Chapter 8: Unexpectedly Becoming a Captive

Melissa's POV

Chapter 8: Unexpectedly Becoming a Captive

After tossing the steering wheel to me, he easily subdued the wolf.

Elliott could not tolerate the infringement on his authority and prepared to end the creature quickly.

"Don't kill him; we can use an asset like this!"

Courteney's voice timely halted him as she quickly tied up the assailant.

"Didn't I tell you to stay home and take care of the baby?"

As he spoke, Elliott's gaze brimmed with tenderness and anticipation, reminiscent of the time I first learned I was pregnant with Aaron.

"I always feel restless at home; I'd rather be by your side."

Once, such affectionate words were ours alone, but now it slipped from another woman's. lips.

Walking along the edge of the meadow, we looked at the wounded and dead of our pack, and I felt as if my heart might split open.

No wonder everyone feared the dark Alphas; their methods were truly brutal.

"The canyon and mountain path are just ahead; I'm not sensing their presence! Courteney, we should head back. They probably just wanted to intimidate us."

I sensed Elliott's concern; he didn't want the horrifying scene of slaughter to affect Courteney and her unborn child.

"No... at the very least, we need to patrol the canyon and mountains."

A strange feeling crawled over my body. Had the dark Alpha staged such a surprise attack. merely to send us a warning?

"Melissa, this isn't the time for nonsense."

Elliott still thought I was upset about Courteney's pregnancy.

He didn't realize I was utterly sick of this damn life; what I needed to do now was embrace my responsibilities as Luna.

As I gazed at the fallen wolves of our pack, I fought back tears that threatened to spill.

Their existence nearly annihilated our entire territory, and every one of the dead was one of us.

I wondered how Sebastian had trained them to possess such terrifying combat skills.

Where were Atrias and the others from the alliance? Why hadn't they come to our aid

when such horrors unfolded?

"Please, Melissal Now isn't the time for this. I..."

Before he could finish, I keenly sensed a powerful force rushing toward us.

Instinctively, I reached out toward Elliott and Courtency.

But Elliott thought I was about to attack them; he instinctively quickly moved Courteney way with one arm.

I then faced the bearded man lunging at me.

I braced my shoulder blades to against his attack, only to discover there were more behind him.

Before I could react, a force behind propelled me forward, crashing me into the attackers.

Two men in black masks seized me and leaped into the canyon, and before I knew it, they shoved me into a black van.

I hadn't expected to leave Elliott's sight so easily.

Realizing I had become a captive, I sat quietly throughout the ride.

To my surprise, I spotted a trembling Phoebe and the injured Kala in the van.

The roof had been violently struck twice, yet these men showed no interest in lingering and quickly sped away from the scene.

""Did Elliott throw

you to them?"

Phoebe's face was filled with disbelief, and her tears flowed freely.

I didn't even know who had shoved me from behind; I'd rather focus on confirming Courteney's involvement, as it would ease my mind considerably.

Seeing that I didn't respond, Phoebe trembled as she buried her face in my

embrace.

"Swan gave me to them, allowing me to become the prized possession of the dark Alpha in exchange for sparing our territory, so he could secure his fated mate and release our entire pack." Kala struggled to utter each word, and I was shocked by the brutality of these guys.

As I reached to help her up, Kala shook her head. Sensing my confusion, she explained,

"The wounds were inflicted by my Alpha, whose mate has entwined with another man."

At this, Kala scoffed, her eyes filled with disdain.

"But you are an exceptional warrior, the eternal Luna of the pack! I can't believe Elliott would cruelly toss you aside."

"It doesn't matter. He needs to fight harder to protect the pack and his loved ones. It's only natural for him to overlook my safety. They were originally going to attack him; I just happened to jump in front." Her reaction was one of shock.

"You're insane! You saved him and that woman? They've wronged you, yet now you're sacrificing yourself for the peace of the entire pack."

I had no more words left. Remembering the true reason for my loss of fighting spirit, a wave of bitterness washed over me again.

"I'm just so tired, Phoebe. I don't want to get entangled with them anymore."

Feeling my despair, she guessed that there might be other issues between me and Elliott.

"Regardless, you shouldn't so easily give up your life. If you stayed by his side, at least you'd be better off than you are now. We're all beings abandoned by our husbands."

Kala had a deeply pessimistic outlook; she speculated that the dark Alpha intended to turn us into mere slaves.

"Courteney is pregnant with her child, and Aaron is no longer the sole heir of the Kauffman family."

As I spoke, tears involuntarily fell from my eyes. At this point, I no longer wanted to hide. anything.

Laying bare all my pride before them, I felt a significant weight lifted.

I couldn't tell how long we had been driving when we finally arrived at an open area.

The man at the forefront was the one who had grabbed me-the bearded brute.

He violently yanked Kala's hair, tossing her into the cabin. I stood up and forcefully shoved him away.

"Hey! Dude, can't you see she's seriously injured?"

I lifted her up, searching for a comfortable spot.

Werewolves had a strong vitality; with proper rest, Kala would surely recover in three days from such injuries.

Just as I laid her down, a sharp slap struck the back of my

head.

"Damn it, you filthy bitch!/This isn't your pack. Your identity as Luna means nothing here. You'd better behave. As our trophy, do you not feel grateful for being given a seat? If you make me angrier, I guarantee that the situation for that prisoner will worsen." 13.6%

"It's true, I haven't been on the battlefield for a long time because of Aaron.

Looking out at the snowy landscape, I wondered if Elliott was comforting Courteney in his arms right now.

I thought these matters were no longer my concern; my past life was over

The northern region was a place of extreme cold, with a highly developed industry.

The castle before us was more imposing than I could have imagined.

"What does your Alpha want to use us for?"

I sniffed the icy air and looked at the man called Brown

He turned to me, sneering in disdain.
