My Mate Is An Omega -
Chapter 11
Caitlyn POV
The night with my mate was a bliss. It was so magical and enchanting it honestly seemed like some kind of dream. After we confessed our love to each other, I pretty much passed out in his arms. Whether it was because of my daze or the exhaustion from the intense experience, I had no memory of what happened afterwards. Needless to say, I was a little disoriented when I woke up on the bed, instead of on the rug where we made love.
As I took my first breath in the morning, a small groan escaped my lips. Werewolves usually healed quite fast, but being a wolf of lower ranking blood, it usually took longer for my body to be completely revitalized than it did for a Gamma or Beta - hence why I wasn't surprised when I noticed I was still a little sore. As I shifted in bed, it seemed slightly bigger than usual. I opened my eyes in confusion only to replace out my mate wasn't with me. In fact, he wasn't even in the room. "Lance?" I whispered.
The next second, the warrior appeared right in front of me. "I'm here, beautiful," he told me with a smile, crouching in front of the bed. His green eyes locked on mine as he carefully caressed my cheek. "How are you feeling?" "After last night? Amazing," I chuckled.
His grin intensified as he joined me in bed, pulling me close to his chest. "I mean the pain. Is it gone yet?"
"Not entirely. But it was worth it," I replied blissfully. "Where were you just now?"
"Washing the rug. There were... a few stains on it." I immediately looked away, blushing. He forced me to look back at him by pressing his index finger against my chin. "Don't worry, it's been taken care of. I'm sorry I wasn't here with you. I didn't want you to wake up alone," he muttered sincerely. "Didn't expect you to be up so early."
"I... I kinda felt your absence."
"That would be the mate bond. We are even more connected now that we've completed the mating process," he recalled, leaning down to allow his lips to meet mine. "Our connection will grow even more..." He trailed kisses down my neck, stopping at the spot where it connected to my shoulder. A quiet moan left my mouth when I felt his teeth graze against my skin. "When I place my mark on you."
"And when would that be?" I teased.
"As soon as you ask for it." There was only seriousness in his eyes as he turned back to me. "I told you. All you have to do is say the word."
"I'll think about it." I snickered.
As we lazily laid together in bed, I couldn't resist the urge to run my hands over Lance's muscular chest and stomach. He let his head fall backwards, enjoying my caress. The sound of his heart beating under my ear was the sweetest melody I had ever heard; it made me so calm and relaxed. I closed my eyes when he started to brush my hair, allowing his fingers to travel down my arm, my waist, until they reached my thigh. A gasp escaped my parted lips as he moved to one of my buttcheeks, squeezing it.
"And when will you let me have you again?" he whispered, his nose teasingly brushing my earlobe. "When can I get another taste of that delicious body of yours?"
"Whenever you say the words," I mimicked him. "Just not now. If I remember correctly, today is Monday and you have training to attend."
He grunted annoyedly. "It sucks to be away from you when all I can think about is how I want to take you in every single corner of this house." His words made me heat up on the inside, and it didn't take long for me to feel something hot between my legs. A hungry growl escaped my mate's lips. "I promise you, as soon as I'm back, I will make love to you again and again until you can no longer stand me."
"I don't think that's possible," I laughed.
"Let's hope so."
I rested my head against the pillow as I watched my mate stand up to get ready. After putting on his classic black sports shorts and a tight tank top, he came back to give me a goodbye kiss.
"Good luck in your interview with Dario today, beautiful. Though I'm sure you won't need it." He winked at me, and it made my heart melt. "Thank you. See you for lunch?"
"Of course." He waved at me before he rushed out of the room.
As soon as I heard the door shut, I sighed. Lance was definitely right about one thing I did feel our connection strengthen after our intimate night. The experience also made me feel a lot more confident about myself. I never saw myself as someone special before. I wasn't hot like most she-wolves, I wasn't physically strong, and I didn't consider myself pretty. At best, I was an average girl. However, noticing the hunger in my mate's eyes as he worshiped my body, hearing the passion in his voice when he told me he loved me... It made me feel powerful as a goddess. Every time he called me beautiful, I actually believed I was. I wondered what it would be like once we marked each other.
