Chapter 108

Devon took me back to his home after Rhiala actually flew her mate off into the distance. I found it fun to watch. It took my mind away for a little bit. Seeing Rhiala carry her away , I had wished Devon had been a dragon and he could just carry me away too. Weird how I had never actually seen Devon’s home. I had always just assumed he lived in the pack house and then he was staying at the former alpha and Lunas retirement home on the edge of the pack. I was surprised at how modest it was. He lived in one of the smaller log cabins. When we arrived, he had looked at it and shrugged ” They offered me a bigger him , but there was only me so I saw no reason”, he had explained.

” It’s nice ” I told him. He grabbed my hand and walked us inside. It was cozy , all though very minimalist , it had a lot of Devon’s personality in it. It actually made me laugh , there was some art on the walls and there were paintings of naked bodies in s****l positions. No faces, just the bodies of people in s****l positions. I looked at Devon and he was rubbing the back of his neck, looking a little sheepish. ” It’s a guilty pleasure the raw beauty of passion in art , even without the faces you can see, with the hands positioned in certain places. How the back arches? The body can’t lie ” he explains.

” I think they’re good “, I told him. I hated that we met at this time when everything in me was such a mess. We matched so perfectly, yet I felt I couldn’t properly be me with him yet , with my brother’s death and the burden that my family was probably already coming. It felt like I was drowning.

I looked back up at one particular painting. They were kneeling , him behind her. The male had one hand on her stomach, the other at her neck. One of her hands was squeezing his thigh and the other was holding the wrist of the hand at his throat. Dominance. I smiled at it. ” Do you like that one ? ” Devon asked me. I nodded my head. ” One of my kinks is power play , it reminds me of that ” I confessed. His arms snaked around my body. His lips on my neck. ” Now that is an interesting fact I like about you , but first we get some sleep ” he says kissing my neck more.

He pulled back , but left his arms around me and walked me to his room. Opening the door , he slowly stripped me naked , and then himself. Laying us both down, he turned us on our sides so that we were looking at each other , then he pulled my leg up and hitched it up onto his thigh. His eyes roamed my face and he sighed. “What’s going on in your mind Violet , I wish we had that damn mind link so I would know ” he asked me.

A small tear escaped my eye , and ran down my face. He lifted his hand up and wiped it away with his thumb. ” I fear if we did , you would have me called crazy ” I admitted sadly , my eyes kept looking at his face over and over. I needed to tell him , but how ? He would need to tell everyone else , or make the call to leave them all behind. ” What could be so bad that anyone would call you crazy ? ” he asked. ” Not me per se , but my family “, I told him. “Tell me ” he said.

I closed my eyes as his thumb kept stroking my face. ” I used dark magic , my family will have sensed it. As covens we are linked. I used it to protect me and Rion when we were on the run. We were always moving, so it wasn’t so bad. But now I am not moving. Yianna never tapped into my dark magic really , she had her own. Plus, she could read my thoughts. She knew if she used it they would hunt me down. That was the last thing she wanted. When she did, it was away from the island and she would only use it slightly. The magic I have used here for the last few days, has been the full thing “, I told him.

” What will they do if they come ? ” he asks. I can’t look at him when I say it. ” They will do anything they can to take me back. I was the strongest witch to be born for centuries. And ” I took in a deep breath. And let it out with a shudder. ” I was also betrothed ” I said. He didn’t speak , didn’t say a word, but I felt his body tense. I opened my eyes and saw his had turned yellow. His jaw was so tight I was scared he would break his teeth. His nostrils flared , he squeezed his eyes shut. Then he finally unblenched his jaw so he could breathe deeply. I imagine trying to calm him down.

” But we are mated now. Surely that means this betrothel is void because of that ” he says, then opens his eyes. They were still yellow. I feared telling him. I wasn’t scared for myself. He wouldn’t hurt me. But his wolf was close to the edge. ” My parents do not believe in such things as mating , they think it is barbaric for the fates to decide who we are with. Ironic, right ? To say they chose who I should marry while I was just a baby in arms “, I let out a humorless laugh. But he didn’t replace it funny.

” So, will they come here and try to drag you away to marry this guy ? ” he asked and I nodded. I heard a rumbling growl coming from the depths of his chest. ” What exactly is it your parents want from you ? ” he asked. Getting straight to the point. I rolled off of him and on my back , so that I looked up at the ceiling. ” My parents hate most paranormal , they believe that they were born to eradicate most of them. My mother had this vision or dream, whatever you want to call it. Of where they needed to create these super species. Ones that would be strong enough to kill wolves , vampires , witches , bears , dragons, you name it, they want them gone. All except people that would be evil enough to follow their plan “, I told him.

” So they want to make these things. How ? ” he asks. I turned my head to look at him ,and it looked like he had managed to push his wolf back. Right now, his wolf’s brawn was not needed. ” Out of themselves , they want to take all the best abilities and place it in themselves. Me and Wallace were to be the key to that. I married him and linked our covens. Then we turn ourselves into those creatures. In mum’s vision, she only saw two of them apparently. But they are hopeful we can make them these monsters too, once we are turned into them . She believes the two she saw were me and Wallace ” his eyes narrowed.

” And Wallace is the one you were bethrothed to ? ” I nodded my answer and he rolled on his back too, looking up. He put an arm under his head. ” Simple then , I will kill him. Problem solved. No bethrothel , no two monsters , no linking the covens ” he stated so simply. I looked at him confused. Had he not been listening?

Sitting up, I looked down at him. ” Devon , it is not that simple. Both covens want this , both covens will come for me. This is not just one crazy person like Yianna. These are two covens full of demon-worshipping psychopaths. We can not stay here , everyone will be in trouble. They have just defeated one monster and now, because I am here, around a hundred more will descend . Don’t you see Devon? If I stay, everyone will be in danger. I don’t want anyone here hurt because of me “, I told him, tears streaming down my face.

” That is what had been on your mind all day ? Leaving me ? “he asked , jumping off of the bed so he was standing. I shook my head confused, ” No , not leaving you. We are leaving here. Or you choose to break our bond because you don’t want to leave.Either way, I will go , because I do not want any of these people hurt here. I must run , look for a way to mask myself , or something “, I told him. He looked at me like I had lost my mind. ” None of us are leaving , our family here will help us. We can not run from these people, Violet. We run now. We are always running. You’ve been running your whole life, there is no need now. I am here , we are mated and I will protect you ” he said , and I know he believed it. I did, too. Devon would die to protect me. And that was why I nodded , and agreed with him. I know now where his head was at with this. And that was why I had to play this as I would trust him to protect us.

” What about what Enzo would say ? His mate is pregnant , he won’t want this danger coming here. ” I tried one last time before I made the decision for him to see this my way. ” You helped protect his mate , you are my mate and he is my brother. He will help us , don’t you see, Violet, you have a whole new family here just waiting for you. ” I felt my heart break , a new family. One that was actually more like family than my own could ever be. I nodded , looking like I was agreeing with him. I had to do this to protect him and these lovely people. “OK ” I sniffled. ” Can we talk to Enzo about it tomorrow? I am tired. Could we sleep ? ” I asked him. He looked at me suspiciously. But he nodded and climbed back onto the bed , pulling me into his arms. ” I will fix this ” he whispered before he kissed my neck. I had my head buried into his shoulder so he couldn’t see the pain in my face. I had only just found him , and now to protect him I must leave him.
