” Moving on ” I whispered through the headpieces. ” Be careful , I see two to the right “. Enzo’s voice came in. After three days of planning and tracking down their camp , the girls had masked us with a spell and landed us three miles outside of the dark witches’ camp. This was all about recon , to get three questions answered. One are they after Violet or have they moved on from the hunt for her? Two are they still trying to achieve their stupid goal. And three , are the parents dead , or hopefully that fucker Wallace was.

The girls didn’t like that they were staying behind , but we were trained for this sort of thing. To go undetected , it’s what we were built for. Ryken came up the side of me , and grinned. He and his brother loved this. Raan pulled up to the other side of me looking like a giddy school boy. I’m guessing years of being locked away made it so that they didn’t get out much , always hiding.

I ignored the school boys and looked to the right where Enzo had said , sure enough, two tall men dressed in black clothing with eery black eyes stood talking. I looked around , there the camp was about a quarter of a mile away. These men must be on watch or just out for a walk. But either way, we can’t let them catch us. ” We will hold back until they move. Can you move in ? “I asked Enzo. He was with Peter and Samuel. Usif and our head warrior stood back and agreed to watch over the girls while we were doing this.

” Yep , moving now ” I heard the rustling through the headsets. Enzo and the other team were flanking the other side. I was pissing me off having to wait. I kept glaring at the two just standing there. I concentrated on what they were talking about and it was just random s**t. So they weren’t even helpful. Ryker taps my arm and gestures for us to swing back around and go further down. I looked back at the two men and it didn’t look like they were planning on moving anytime soon , so I nodded.

” Moving further down , the two idiots aren’t moving ” I whispered into the headset. “OK , we are at the camp’s edge. So far it all seems quiet ” Enzo whispered back. We quietly but quickly backed up and found another way in. The big beige tents that were set up blocked most of our views. But with my hearing I could hear people in them. ” At the edge too , camp down . And set up the cam’s until we are covered by darkness “, I ordered. Enzo was willing to give me the front seat on this mission. He may be an alpha, but he also knew how to use people’s strengths and I had always been better at tactical missions. We made sure we were covered by the bushes and far back enough not to be heard or spotted. We set up and waited. We placed cameras around too that fed back to the girls in the pack so Violet could help us identify people if we saw them.

We spent the next few hours with our stomachs on the ground and watching. Nothing happened. We saw a few of them walking around but nothing exciting. When darkness fell, it finally became our allie. We made a move . ” Let’ go ,. Remember we set up the cams and the bugs, nothing else. Masks down nd do not engage. Someone gets spotted tap your emergency button for the girls to pull you back, leaving the rest behind to finish up. ” A chorus of confirmations rang through my ear. I looked at Ryekn and Raan. They both nodded at me, dropped down their balaclavas and then we all split up.

We agreed going in individually was the better option. Going in as a group, we were most likely to be spotted. We all had bracelets with emergency buttons on that would signal to the girls who pushed them and they would bring them back. Once we were empty and out of gear that we each had , we would tap it to be pulled back. We would then survallience from back at the pack. Four cameras, four bugs each. We had to make sure we spaced them apart.

The camp was ghostly. Even in the fall of night there weren’t many around. Everything was going smoothly until I heard Ryken swear down the mic. ” What is it ? “I asked quietly, hiding behind one of the tents that I had just bugged. ” I smell her ” he said, sounding frantic. ” Smell who ? “Raan asked. One word came back: ” Mate “.

s**t , he found his mate here. What a f*****g time to. And the place , the fact he would be mated to one of these. ” Raan replace him , keep him out of trouble ” I hissed. ” Enzo ” I said, and he replied ” On it ” he knew what I wanted. We needed to make sure Ryker sniffing out his mate didn’t cause him to do something stupid.

” Devon, I’m out. Do you want me to stay or go ? “Samuel asked. ” Go , we will get them out “, I told him. ” I’m done too “, Peter said, so I told him to go back. ” Warn the girls what is happening , we may have another passenger coming back with us ” I told them. A minute later, they both confirmed they were back in the pack. ” Ryker , talk to us. What’s happening ? ” I asked him.

” I am hiding outside of the tent I know she is in. I need to go to her ” he said, his voice sounding strained. ” Wait for Enxo and Raan , you need back up. How many bugs do people have left ? ” I asked. ” One of each I’m about to plant on my way to Ryker “, Enzo said. “Some one of each I’ll plant on my way to him ” Raan said. ” s**t, I still have three of each ” Ryker informed us. ” I’ll come get them , wait Ryken do not move in ” I said . I looked around the tent and saw the big tent in the middle. I wasn’t sure if anyone of the others had tagged it , but this looked like the biggest tent and most likely the one that her parents or someone important would be in. So, too many eyes could never happen.

The coast was clear so I ran to it. I listened for anyone being inside and couldn’t hear anyone. Slowly pulling the door cloth back, I looked in and saw no one. Taking a deep breath, I risked it and I went in. The tent was pristine and clean. But it was definitely lived in. There were clothes hung up on a rail and a couple of candles were burning for light. I quickly installed the spy tech and got the hell out before the occupant arrived.

I snuck back out and headed towards the guys. When I got there , Ryken was barely hanging onto his control. Puling my mask down, I looked at him. ” You sure she is in there ? ” I asked him and he nodded. ” Listen ” he said tensely. I listened like he said and heard the soft muffled sound of crying. ” Have you heard anyone else in there with her ? ” I asked him and he shook his head no. I looked at Enzo and he shook his head no too. ” Give me your bugs ” I said to him. He hands them to me and I take a deep breath. ” You grab her and you hit your button for the girls to pull you back. Don’t let her scream or anything, do what you can to keep her quiet . Don’t ask , just apologize later “, I told him and he nodded. ” I’ll go in and bug inside here , you two keep watch. “

Ryken practically ran in once he could , so I had to quickly follow. The sight of what was infront of us though was not one I expected. A woman was on the floor dirty and bruised. Attached to her ankle was a shackle on a metal chain that was attached to the pole in the centre of the tent. The girl looked at us with fear in her eyes , but what was surprising, she did not scream. She just cowered in on herself and remained silent.

” Get the chain off and get out of here ” I told Ryken when he just seemed to stand frozen. He snapped into action , grabbing the chain that was attached to her in both hands and pulled the links snapping under his strength. The woman looked up at him with her eyes wide.She gasped when he literally swooped her up off of the floor bridal style. She stared at him wide-eyed the entire time, he hit the button and then a second later they both disappeared from sight. I planted the other two bugs and then went out of the tent. As I came out, Enzo dragged me back. Loud chatter could be heard from what sounded like a handful of people. ” We need to go ” Enzo mid linked me. I still had more bugs , but it looked like we were out of time. Where ever they had all been , they were on their way back. Last thing we needed was them to spot us getting suspicious and look for things and replace the bugs. So I nodded and hit my button. When we all landed back at the pack , Violet was hugging the crying broken and bruised girl on the floor. Ryken looked on helplessly. ” Penance what happened ?” Violet asked her. But the girl was besides herself , hugging Violet like she was a life raft. ” Penance ” I heard Ryken whisper. The girl tensed in Violet’s arms at the sound of it.