"You don't need to rush it, Cait." My she-wolf's voice caught my attention. "The marking is supposed to be a special moment. You must only do it when you feel ready. I'd love to be able to communicate with Atlas as soon as possible, but I can wait." "Thank you, Faye. You're the best wolf."
"Aw! And you're the best human," she chuckled. "I'm really proud to be your counterpart."
"The feeling is mutual."
Once she retreated to the back of my head, I sat up in bed and took a deep breath, unable to hold the smile that lit up my face. I couldn't believe my luck. All my life, I had been surrounded by people who loved me, and the number of friends who supported me only grew. Today, I didn't feel weak; I was ready to conquer the world. Holding onto my newfound confidence, I stood up and headed to the bathroom to prepare myself for the big interview.
After a nice, refreshing shower, I scoured through the wardrobe I shared with Lance searching for my best outfit. For a few seconds, I stared at my best cobalt blue sundress. It would look perfect combined with my beige overcoat, but... it brought me unpleasant memories. Memories that made me feel weak. It was the same dress I picked to impress Caleb right before he rejected me.
"It's just a dress, Cait," Faye reassured me before I was overwhelmed by my negative feelings. In an attempt to get rid of them, I shook my head. "Don't let that a*****e ruin anything else for you. The only thing you should remember when you see this dress is how stunning you look on it."
"You're right." I sighed, holding my head up high. I couldn't let him haunt me forever, especially not when I was feeling so brave.
The second I finished getting dressed, I heard a knock on the door. I instantly knew it was Sasha - she had insisted on picking me up and accompanying me to Dario's office. As soon as I opened the door, the girl's jaw dropped. She analyzed me from head to toe before puckering her lips to whistle.
"Damn, girl! You look amazing! Stylish and chic," the Gamma's daughter complimented me.
"You think so?" I turned around a little, trying to check my outfit.
"I know so." She giggled. "You're so gonna nail this interview!"
"I hope you're right," I laughed.
"I'm always right."
Adamantly, Sasha grabbed my arm and led me towards the pack house. I was still taken aback by its modern interior design, however, I couldn't properly analyze it today - not with so many eyes on me. Everyone we walked past turned their heads at me, and suddenly, it became harder to breath. I wasn't used to this amount of attention. Some of them would stop and start whispering, though I couldn't understand what they were discussing. All I knew was they were talking about me. "Don't mind them; people usually stare at pretty things." Sasha winked at me, not helping at all with my nervousness.
Thankfully, we soon reached the Alpha's office. As I knocked on the door, I felt my anxiety building up. If I failed to get the position, I would disappoint everyone - Sasha, Dario, Cedar. Most importantly, I would let Lance down. No, I closed my eyes, drawing in a long breath to push my hesitation away. I can do this, I reminded myself. Being the Alpha's assistant is a lot of responsibility, which is exactly why I would succeed. I am smart, organized, and quick-thinking. I would show them the potential my former leader saw in me. When I opened my eyes again, they were filled with determination.
"Sasha. Caitlyn." The tall man nodded at us as soon as he opened the door. His serious semblance and powerful aura were intimidating, but I didn't shake. "Please, come in."
"Thank you for meeting with me, Alpha Dario." I bowed respectfully at him, never ceasing to smile.
"It's not a problem at all." He waved me off as he relaxed against his chair, gesturing for me to take a seat while my friend stood behind me. "Sasha insists I should get an assistant, and a wise Alpha knows Gamma's are seldom wrong."
"I told you," the girl's voice echoed inside my head. Her mindlink caught me off guard, making her giggle.
"I just wanna know if you have what it takes. I mean no offense, but Omegas don't usually get such important positions so quickly." His tone was firm, hardly resembling the kind man I met during the trip here. But it made sense; knowing how to separate business from a casual interaction was an important trait for a leader. This wasn't a fun car ride; this was a job interview. "However, I'm hoping to be proved wrong." The shadow of a smile showed in his face.
