Chapter 57

I felt like my insides were crushed. My Sianna , the woman I had followed and worshiped, took from me for a second time. I watched as her smaller version of her wolf ran away from me. I really thought this was our second chance. That it was our time. Before, it had always been building our family and this place , saving those that were abused. That had always been Sianna’s goal and I had loved her more for it. I knew once she thought she had fulfilled her role , her attentions would eventually turn to us. To start a family and just live here in peace.

This wasn’t fair , none of this was fair. Why had she picked a wolf that would have another mate? Making my way home , I stumbled through the door feeling weak. I had never felt so much like giving up ever. Not even when she had left , I don’t know. I guess I had always had hope she was still out there somewhere. Like the warlocks had her locked up or something and she would make her way back. I never felt my connection to her break , there was always this feeling she was still somewhere. Even now, I feel it , was it just denial. Had I always kept feeling how I felt for her when she was here , so I don’t have to face the truth of not feeling it ?

I crashed to the floor in my living room and lay there who knows how long. I saw the sunlight on the floor turn to night and then the light start to reflect on the floor again. All I kept thinking was why ? Why would Sianna not fight for us like I had always fought for her ? I knew it was tricky , Anthea having her own mate. But I had hopes. When I lay there yesterday with Sianna, I thought maybe that was how we could all compromise. I would have Sianna the wolf and Enzo could have Anthea , the human counterpart. Or deep down I just wished they had both picked me , but I knew that had been a long shot.

I wasn’t blind , I saw Anthea’s attachment to Enzo. I just hoped something would change if she spent more time with me. The door opened , I heard footsteps and then they were in front of my face. ” Ergghhh how could you f**k this up. They are down there now flashing off their f*****g mating marks to everyone. ” I felt so weak I couldn’t even look up at the voice. ” f**k what up ?” I asked , curling further in on myself , the only people she could be taking about with the mating were Anthea and Enzo. They didn’t even waste any time. As soon as Sianna had taken me out of the picture, it was fair game.

The foot in front of my face tapped , she was pissed. ” Twice now , f*****g twice you f****d up. Why we keep you around is beyond me. I told her you were f*****g useless. But no , she said you’d still be of use. That f*****g spell is of no use now, is it ? I mean I don’t blame her look at you. You are f*****g weak and pathetic. At least he looks like a real man , sniveling piss ants hiding behind women. He dosen’t. He wouldn’t let his mate f**k off and fight alone like you did “. The foot pulled back and booted me in my stomach. I didn’t even try to stop it , in some way, welcomed the physical pain.

I felt the wind blow out of me. ” Get the f**k up , we have damage control to do. If we can’t use her as her mate. Then we need a different angle. Maybe a friend , a trusted person. Or f*****g shape shift and become Enzo , or that b***h witch that f*****g knows something I know she does. Who she may spill her guts to. We want that magic a*****e. We know she didn’t loose it fighting f*****g warlocks, or die by our hands. We would know ” . The foot starts tapping again.

” What ?” I wheezed. ” Are you talking about Sianna ? ” I heard a huff. ” I think we’ve warped your brain too many times. Of course I mean f*****g Sianna “. The foot slammed in at me again , with another order to get up. ” Sianna died ” I coughed , ” Warlocks have her magic , what are you talking about ? ” I asked , finally glancing up at her. She glared down at me , her eyes wild with anger. ” She put a hand out and my body started floating up off of the ground until we were at eye level with each other “.

I knew letting her bring all her friends here was a bad idea. ” I had in on there minds , now b***h witch has done something she’s blocked me outer something has. The minute they all stepped off of the boat. It has to be f*****g Shira , Sianna’s f*****g groupie. Listen to me Rion. You have one more chance to get this s**t right. If not, I don’t care what my half-witted sister says you’r f*****g dead . Get it dead ” she sneers in my face.

” Sister ? ” I said, confused, and a slap came across my face. ” Shut up , honesty I would have killed you by now. But no, she wants to protect her stupid fated mate. Who she f*****g rejected, so what does it matter? Anyway, let’s get this over with, I need to get back to my fake mate “, she placed her hands on my head . I was about to speak and ask her what the hell she was on about. But then my mind started getting all fuzzy and muddled up. Memories started flashing like crazy in my mind and the things i don’t even remember happening popped up there. My vision went dark so I couldn’t see. Then nothing.

