Chapter 60

Malcolm hadn’t expected Zachary to stand there and look at him calmly.

He didn’t beat around the bush. “I don’t like you. After you go home today, have your parents arrange for your withdrawal from school.”

When he heard that, Zachary remained calm and proceeded to wash his hands at the sink. “Why should I?”

“Because I’m the heir to Lane Group and the future successor of Titan Corporation!” Malcolm declared proudly.

In Tirion, everyone knew about Titan Corporation.

“If you cross me, you and your parents won’t know what hit them. My family’s company funds this school, so when I ask you to leave, your only option is to leave.”

Zachary arched his brow and wondered how he hadn’t found out that his no–good father was going to give the company to someone else. “Oh.”

Malcolm thought he had agreed to leave and was feeling smug. But then Zachary continued, “I’m not leaving.”

Malcolm flipped. Unable to contain his anger, he raised his leg and kicked him. Zachary noticed what he was going to do out of the corner of his eye and reacted with lightning speed, blocking his attack.

While living abroad, he had taken up kickboxing with the intention of protecting Yvette and Noah when he grew up.

A few minutes later, the only sounds coming from the restroom was Malcolm’s pleas for mercy.

“Do you still want me to leave school?”

“No…”

“Are you going to tell on me?”

“No…” Malcolm had been beaten to a pulp.

Zachary washed his hands again. “Remember, if you tell on me, I’ll beat you to a pulp every time I see you.”

Malcolm chose not to utter a word. He would never tell someone else about something this humiliating. After all, he considered himself to

be a man.

Meanwhile, Kiki had received a phone call and left, so Yvette wandered alone in the crowd. It had been a while since she had walked around Tirion.

It was summer, and the weather changed rapidly. In the blink of an eye, the sky turned gloomy. Soon, lightning flashed and thunder roared as a torrential downpour began.

Yvette stood under an eave when a Bentley slowly pulled up in front of her. The window rolled down, revealing a handsome man’s face. ” Hop in,” Xavier said from the driver’s seat.

After a moment’s hesitation, Yvette opened the rear car door.

“I’m not your driver. Sit in the front.”

Yvette had no choice but to sit in the front because the rear door wouldn’t open no matter how hard she pulled. As soon as she got into the car, she turned her head and looked out the window.

For a while, it was pin–drop silent. The downpour pounded on the car windows, but it didn’t feel much cooler inside the car. Instead, it felt unusually stuffy.

Xavier continued to drive in silence. Yvette looked at the unfamil! Xavier continued to dri

roads, unsure where he was taking her. The car slowly left the main road onto a narrow pathway.

Looking at the desolate road, Yvette suddenly realized where they were. When she had been a teenager, she had been abandoned on this deserted road by a group of spoiled rich kids.

It had been raining heavily, just like that day, and she had been soaked to the bone. She had walked barefoot until the middle of the night.

Xavier was the one who had driven all the way to look for her that night. At the time, he had been like a beacon of light in her life. He had gently lifted her into his car and comforted her, “Don’t be afraid, Yvvy…”

She couldn’t help but wonder how such a gentle and tender boy had become so cold and indifferent. “I guess this is what people meant when they said ‘people change‘,” she thought to herself.

Xavier didn’t stop the car. His Adam’s apple bobbed slightly as his gaze landed on her serene face.

Watching him drive away from that place, Yvette couldn’t help but ask, “Where are you taking me, Mr. Lane?”
