Omega Lost -
Chapter 37
**Sebastian**
"Hey! I had some paperwork....why are you looking at me like that?" Miles asks giving me a wary look.
I step aside so he can see Elena standing behind me.
His eyes widen and his mouth opens to say 'Oh'. "Sorry to interrupt but I have a few things I need you to look at, I can come back later if now is a bad time." Too late asshole.
"No, come in there's something I need to talk to you about too," I tell him with a low growl.
He's smart enough to look a little nervous, but he's my friend so I won't rip his head off for interrupting us...this time. I let him pass and he gives Elena a quick greeting. She gives him a shy smile followed by a pretty flush on her cheeks. Her eyes catch mine and I can't help but smirk at her which makes her face brighten even more. I grab her hand and lead her over to the couch pulling her down next to me while Miles takes a seat further away from us. He looks uncomfortable but I don't give a shit. He interrupted us and I'm not going to pretend to be happy to see him.
"What..." He clears his throat and shifts awkwardly. "What did you need to tell me?"
He must sense the tension rolling off me in waves. Having another man in my house while my bond is so new is making me a little edgy, but he isn't even looking at Elena. Still, my wolf doesn't like another male being so close to her. We better hurry this along.
"Elena has a story to tell, and as crazy as it might sound I want you to take her seriously. Understood?"
He raises a brow but nods. "Of course."
"I'm talking to you as a lawyer, not as my friend," I tell him.
His body becomes stiffer like he's slipping into his professional role. "Okay."
I look at Elena and nod telling her to tell him her story.
"Okay, so the day Sebastian saw me running in the field I had been running away from the Omega School. I saw something there...something I wasn't supposed to."
"Wait. Would it be okay if I recorded this? Just so that we have everything documented for later?" He asks.
She nods. "Sure."
He grabs his phone and sets it up on the table in front of her. He signals for her to continue.
"I had noticed some strange things going on and people that didn't belong at the school. One night I saw two men carrying a body bag out of the school, and again the next night. I decided that I needed to replace out what was going on so I snuck into the elevator that apparently went down a floor below the main school. I saw a whole lab set up and rooms. Rooms with Omegas asleep in hospital beds, some pregnant and others not. When I continued looking around I found a nursery and that's where I found Eli. He was in pup form and I knew something horrible was going on. One of the body bags I saw those men take had been the size of a child. I'm not sure what exactly they are doing, but I can guess. I took Eli and ran thinking I needed to tell someone. Eli is the proof of whatever it is they're doing there." She explains.
Miles stares at her with wide eyes. "There were women trapped in a room?"
Elena nodded. "Yes, but they found me snooping around and chased me. I don't know if any of that stuff will still be there. That's another reason why I took Eli. No one would believe me if they didn't see it with their own eyes." Miles blows out a breath and picks up his phone. "I see. If you think Eli is the proof of whatever they are doing there we need to run some tests on him. Nothing invasive of course, just some blood work. We need to better understand him. If you saw several pregnant Omegas, he must belong to one of them."
"But no men are supposed to be at the school, and yet there had been several coming from that place. One of them must have been Eli's father, right? If the Omegas were in a lab they wouldn't get them pregnant the traditional way would they?" Elena's voice has started rising a little as if the thought is making her panic. "My...my roommate was there. The president had said she was sending her away but she was in one of those beds. Oh my god....did a man...oh god." I grab her hand and pull her to my side. "I don't think they would allow what you're thinking."
"He's right. They wouldn't leave something like that to chance. They most likely acquired samples from men and fertilized the eggs in the lab you saw. The question is why?" Miles says.
"The number of Omegas being born has gone down drastically over the years." I point out. "Maybe they are trying to replace a way to increase the number of Omegas being born."
"Even if that were true, impregnating a few Omegas wouldn't help. Unless it's on a huge scale." Miles seemed to fall into his own head as he took out his phone and starts typing out something. "I need to replace out if anyone has reported anything similar to this. I'll call you if anything comes out. Until then I'll do some research on any news or something even in social media hinting at a fix to the low number of Omegas being born. There is always a weak link sharing something they shouldn't. I just need to replace it."
He has a one-track mind now and stands heading out the front door before I can say anything to stop him.
"I guess whatever he needed to talk to me about can wait. You just gave him a mystery to solve." I wink at Elena but she gives me an apologetic look.
"Sorry, I hope I didn't distract him from something really important." She bites her bottom lip and starts to fidget nervously.
"Nothing we can't handle later. Our company isn't run by just the two of us. Another one of our partners can handle the few deals we have pending. We only really have one major deal that needs my personal attention, and I'm not eager to get back to them." Just thinking about it makes my anger rise.
"Why?" She asks sweetly.
She tilts her head as she waits for my answer. It's adorable and an obvious habit of hers.
"Because they aren't agreeing to our terms. We settled on a final price months ago, but they aren't signing the contract. They keep coming up with excuses and it's dragging negotiations out. I don't like to force companies into signing, so usually I'll drop them and leave them to deal with their own mess. I may want what their company has to offer but I'm not going to waste my time. I have a lot of other shit to deal with." I grumble. "Sorry, you probably don't want to hear me complain about this."
She shakes her head. "No, I want to! I want to know things about you, and your work is important. Actually, it sounds interesting. I can see that what you're doing is trying to help people who are struggling, and I can only imagine dealing with people who know they've failed isn't easy. No one wants to admit they're wrong, especially to a stranger who is incredibly successful."
"I don't know if they would consider what I'm doing as helping. It's not pretty what I have to do to these companies sometimes, but I can't make it personal or I would never get things done." I explain.
"I understand. Actually...I think I would like to see you at work. If you would be okay bringing me along with you sometime." Her face flushes again making me smile.
God I loved it when she gets shy like that. It's adorable.
"Of course. I'd love to show you, but I have to warn you...I can be a little rough when I'm in work mode." I admit because I'm not the kind of man she sees when I'm dealing with difficult people.
As much as I want to be a kind and patient Alpha, it isn't always possible when the animal inside me is so keen on making sure others know who the most powerful in the room is. My wolf likes to show his dominance and a lot of time it comes out in the way of anger. I don't want to scare Elena, but I can't hide it either. Like how a moment ago I was ready to rip out Miles's eyes for looking at her for too long. My wolf is strong, and that can make him...temperamental. Natural of course but not always convenient. I want Elena to see the good sides of me, but I won't lie about who I am either. Hopefully, she won't hold my faults against me.
