Chapter 123

Harry explained. "My mother always believed that my father's death was related to the Hill family. Shortly after my father left, my mother had just finished handling his affairs when I was kidnapped."

Julia suddenly stopped walking. She didn't know about Harry's kidnapping. The news hadn't spread throughout Cromont City: Since she wasn't familiar with Harry, she was unaware. She also hadn't heard about it from her parents.

Harry continued, "After I was kidnapped, Vincent rescued me. We escaped together, but when the kidnappers found us, he sacrificed himself to distract them, allowing me to get away. He fell into the river but didn't know how to swim. When I wanted to save him, it was too Harry always hesitated slightly when mentioning Vincent's name. He took a deep breath before continuing, "I hid in the bushes. The kidnappers didn't leave immediately after Vincent fell into the river. They kept searching around."

He added, "I only dared to come out after the kidnappers left. By the time I jumped into the river to save Vincent, he was barely alive. He passed away on the way to the hospital."

Julia seemed to catch a glimpse of sadness in Harry's eyes, but she remained silent, listening quietly to his story.

Harry said, "With his last breath, Vincent entrusted Arya to me. He said no matter what the Hill family did, he hoped I could take care of Arya for him."

Arya was Vincent's only sister. When Vincent said this, Harry keenly sensed that his father's death might be related to the Hill family. However, Vincent never revealed the truth but entrusted Arya to him

"So, is that why you take care of Arya?" Julia asked, "Do you have no feelings for Arya at all? You two were childhood sweethearts, after all,"

Harry replied, "I have never liked Arya. When we were kids, our elders always wanted to match us up. I neither refused nor accepted. I didn't care about the rumors too, so everyone thought we were a couple." Harry looked at Julia's expression as he spoke. "And at that time, I didn't want to be bothered by women, so I thought of using Arya as a shield. At least this way, I can avoid being pestered by women.

"Really?" Julia stopped and looked into Harry's eyes. "Did you cause the bankruptcy of the Hill family then?"

Harry replied, "Not directly, but I had a part in it. After the Hill family went bankrupt, I had Arya sent abroad." Julia also knew what had happened after that

Not long after Arya was sent away, she married Harry. During that time, she knew about Arya's existence. However, she only thought of herself and Harry as having an arranged marriage and never inquired further,

Now, listening to Harry talk about it, she felt somewhat uncomfortable. She wasn't sure if Harry was opening up to her by telling her these things.

Harry said, "During Arya's time abroad, I was secretly investigating the truth behind my father's death. The documents you saw in the office were real."

"So, the Hill family really is responsible for your father's death? Julia suddenly realized something, her eyes widening in disbelief. "Was your kindness to Arya all just to use her to uncover the truth?"

Harry nodded.

Julia felt she finally understood why Harry's attitude towards Ara was inconsistent. It also explained why she could never sense that Harry truly loved Arya. Additionally, it clarified why Harry was always reluctant to divorce Júlia, even when she wanted to. Because deep down, Harry-ever intended to marry Arya. He w simply using her to investigate the Hill family. Once he had the results, his attitude towards Arya instantly turned cold.

Julia thought Arya would never have imagined that the man she loved was only keeping her around to use her. Meanwhile, Arya remained trapped in the dream of forever being with Harry unable to free herself.

The once gentle Harry now seemed ruthless and indifferent to Julia. To her, he was a person who could ruthlessly exploit even those who loved him, discarding them when they were no puger useful. She now deeply experienced the merciless and coldness of Harry. "Why are you telling me all this?" Julia asked.

"Because I don't want you to misunderstand, Harry replied as he walked beside Julia. He was a head taller than her. He lowered his gaze at her. "You asked me a question before, and my answer didn't satisfy you."

Julia was confused. She had asked Harry many questions, and none of his answers had satisfied her. She couldn't even remember what question she had asked.

Harry added, "You asked me if I remembered a girl who used to follow me around silently. At the time, I said I didn't remember."

At his words, Julia's heart skipped a beat. Could it be that Harry remembered?

How could he remember? He probably didn't even remember who that girl was, or what she looked like. Julia concealed her inner turmoil and asked expressionlessly. "You did say you didn't remember at the time." ruly didn't remember at the time, but later on, I did." Harry suddenly stopped and turned to face Julia.

Julia felt breathless under his gaze, feeling extremely nervous about what Harry was about to say. Her hands clenched involuntarily at her sides and her breathing became uneven. She avoided

his gaze, feeling both anticipation and fear. She hoped for Harry's answer, yet feared it might disappoint her.

Harry stared at Julia without speaking for a long time. He just kept staring at her, making Julia nervous and sweaty. "Julia." His gentle voice struck Julia's heartstrings. She raised her head and inevitably fell into Harry's affectionate gaze. She asked, "What is it?"

Harry responded, "I remember, that little girl was you. You were the one who always followed me secretly. Every time I turned around, you would hide, so I could never see your face. That was why I said I didn't remember why when you asked me about it" Julia asked, "So what?"

Harry said, "So now, I want to confirm something with you."

Julia held her breath, feeling even more nervous. She wanted to avoid Harry's gaze, but he held her chin, forcing her to look at him.

He asked, "Why did you always follow me secretly back then? Was it because you liked me? But when you saw Arya beside didn't tell me."

"No." Jalia instinctively denied it.

Harry could tell Julia was lying. He suddenly smiled and said, "You thought I would marry Arya, so you never showed up in front of me again. When you finally saw me again, it was years later."

The once-hidden affection that Julia harbored for Harry gradually faded over time. Later, when major changes occurred in her family, she didn't have time for lovesickness until she met Harry a