Pulling back from the hug, I grinned at my sister. She was looking at me sadly. ” I am so sorry , she didn’t pick you, Rion. How are you feeling ?” Violet said , she had pity in her eyes. ” I’m OK Violet honestly , it was the right thing to do. I am just happy she is alive and well. In some sort of sense “, I laughed and she laughed with me. ” Anthea deserves her chance with her mate , how is it going for you with Devon ? “I asked her. She smiles ” Good , it’s great. Just need to figure out where we will settle down. When all of this is over ” she sighs.

She looks down and then looks back up at me ” What are you going to do now ? I mean where are they at with the warlock thing? I know me and Devon haven’t really been involved in much new mating and all ” she giggles. My beautiful sister deserved this , after all the years of her being alone, this was what she had always wanted. ” Devon said he was going to get stuck in though , help out more. Will it be awkward for you ? Being around them “.

I shook my head no and rubbed her arm. ” No , I think now the whole mate thing is cleared up. I would very much like to become friends with Anthea. Without the drama involved. Help them get Sianna’s magic back and then they can go back home. It’s what they want , so I shall help “. Violet grinned at me a little too happy. She patted my arm. ” Good for you , handling all of this so well. Not like a weakling . Well, no time like the present. They are down near the fire pit. I must warn you though , they have completed their mating. Everyone is congratulating them on their marks ” she eyed me up.

I felt a little pang of something in my chest , a small dose of sadness. But more than anything, I was happy for them. ” I had better go congratulate them myself then, should I ? ” She nodded ” You should , but don’t be too happy. Remember she just broke off your mating just yesterday. A little too happy and they think you’re crazy . Maybe show just hints of jealousy , a tinge of sadness. But get over it in a day or so to become her friend. “

” Get over it in a day or so , sure ” I smiled and she nodded. ” Come on then, let’s go. ” I followed my sister out of the door and walked down to the fire pit with her. When I saw her , she was hugging onto his arm. With her brother there as well as Enzo’s sister all laughing. I felt a little bit of jealousy and sadness , for what could have been. She looked up at me with a worried expression on her face and I smiled back sadly. Looking across at Enzo who was watching me , I looked away from him to her hand on his and felt jealousy. I came here to congratulate them though , so looking at my sister who smiled at me encouragingly, I walked over with her.

” I just want to say , I am sorry for how I acted yesterday. I shouldn’t have been so selfish. This is how it was meant to be. Me and Sianna had our chance of mating. It is your turn now. I am happy for you “. I looked at her hand, it squeezed his arm , for comfort no doubt, and felt a wave of jealousy. Just a little bit. But mostly I was happy for them , so I looked back up at them and smiled. ” Lets get on with figuring all of this out, yes , so you can get home. I can only imagine your day today will be full of celebrating your new mating. The radio is free to use if you want to give the news to them back home. Then tomorrow we shall crack on, shall we ? “I felt a touch of sadness wash over me as I held my hand out to them.

Enzo looked down at it with suspicion. So did Anthea , but eventually Anthea shook my hand first. When she did, she looked confused at my hand. Then she looked up at Enzo without letting go of my hand. It looked like they were communicating. I pulled my hand back. ” You two have been blessed with being able to communicate through your mind ? “Enzo looked at me and nodded once. He was looking at me weirdly. I felt Violet’s hand on my arm. ” Let’s let these two celebrate, congratulations you two. I will send Devon down. He has been helping me fix some things in my house. He will be so excited , he just feels awful that we have been so wrapped up in each other. I’m sure he will be down here any minute now. Rion just needs a minute to process all of this. I’m sure you understand. A mate rejection is devastating. ” Anthea smiled at her , and then looked up at me. ” I’m really sorry Rion ” she said. That wave of sadness washed over me again. ” This is how it should be , it was selfish of me to think other wise. Like Violet said , just give me a day or so. I would really like us all to end up friends. I believe we all met for that reason , if being mated was not meant to be “, I smiled.

Turning, I walked away and crossed paths with a very excited looking Devon and he ran to his friends. Everything was how it was meant to be.
