Chapter 97: The Weight of Unspoken Bonds

I noticed how he didn't say anything about my comment of him treating me like a baby.

"Are you leaving now?" I asked him.

"No, I am not leaving. I already asked the maid to bring my laptop so I can work while you take a nap," he said to me.

Why is he treating me so nicely? I don't understand is it because I was on heat and he felt pity for me? AXEL'S POV

These past few days have been hell for me. I have never felt so helpless in my life. Now someone reading this will think I am in love with Lyra and I am dying inside because I can't confess my feelings to her. but honestly it is not far from that. she is my mate and I cannot tell her because she is bound to another and from my replaceing he did her dirty and she is her trying to cool her head.

The first few days when she arrived I had her jailed because I could not tell what kind of feelings I was having towards her. it was so raw and felt new to be and I thought she used some kind of witchcraft on me like someone in the past but I was very wrong because the longer she stayed in the dungeon the more I felt like cutting my head open and removing my brains and cutting my heart open to pull out my heart.

Our oldest maid noticed my irritation and she called me and asked me what was going on and I explained everything to her. she was like my mother after my parents died in a plane crash, she took care of me so definitely she knew something was wrong I was not going to refuse it. After I explained what I felt to her, she was very excited and hugged me and I was so confused.

"What is going on? Why are you so happy?" I asked confused.

"You have finally found her," she smiled at me and I became more confused.

"I have finally found who?" I asked.

"Your mate," she smiled at me.

"No, she can't be my mate. she is luna Lyra and she didn't even recognize me as her mate," I explained to her.

"I have gone to see her and I looked at her neck. Is she from an alpha? I mean is she of an alpha decent?" she asked me.

"No, from my replaceing, her real father was of beta blood and he decided to go rogue and become and alpha," I explained to her.

"Did you see the mark on her neck?" she asked again.

"Of course I have seen it. She is mated to Kyle," I said.

"That's why your pull to her is not stronger and that is why she didn't declare you as her mate the moment she saw you," the old woman smiled at me.

"Why are you smiling like that? it's giving me a creepy vibe," I shook.

She laughed, "You can make her fall in love with you without the mate pull and if she is here for about two years without seeing her mate, their bond will automatically die and she will realize you are her mate and she will be in love with you," she said.

"I can't do that to her. I don't think I can intentionally make her fall in love with me and keep her here for two years for her to realize I am her mate. She will be heart broken because she will think I made her to fall in love solely because I realized we were mates," I explained to my maid who just nodded at what I said.

After we had that conversation, I released he from the dungeon and she explained her ordeal to me although I already knew everything. I was surprised she didn't leave any detail out, she was really trusting and I wanted to protect her from the world.

"Your moves are good but they are a little rough, I will help you smooth them out. Training is tomorrow morning," I said to her and it warmed my heart how excited she looked.

I trained with her personally every morning and I was always looking forward to the next day

The night she started burning up, I was running mad because, I could smell her scent, she smelled of jasmine and vanilla and I was going crazy with want as I wanted to mate with her to remove her pains and satisfy my crazy wolf's desire but I did none of that. instead, I was looking for an alternative and I carried her to the bathtub, switching out the water every few hours.

Her heat lasted for three and it was torture for me, every moment of it. But that wasn't the scariest part because after her heat, she didn't wake up. She had been driven into a coma and she convulsed multiple times in a day.

I rushed her to the hospital where they instantly connected a lot of wires to her and I just watched her feeling sorrowful because I couldn't take my mates pain away.

I stayed by her side everyday and night. I literally turned the side of her bed to a makeshift office.

My beta was surprised at what was going on because it was unlike me to care for a visitor so much that I will basically start living in her hospital room.

And on night when the woman of the veil visited to collect her soul, I realized how fragile she was because, it looked like she was living again her will. It looked like she wanted to die and she will snatch up any free slot of death allocated to her. my heart broke when I saw her cry even when she was in coma and the moments when she died and came back to life, it looked like I was going to die too.
