” It’s gone ” I said. Rion’s hand grasped mine and I felt nothing. Looking up at Enzo , I felt confused. ” What do you mean , what’s gone ? ” Enzo asked through our link. ” The connection , I don’t feel anything. No buzz no nothing ” Enzo looked at Rion. So did I , he was acting strangely. The Rion I left yesterday was a devastating mess. Today he almost looks robotic. I wouldn’t have expected to see him for a few days. I mean a mating rejection was meant to be painful. Were bonded ones not as painful ? Surely mentally it was, especially when he made it obvious it wasn’t what he wanted.

” How can it just go ? ” Enzo asked as Violet was talking. ” I don’t know ” I said, feeling confused , I had to admit it was a relief it was gone. But still a bit weird that it was. They were quick to leave , and a very excitable Devon was in there place hugging us. ” s**t guys its about f*****g time. I’m so happy for you both. Sorry I haven’t been of much help , but you’ll both understand now. Mating man , as soon as you feel that bond it’s like a live wire starts sparking inside of you “, he laughs. He pulls back and looks between us both. Enzo didn’t seem too happy with him. He crossed his arms over his chest. ” You going to pull yourself away and actually help , we want to get our asses home at some point, you know ” he asked, eyebrows raised. ” Thats unless you don’t plan to come home , and that is why you are avoiding ” he questioned Devon.

Devon shook his head and looked a little sheepish. ” No , no, of course not. My home is in the pack , but dude look at this place. Its f*****g paradise. We deserved a couple of days to enjoy it, didn’t we ? ” Enzo huffed. ” Look, we have got and take Abigail to speak to my mum before she flips, then meet Shira. Go enjoy the island all you want. I’m getting this s**t done and getting home. Do you know Antheas’ dad was hurt , or that my dad had to take down several pack members that had become volatile ? That his beta is still in the holding cells and looks like he won’t be coming out. His mind was set that Anthea shouldn’t be Luna of the pack ,that his poisonous daughter should be ? ” Devon shook his head no.

” Let’s hope me and my beta are on the same page. He and dad have been bestfriends years , brothers and look whats happening. I need a beta by my side, Devon ” Enzo grabs my hand , then walks us away from them and leaves Devon behind. Devon looked mortified and upset. “What was all that about ?” I asked when we were out of wolf ear shot. Enzo glances down at me , and then looks straight back forward. My brother and Abigail were following us as we headed to Rion’s house. ” He’s been awol , I need to know he is there to have my back and yours when the time is needed. He knew why we were coming here, yet he was awol. I can’t make the same mistake my father had with his beta Anthea , if you are going to be hunted for your magic. I can’t make no mistakes , I have to keep you safe. I get he’s just mated , but still. If he was to be absent this whole trip and be of no use to the cause , then he should just have stayed in the pack.”

I looked back at Peter and he was looking a little guilty , he was being harsh on Devon for something we had all done. But he did have a point , and it just showed how serious Enzo was about wanting to get this over with. He wasn’t enjoying it there. Not one bit. We spoke with his parents and they were over the moon to hear we had completed our mating. I asked about my father and his mum told us he was still refusing to see our mother. His wolf was getting weaker. We arranged for them to let us talk to him tomorrow. He was currently sleeping and with how weak his wolf was, they didn’t want to wake him. I asked how my mother was doing. I knew we weren’t exactly in a good place , but I still cared. Apparently she had been camping outside of the pack house , begging them to let her in to see my father. Peter said they should let her in , her and dad needed to talk. But the alpha was reluctant to go against my father’s wishes.

We left Abigail to speak with her parents after that , Rion wasn’t in the house. No idea where he had gone. But we needed to go see Shira to see where we could go from there. Or if she had found more out. She was waiting for us at the waterfall when we got there. It looked like she had been there a while. She had books open scattered everywhere. Snack wrappers and empty bottles. She glances up at me when I came through the waterfall first , and at first it was like she wasn’t really seeing me. Then she shook her head and rubbed her eyes with the palm of her hands.

