haven’t felt or seen before… it might take a while to remove it. I’ve never seen magic like this. It’s… darker.”
Even though I hear what he is saying, it’s rather hard to focus when a hot guy is touching you.
Misha’s fingers are on my scalp, gliding over my head. His fingertips are warm, hot, and cool—all at the same time. I shudder in my own skin, way too aware of his touches.
Goddamn.
I’m growing hotter. Misha is focusing on my head, but I’m staring straight into his chest, wishing he could remove his shirt. No one would stare if he was shirtless. We are all shifters here, and no one else but us two are standing in the parking lot anyway.
Ugh, would he mind if I touched him?
I place my hand on Misha. He turns tense, probably surprised at my hands suddenly groping his fat pecs. Does he mind? He isn’t removing my hands but allowing me to explore. Still, I’m nervous. I’m playing with fire, and I’m very aware of that.
I should not be doing this so close to the field.
Oh, who am I kidding? As if I could stop myself from touching Misha. His body is freaking ridiculous!
My hands run lower, and Misha’s breathing fastens. I’m running my palm along the happy trail under the soft fabric of his shirt. In my opinion, it’s sexy and masculine. I love it so much.
Misha doesn’t shave his junk. I prefer that, and a little m**n leaves my lips when my hands go even lower. My fingers play with the elastic waistband of his boxer briefs.
It’s so fun, especially when Misha’s body stiffens. I’m teasing him and bite back a smile when the scent of arousal fills the air.
I’m naughty, and Misha swallows audibly. “Josie?”
“Mmm?”
“What are you doing?”
I lift my head. “Well, I’m—”
The words die in my throat when I suddenly what happened with Blaze and his weird brother, Elijah. I see the victims, the girls, and my playful smile is replaced with horror.
Misha peers down at me. “Josie, is something the matter?”
I meet his eyes and nod. “Yes… I think I know who is responsible for all those females disappearing.”