For the next couple of hours, Dario showered me with questions. First, he asked about my background, my interests, and my qualities. It was the easiest part, since I had amazing grades in school and an impeccable pack record; no fights, no conflicts, no disrespect. In Ninebark, I was the perfect loyal Omega. Then, we moved on to my aspirations, which was a little harder. Lower ranking wolves don't usually have a lot of ambitions, except for replaceing our mates - as long as we had a minimum-wage job and a roof to sleep under, we were satisfied. Still, I had a single foolish dream buried in the depths of my mind - the desire to become better. To beat the odds and the expectations. How tempting was it to destroy the barriers that determined how far an Omega could go? Lastly, the Alpha offered me detailed information about the positions, requesting me to tell him how many of the errands I was capable of doing. My mom raised me to always speak the truth, which was one of the many reasons why she disapproved of Megan's behavior - she was an incorrigible liar. She only ever told white lies, but still. Trusting my upbringing, I was honest with Dario about how far my skills went, adding how I was always willing to learn more.
The moment the Alpha leaned back against his chair, crossing his hands over the desk, I held my breath.
"Alright, you're hired," he informed me blankly, as if it was no big deal. I had to blink a few times as I waited for my tension to melt away.
"I'm hired?" I repeated in disbelief.
He nodded. "You have all the qualities I look for in an assistant. You're loyal, but not afraid to speak your mind. You have the desire to improve, which means you'll never be faced with a problem you won't be able to solve. And, of course, you have good enough grades to become a Kappa if you want," he observed, leaning closer. "Which brings me to my last question. Why didn't you? Pursue a higher education, I mean."
"I can't say the idea never crossed my mind..." I sighed. "But after my mother lost her mate, I was all she had left. It seemed selfish to leave her behind to go to a college far away."
"I see. Once again, your loyalty shows. I'm sure she's proud of the daughter she has." He smiled before clearing his throat. "Well, I hope you will meet my expectations, Caitlyn. I already think very highly of you."
"I will do my best, Alpha." I nodded confidently. "When do I start?"
"Now seems like a good time."
"Yes!" Sasha's excited screech took us both by surprise. The girl quickly recomposed herself, straightening her posture. "I'm glad to be of service, Alpha Dario. I will take my leave now." It was weird to see her being so formal. I had to hold back my laughter as I watched her walk away.
The first tasks Dario handed me were quite simple, almost like an introduction to the job. I checked a few pack reposts and corrected mistakes, as well as taking quick notes to save him time whenever he decides to read them. In just a few hours, I was already loving my new job. I had experienced it a little with Cedar before I moved here, but the challenge of having an important position in a new place I wasn't quite familiar with yet was both scary and exciting. I barely noticed time passing by, and before I knew it, I was given a break for lunch.
I was surprised to meet Lancaster right outside the Alpha's office. Apparently, Sasha couldn't keep her mouth shut and ended up telling him about my successful interview before I could do it myself. He congratulated me in the best way possible - with his warm smile and a lot of passionate kisses. Together, we headed towards the dining hall, where our friends were already waiting for us. They had been kind enough to save us a couple seats at the table they picked in the corner.
However, our peaceful lunch break was soon disrupted by a group of not-so-friendly she-wolves. They were standing at a distance, speaking loud enough so we could hear them, but lacking the braveness to approach us directly.
"I still can't understand why Luke and Sasha hang out with these strays." From her tone, I guessed she was either a Kappa or a higher ranking member. "They keep adding more Omegas to the group. They even have an outsider now!"
"I know right!" A second one scoffed. "Did you see the way she was walking around the packhouse today? She just arrived, yet she acts like she owns the place!"
Focused on their conversation, I didn't notice how annoyed my mate was until he stood up abruptly. The second he glared at the girls, they gasped. My heart immediately started racing.
I had a feeling this wouldn't end well.