” Shira, how long have you been here ? “We have only just left this morning. She waves her hand ” I’ve been reading all night , I just moved my work station here, when I knew you had left. ” Enzo stands at my side and she thrusts a book up at me ” This is the only book I have found out of thousands of books that mention anything about the warlock king having daughters. It’s one fleeing sentence , and it’s in a grimwar of a witch from hundreds of years ago. Most of her other scribblings and spells were crazy and erratic. I would have classed her as crazy. Nothing really makes sense , but she had been alive a long time. So I thought, why not give her a shot? There she says she met the warlock king’s twin daughters while visiting. The king had called her in to look at the women that were turning into pretty much living statues. Nothing anywhere else. Not in council records , not in mythical stories , or other witches that had dealt with them. Like, why would they be kept so quiet? I know the warlock king was a massive sexist pig. But would he be so much one that he his the fact he had daughters ? “

She looked at me like I could answer her , so I just shrugged. And then I looked at Enzo , so he could answer it. He just shook his head too and Shira huffed. ” This witch died years before Rion wrote this in his diary. So how did this other witch know about them? How did a witch know about Sianna ? Who cast the spell on them? Maybe it was all this same witch ” she mused.

” My link to Rion was gone this morning. I don’t know the exact second it went. I have been a bit preoccupied. But I definitely felt it first thing this morning still, because I was thinking how much I hated it. Then, when he came to the communal area today , he shook my hand and nothing. No spark or anything. It can’t be because we claimed eachother , because like I said it was still there long after we did that last night. And he was acting weird , like a robot. When Sianna ran from him he was a broken man. Now, today he kept saying this was how it was meant to be. And that he was happy for us ” I told Shira.

Her eyes widened. ” There here , close ” she mumbled. ” Of course they are , I bet they have been here this whole time “. She turned and picked up another book. And starts flipping the pages.” Who’s here ? ” Enzo asks and she holds up a finger telling him to wait. When she was satisfied, she flips the book over and it shows a picture of a hand drawn one. ” This is what someone drew of the warlock castle. It was done by a fairy , there nosey little buggers. I have a hobby of collecting diaries and grimwars , spell books and other things. Of magical beings who have sadly passed. I don’t like the thought of there lives work , or experiences being lost or worse getting in the hands of humans, so I collect them. He was, let’s say, a researcher of paranormals. He went looking for the warlocks and found their castle, but it was abandoned. Or so he thought. Look at the window of this drawing. ” She taps the page and both me and enzo dip our heads

In the window were two shadow-looking figures. One that looked very familiar to the ones I had seen in my visions or dreams, whatever they were. ” Wait, you think the shadowy things work with the warlocks ? “Enzo asked. She shook her head ” Nope I believe the shadowy things are warlocks. The daughters meant to have killed their father, right ? No one had seen any warlocks in years. What if they killed them all ? Or hid them ? What if the shadowy figures are the twin warlock princesses ? ” she looks at us with glee. “There had to be a reason Sianna was drawn to go after them , look at them for all of this. Sianna was very intuitive. “

” You said there here, so you think these warlock bitches are here ? “Enzo asked. Shira shrugged ” Or I am way off base , but the spell is the one to fake a mate bond , it is a powerful spell. Most of the witches I know who are powerful and talented ones wouldn’t be able to create that spell. Not to mention the fact it has now magically disappeared. Here’s a tip. Most spells cast can only be uncast by the same witch that cast it in the first place. “

I felt dread hit my stomach , I knew danger was bound to come. But now she was saying it was so close , it all felt a little too real now. ” Sianna feels you could be onto something. She thinks the witches to tell Violet and Rion about the warlocks could well have been the warlocks themselves. As well as the one to tell them to call for her. There is a reason someone wanted her and Rion to meet , for them to make them mate. She thinks it would make sense that whoever it was had to put in the leg work and mind power to set all this up , But, the why she can’t figure out if they have done all they have done there powerful. So why would they come for her magic ? “I spoke about her thoughts to them.

” If they are here. How the f**k do we know who they are ? There are no twins here ” Enzo commented. ” Maybe they aren’t out in the open for us to see them, ” I answered. Shira nodded ” Who knows of their abilities? Female warlocks are normally weaker , lower in power. Like the diary of Rion said. But who says that is true? We have seen their magic that isn’t of someone weak. It also said females had been getting stronger, right ? What if they could look like another and could eat meals with us every night, and we never knew who they were “, Shira added. We needed to make sure this was what was actually happening here , this could all be a ruse, so we went in the wrong direction.
