We landed , but we were ready to make a quick a*s escape depending on what reception we got. Black panther shifters were mulling about carrying building equipment. When we appeared, they all stopped what they were doing to look at us. I took in a deep breath ready for the girls to get us the hell back out. But when one of the panther men smiled at us , I blew it out. ” Why are you all looking at us like that, ” he laughed and I literally felt everyone exhale. ” Where is Usif ? “Shira asked, stepping forward. He frowned. ” He has been staying on the wolf’s land , keeping an eye on things. Is everything alright ? “he asked, sounding confused.

Shira looked at Enzo worried. If he was there he could very well be under the spell too. ” Can you link him to come back here ? “Shira asked the guy. He nodded ” I can. Is everything all right, leader mate ? “she asked Shira. ” Dark witches have cast a deception spell on everyone in the wolves land to believe we are the enemy. Alpha Enzo and Luna Anthea came back to test the theory and wolves charged at them. Their alpha influence didn’t make a difference ,” she informs him and he looks taken back. ” What if I fetch him back here and he attacks you all ? “he asks Enzo.

” We will hide out of the way , Shira will greet him and we are hoping the mate bond will stop him attacking her. We ask you all to protect her if he does “, Enzo stated. You could tell the guy didn’t seem overly keen on risking his leader’s mate in such a risky move. ” Did you not go off to defeat these dark witches ? What happened ? ” Shira quickly told him , that the threat now was not the original coven. But another one. Other members of the pride had come to listen to the story.

” I will link him ” he stated once she had finished. They surrounded her , but she didn’t look one bit scared. And we made ourselves hide in one of the partially built buildings they had been working on. We were all ready to jump out and fight the pride leader too, if we needed to, and through the windows, we could stand and watch. ” I don’t like this, what if she gets hurt ? “Anthea said quietly , her hands were shaking when I looked down at her. Enzo put his arm around her shoulder and pulled her into him, kissing the top of her head. ” The mate bond is strong baby , a spell shouldn’t be able to defeat that ” he whispered.

They had caged Shira in so that when Usif first arrived he couldn’t see her in the middle of all of them. Usif looked among the gathering in confusion. ” What is happening ? You said there was an emergency, Kayton ” he asked the guy. Kayton nodded his head and proceeded to tell Usif what we had told him. Leaving out the part, Shira was there for now.

Usif looked to br growing more and more pissed off as the story went on. And when it was done he was pacing. ” How do you know all of this ? You are saying I could want to hurt my mate because I am under some sort of spell ? Where is she ? “he snapped out. Kayden held his hands out towards Usif. ” Usif , she is here. She has come to test whether the mate bond will be stronger than the spell and that you will not hurt her ” Usif stopped his pacing and looked at Kayden with wide eyes.

” WHAT ? No , if I could hurt her she needs to be nowhere near me. Thats stupidity ” he roared. But Shira’s voice came from within the huddle. ” You will not hurt me ” she said , and Usif strode back. ” Shira, you need to leave. We need to replace a way to break this spell before I see you. What if I hurt you? I will not take that risk “he says, sounding panicked.

” You won’t hurt me, Usif. Does my voice make you want to hurt me ? “she asked. He shook his head ” No , but they just said when they saw the alpha and Luna they wanted to attack. What if it is on sight alone ? ” the bodies started moving, parting a little. Usif tried to command them to stop. But they didn’t and when he saw her , we all held our breaths. He turned away so he couldn’t see her showing her his back. ” Shira please” he begged.

” Usif , look at me. If you come to hurt me, I will stop you, trust me, OK. You love me, right ? So you wont hurt me ” she said softly. I saw his shoulder moving deeply , like he was taking in big breaths. Slowly , painstakingly, slowly. He started to turn a little. His eyes were closed and Shira laughed a little. ” You need to open your eyes ” she said and he g*****d. ” This isn’t funny my heart “, he warned her. His hands were balling and unballing into fists at his sides and he looked tense. Then almost comically he peaked one eye open. We all tensed waiting for him to throw into a fit of rage. The panthers around her looked ready to jump at their own pride leader. He opened the other eye and looked at her his deep breath escaping him as he relaxed. He laughed ” Shira ” he said, holding his arms out and under much protest from the pride members, she went running to him and launched herself into his arms.

She smashed her lips against his and we all relaxed as he didn’t make one move in hurting her. ” I told you baby “, Enzo said to Anthea. And she smiled, smacking his chest playfully. ” The rest are here ” Shira said, taking our attention back to them outside. ” We want to see if the spell worked on you, as you’re not a wolf pack member “, Shira told Usif. ” For this , seen as they are not your mates it would be best if we restrained you ” Usif looked at her and looked around. His eyes didn’t land on us though. ” This is risky, my mate , but I suppose I will be the guinea pig ” he smiled at her. ” Have you stayed on the wolf lands since we left ? “she asked him and he nodded. ” Then you will have been there when the spell was cast none of the pride members tried to attack when we turned up here , which tells us they just did it on the people on the wolfs lands ” she explained.

” How shall I be restrained ? “he asked. She shrugged ” The only way we can , that your animal will not break free from it if you shift. And that is a cage ” she admitted, a little guilty. He rolled his eyes and ran a hand down her cheek. ” Do not feel guilty my heart , it is a good idea “, he leaned in and kissed her again. Then she stepped back. ” Ready girls ? “she asked , but did not look this way to clue him in we were in here. The girls all closed their eyes and chanted a spell to conjure up the cage they needed. When it appeared, Usif stepped in without an issue and the pride members locked it with the deadbolt and padlock that was on the cage.

” Okay, let’s do this in small groups and see how he reacts “, Enzo suggested. The warlock women went out first. We watched as Usif clocked them in his sight. Nothing happened. He smiled at them as they approached the cage. ” Nothing ladies “, he said, like a gentleman to them. Ryken and Penny went next and the same thing happened again. Willow, with Samuel and Peter stepped out and he was OK with her. We were beginning to think that maybe the spell had not worked on him. But when us four went , he raged. Like a switch had flipped, he started rattling the cage bars and trying to get to us, like he was possessed.

We stepped back in so he would calm down, out of sight. ” One or all of us set him off ” I said, pissed off. ” We go back out one at a time “, Violet suggested , so that was what we did. It was all four of us. ” Why only you four ? “Peter asked. I g*****d, ” Because it makes most sense, the pack Alpha , Luna and Beta and, of course, Violet, because this was who they were after for their son. Keeping us away from the pack makes us vulnerable. No protection from anyone. They’re separating us , because this isn’y over. They’ve outsmarted us again. Anthea, where did you send Wallace ? ” I asked her. ” To the cave back on that island ” she answered. ” Try to bring him back here ? “I asked her. She frowned in confusion , but she closed her eyes and when no one appeared she opened them up full of fear. ” He is not there ” she gasped. These f*****g dark witches were smart. Of course, he wasn’t there. He would be back with his parents. Plotting and planning their next move. And we were sitting ducks. The rest could go back into the pack , but what could they do ? Unless we broke the spell, we were on our own. Looking at Usif trying his hardest to get to us , it pissed me off. ” Won’t they keep their son away from us ? They didn’t want anything to do with’ Violet’s old coven ? “Willow asked. But they had already done a lot for their son. And getting Violet for him must be something else they are willing to do. If not, why else just us four ?
