Once Upon A Rejection
Part 2 Chapter 25

Molly Morgan’s POV

Grayson has been acting strange all afternoon. On the car ride over her he hardly spoke to me at all and Ezra kept staring at him strangely. I knew there was something they weren’t telling me and I didn’t like it. It was in the back of my mind all the way through the exam I was here to sit.

So much so that I decided to confront June about it. Grayson and Ezra may not want to tell me anything but June was an open book, she couldn’t lie to anyone even if her life depended on it. I waited until they were letting everyone out of the exam room before shouting June’s name to get her attention. She glanced in my direction for a second before looking away again and following the crowd more quickly towards the exit.

This was getting ridiculous. I wasn’t going to let them get away with this any longer. One of them was going to tell me what was going on even if I had to beat it out of them. Scarlett growled in agreement. I couldn’t be sure if that was because she suspected there was something wrong or if her kinky a*s just wanted to play rough with Grayson.

Grayson and Ezra were waiting for us directly outside the exam hall. Grayson had decided that he wanted to be close to me at all times after the incident with Hayden. Even with him being captured and going on to tell us everything he knew, Grayson wasn’t confident that this was enough to keep me safe.

“We should get going,” Grayson said. He was glancing around anxiously. Ezra didn’t seem to be quite so worried, he wrapped his arms around June and kissed her passionately. Grayson kissed my cheeks and neck before wrapping his arm around my waist. He attempted to lead me towards his car but I stayed put.

“I’m not going anywhere until you tell me what is going on.” I put my hands on my h**s and tried to pull myself out of his grasp. It was no use, Grayson wasn’t going to let me get away from him that easily. He growled slightly near my ear, I could feel his hot breath on my neck. He pulled me closer to his body. His fingers were digging into my h**s and his e******n was digging into my a*s.

“I love it when you stand up to me but right now we need to get home.” He kissed my neck on the spot where I bore his mark, licking and sucking slightly on my skin. He was trying to distract me, if my heat hadn’t subsided slightly then it might have worked as well. Now I know there is something he is hiding from me.

“I’m not going anywhere until you tell me what is going on,” I repeated. Grayson continued to k**s my neck and shoulder, activating what was left of my heat. My eyes closed and my head rolled black as my arousal increased. My temperature was already rising and my skin felt prickly and sticky. I g*****d in frustration.

“Maybe I can give you the answers you are looking for.” My eyes opened and shot in the direction of the voice. I didn’t recognise the man who was standing in front of us. I had never seen him before but I knew instantly that he was a lycan. He wasn’t as tall as Talen, he wasn’t even as tall as Grayson but he had the cockiness of someone who was used to being the most powerful being in most rooms. It showed in the way he walked as he closed the distance between us.

Whoever his man was, he had been through a lot. A lycan will heal from almost any wound without it leaving a scar but the one thing they can’t do is grow back body parts. This lycan was missing two fingers on one hand, one eye and most of one ear.

“Who are you?” Grayson growled, his eyes had already changed colour and his claws were starting to dig into my h**s painfully. I pulled him towards me and ran my hands down his back to calm him down. A campus filled with humans wasn’t exactly the best place to turn into a wolf.

“That isn’t really important. What is important is what I know.” The lycan replied, ignoring Grayson’s anger completely.

“Stop being cryptic and tell us what you are doing here.” I replied. Grayson and Ezra looked at me. They didn’t like me getting in the middle of their testosterone fueled posturing to take control but they were just going to have to get over it. Neither of them knew how to be subtle in front of humans.

“Talen is walking into a trap.” The lycan said.

“What do you mean he is walking into a trap? He is at home waiting for me.” I replied. As soon as the words left my mouth I knew I was wrong. This must be what they were hiding from me because all three of them looked guilty as hell. Grayson and Talen were going to be in so much trouble the next time I got them both alone.

“They have already left your pack. They left before I could reach them and warn them about the trap. If we hurry we might be able to save them.” The lycan replied.

Maybe it was naive of me to believe him but I couldn’t hear any sign of deception when listening to his heartbeat. There wasn’t even a slight increase in the rate of his pulse. Grayson looked him up and down one last time before walking in the direction of his car. Holding me closely with one arm and using his free arm to motion for the lycan to follow us.

For the next few hours we drove in silence. We had all tried numerous times to contact Talen or anyone else who was part of the attack but we couldn’t seem to get through. It was like they had fallen off the face of the planet. Their phones went straight to voicemail and they all seemed to be blocking out their mindlinks.

The tension in the air was so high that even the slightest movement could have caused a full fight to break out. Grayson thought that it was safer to travel with the mystery lycan sat between Grayson and I. We were the strongest two in the car and the only two who stood a chance of subduing a lycan if he turned on us.

My leg started to bounce up and down. The whole thing felt like a mistake. We had no way of knowing he was telling us the truth. For all we know he could be an amazing liar who is luring us all into an elaborate trap.

“Will you stop that? Your anxiety is contagious.” The lycan grumbled. Grayson growled and dug his claws into the Lycan’s arm deeply enough to draw b***d.

“This isn’t going to help,” I told Grayson. If he was sitting beside me I would easily be able to calm him but it was much harder with this lycan sitting between us.

“I can see why Talen and you got paired together,” the lycan said. Now it was my turn to get angry. I didn’t know who this man was and yet he was talking about my mate as though they were close. My claws dug into the palms of my hands as I tried to stop myself from slitting his throat.

“Who are you? How do you know Talen?” I growled.

“My name is Vincent. As you probably know Talen and I dated for a while but I promise you that is all in the past.” He replied. My mind was running out of control. I didn’t trust this man before I knew who he was but now I knew I couldn’t trust him.

Talen hadn’t told me much about Vincent but from the small amount he had shared with me didn’t paint the picture of a trustworthy man. He seemed like the type of man that would get me killed just because I took Talen away from him.

Maybe we should push him out of the car door while it is still moving just to be safe. It wouldn’t kill him but it would get him away from us. The thought satisfied Jade but scarlett seemed unconvinced, then again the only things that seemed to satisfy her were s*x and b***d. Maybe she was a vampire in a past life.

‘Take that back right now!’ Scarlett growled.

“I know what you are thinking but I promise you, I am not going to betray you.” He sounded defensive, perhaps he could tell I was thinking of pushing him out of the car.

“Despite what you might think, I am happy that Talen found you. He deserves to be loved and besides I have no animosity towards hybrids, that is my brother’s thing.” He continued. He then went on to tell us about his family in excruciating detail.

Apparently his family had quite a bit of power but unfortunately they were also hugely bigoted. It had been getting worse over the last few years until about a month ago he confronted them about it. They saw this as him betraying the family. His father and his brother held him against his will and even tortured him for information until he finally managed to escape a few days ago.

“I think I only managed to get away because they were so distracted preparing the trap for Talen.” Vincent concluded. After listening to his story I was still worried about how much of it was true but I was more concerned about Talen. Even if all of what Vincent was saying was a lie, he was still in danger and I needed to get to him.

‘It will all work out ok, I promise.’ Grayson told me over mindlink as he reached over to me behind Vincent and lightly squeezed my shoulder.
