Chapter 8

Frank was not aware of what Maria had eaten. He glanced at Paige, who had been feeding Maria medicine all along.

Paige’s heart skipped a beat, and she nervously lowered her head. She whispered, “Miss Greenwood didn’t eat anything.”

Ginger frowned disapprovingly and grumbled, “How can she take medicine on an empty stomach? Even without medical knowledge, common sense dictates that such stimulating medicine should not be consumed on an empty stomach!”

“Miss Greenwood has been unconscious and couldn’t eat anything. I thought giving her some medicine first to help her recover faster,” Paige explained softly, feeling a bit uneasy.

Ginger still wore a displeased expression as he turned to Frank. He said, “If your wife wakes up, make sure she eats something first. After lying down the whole day, even if she is of a strong disposition, her body would suffer if she went hungry. Just give her some hot oatmeal. Have it ready shortly after she wakes up.”

“I’ll go make it now,” Paige said. She did not dare to linger and hurriedly left the room.

Once she left, Ginger let out a breath. He did not hold back his tongue and said, “I know you don’t like her, but she’s your wife now. Don’t let the servants overstep their boundaries!”

Frank’s face darkened, and he glared disapprovingly at Ginger. His tone remained stoutly firm as he said, “I didn’t choose to marry her. Since she chose to marry me, she must bear the corresponding consequences! After you’re done, you can leave!“;

He turned abruptly and walked briskly out of the bedroom.

Ginger turned to glance at the woman with a complexion as pale as snow. She resembled a sleeping beauty.

Shaking his head in exasperation, he picked up his medical kit and left Johnston Court.

In the kitchen, Paige was somewhat aggrieved as she prepared hot oatmeal for Maria. Beside her, Karen was indignant. “Why is she so delicate? I got better after enduring a couple of days with a fever. She’s such a pampered woman.”

“Don’t say that. Anyway, she’s Mrs. Johnston, and it’s my oversight,” Paige said, lowering her gaze and continuing to cook the hot oatmeal with a ladle in her hand.

Karen wasn’t pleased. “That’s just like you. There’s no need to be good to someone like her. How long can she stay here? Who

knows…”

Karen’s voice suddenly stopped. She lowered her voice. “The butler is coming.”

Paige turned to look and saw the butler walking towards the kitchen. Soon, he reached the doorway and beckoned them, saying, “Paige, Karen, come over here.”

Paige turned down the flame and walked over with Karen, wondering what the butler wanted.

The butler inquired, “Who made the grilled steak this afternoon?”

“What’s the matter?” Paige asked as Karen listened attentively.

“Mr. Johnston thought it was good,” the butler said.

Paige hadn’t spoken yet when she heard Karen’s voice. “I made it.”

The butler raised an eyebrow and furrowed his brows. You can cook?

Karen had claimed not to know how to cook when she first arrived.

“I learned from a mobile phone app,” Karen said, turning to Paige and blinking at her. “Paige also said it was delicious, didn’t you, Paige?”

Paige held back what she wanted to say, silently nodding to confirm that Karen had cooked the grilled steak.

The butler believed them and went to report to Frank.

After the butler left, Paige looked disapprovingly at Karen. “Karen, it was made by Miss Greenwood. How can you claim that you made it?”

“So what? It doesn’t matter. What if Mr. Johnston wants to reward whoever made the grilled steak? Shouldn’t we benefit instead of her?” Karen dismissed it carelessly. She reached out to grab Paige and whispered, “Paige, please don’t say anything. I beg you.”

Pursing her lips, Paige nodded, feeling somewhat uneasy. ‘Could this kind of thing be kept a secret?‘ she wondered.
