Chapter 13

Enzo’s admission to me made me feel some funny things inside. He had thoughts of running away with me, me . I mean , I wouldn’t let him , no way. This is what he has been heading towards his whole life. And you only had to look at Enzo to see , he was meant to be an alpha. Not a rouge on the run.Getting up on shaky legs , I walked further into the cave with him. It was dark , but I could still see him , probably not as well as he could see me though. He was crouched down gathering some stuff on the floor , and I wondered what he was doing at first, until I saw him , striking a match.

He made a small fire and then looked up at me over the flames and smiled. ” You make sure this doesn’t go out , I’ll just go get a few more sticks from outside”. He stands up and walks past me, his scent waves all around me and I close my eyes and breathe it in. I then looked over my shoulder and watched him leave the cave. Looking around, I only saw a few small sticks , so I picked them up and put them on. Taking a seat at the side of it. He wasn’t gone long. He came back with an arm full of sticks and then concentrated on making the fir a little bit bigger. All I could do was sit and watch the way the flames danced and licked off his facial features. The way his jaw was tense and his eyes focused on his task. Enzo was intense , being in his presence felt intense.

He glanced up at me through the flames , and it made me gasp. His face looked wicked , with the orange flickers from the fire dancing all over it. “Are you warm enough ?” he asks me and I nod , unable to talk. He looks around the cave and then sighs ” It is not really a palace for your first time, is it ?” he says, sounding a little annoyed. It was kind of sweet.

” I don’t need a palace ” I told him, a little shy. He looked back at me and studied my face. ” You shouldn’t settle for less in life, Anthea , but then again. I guess that is what I am allowing you to do “. This wasn’t how I pictured this going. I mean it was sweet he was showing me this whole other side to him. But I wanted Enzo, who could not control himself. ” I don’t feel like your making me settle. I feel your showing me a great kindness just agreeing to this.Agreeing to show me , well. To show me happiness and pleasure, I guess, even if it is for just a short time. I feel more alive when we ermm connect than I have my whole life “, I admit. I guess it was only fair after his truthfulness earlier.

His jaw ticks and he smirks and looks down at the fire, shaking his head. ” You must think so lowly of yourself if you think I am the one showing kindness here. You are the one being so understanding , your the one that should be screaming and shouting at me that I am your mate and I should be claiming you , Alpha position or not. Running through the pack shouting it so people know. Instead, all you ask of me , is one week of us connecting as you put it and then you’ll just give up. Talk about telling it straight , I felt tears fill my eyes, and looked away quickly, dashing at my eyes. I know he didn’t want to say this to hurt me , he was just stating facts.
