“We need to replace places for them all to sleep ” I said , looking around. They all looked devastated. ” We have empty cabins , we had some families leave. Plus the new ones we have been building on the west side of the packland ” The alpha spoke. The Luna was making them all warm drinks. Bringing them blankets , they had all lived on such a warm island for so long. This climate was freezing for them. Even though it was quite warm here , with cooler nights.

” So what now we are all here? Can’t she just follow us here ?” said my brother Peter. Enzo rubbed the back of his neck and sighed. He looked stressed out. ” Why don’t we get all these people situated first? They have been through enough for tonight. Also, what are we doing with the living creepy corpse things? ” The alpha pointed at them all laid out along the grass. ” Yea , lets move everyone first. After her last show of strength, I don’t think she will make another so soon. We have a little time. As for the zombie things , we could put them in the deep cells.” Enzo instructs Peter and Samuel , and Devon . They get to work on rounding up warriors to help them. I watched as Violet’s eyes tracked Devon. Those two had a lot to talk about. Given the current circumstances of their mating being fake, then not fake , and imposters in others’ bodies as well as brain mangling. Them being excited about mating probably just didn’t feel right. I can imagine there is a lot of distrust or confusion between them right now. Their mating marks were already in place. So , maybe the rush just wasn’t there.

Enzo starts ordering warriors around as they start turning up. “What are the deep cells ? “Shira comes to my side and asks me. I watch as they start picking them up. I couldn’t help but feel bad for them all , they’ve been trapped like this for years and now they were magic less too. What would they want if this had never happened ? Would they be the same as Yianna ? Evil and sadistic , non-caring. Power hungry , or was that just reserved for the twins ? They sounded messed up because of how their father treated them growing up.

” It’s cells reserved for rogues and the bad of the bad. Theyre deep underground. And heavily guarded , they were also made for no offense but witches or other magical beings. Dug so deep, other witches couldn’t do magic to replace them. Steel so thick they couldn’t penetrate it with their own magic either. They had it tested as well, trust me when I say the previous alphas of this pack have always had a lot of trust issues when it comes to people not of our kind . Ironic that they had to get witches and such to test them”. I smiled sadly at her.

She looked at me funny. ” They got other paranormal to test cells if they would hold them ?” I nodded and she looked more confused. ” From what I heard they got offered a lot of money to do so ” she nodded like that made sense. The pack may not really rely on materialistic things, us doing all our stuff ourselves. But the alphas made sure the pack earned money in other ways. I didn’t get into the politics of the how , but obviously we needed technology and other things only money could buy. I had never really been interested in how we made money. I had just heard the pack was very wealthy.

” Anthea ” the Luna called my name, she was standing behind us looking unsure of herself for the first time ever. She asked if she could speak to me, so I, of course, told her yes. I walked away from Shira to her and she motioned for me to walk with her away from the crowd. When we were far enough away she smiled at me. ” I know there is a lot to do here , and I don’t want to over step any boundaries. You’re the next Luna and the people will be looking at you for your actions now. I wish to help you with navigating all of this. But right now , I think there is somewhere else you need to be. We have all of this covered , you’ll be fine to slip away for an hour. I will make sure we don’t discuss anything without you present. But your father ” her voice trails off.

I felt my heart stutter if the Luna wished to pull me away right now. It must not be good. She lets out a breath. ” He still won’t see your mother. His wolf is hardly hanging on. We sense it less each day. It is like he is giving up , in the only way he knows how. By having his wolf leave him. I fear he may not have much time left. He is so weak. Your mother sleeps outside the pack house in her wolf form. She hasn’t shifted back to human or moved in days. I feel you need to go and see him , or her. You do not need to forgive them , but I know with a heart as pure as yours. If this is how they end , you will never forgive yourself. Especially because your father is refusing your mother for the way she treats you . And his guilt for how he had stood by and let all of this happen for years” I was nodding before she finished.

I did not wish my father to punish himself. Yea, he could have been a better father , stood up for me. But I do not hate him , and I definitely do not wish him to die for it. I look around at all the bustling bodies now. I found Enzo in the crowd and mind linked him. ” I will be at the pack house “, I started to explain. But he cut me off. ” Go baby, I have all of this covered, I can free Samuel and Peter if you wish them to go with you.” I looked towards my brothers. I could really use their emotional support. If mum was down there, then I had no choice but to walk past her. But I felt this kind of thing had to be something I did on my own as well. ” No you need them here , I will be back soon. ” He nods ” I will bring the meeting to the pack house once we have all of these people sorted and protected. Dad says there could still be some rebellions in the pack ” I nodded and looked back at his mum. I went to smile at her and thank her but she pulled me into a hug. At first I was shocked . Then I felt my hands slowly circle her and for the first time in my life I felt like I was having a real mum hug.

” I’m glad you’re all back home , family is all you need to get you through things like this. We will all do this together, Anthea ” she whispered. I felt my eyes start to tear up. She released me , and I couldn’t really look her in the face. I felt so many emotions at that moment that i didn’t know how to process them. I felt her hand go under my chin and made me look at her. ” I knew my son’s mate would be someone special, but the fates out did themselves, blessing him with you. I still have yet to kick his a*s for how he first treated you. I am so happy you made him come to his senses , it would have always taken a strong woman to match him. ” I lost my battle with the tears. She smiled and moved her hand to run her thumb over my cheek and wipe the wet streak away. ” Go make your dad stop being stubborn “, I laughed and she did too.

” Thank you Luna ” I whispered. Her brows knitted together ” No Luna talk , were mom and dad to you. Now go shoo ” she stepped back, motioning me away with her hands. I caught Enzo watching us with an odd expression. Until someone called his name. Turning, I ran down to the pack house. When pack members saw me , I noticed some bowed their heads and others watched me with curiosity. But I had my parents to save. So I kept running. When I reached near the pack house I was heading for the steps when a wolf stepped in my way. I recognized the wolf straight away. It was my mum. I slowed to a halt and we stood watching one another. She wasn’t growling or anything , just stood watching me.

It was awkward. I didn’t really have anything to say to her and she wasn’t turning back to talk to me either. The door behind her opened and Timothy walked out with his head down and he looked sad. He looked broken , and for a second I thought maybe I was too late. When he looked up and saw me standing there, a wash of relief passed over his face. ” Anthea ” he gushed. ” Thank the moongodess for your back. You need to talk to him. ” He came walking down the steps towards me and stopped near mum. He cast her a look of displeasure , which told me he wasn’t exactly on the best of terms with her either. With my wolf hearing, I heard someone start coughing , it sounded hollow and shaky. Mum’s Wolf looked up at the house and whined. ” Come on Anthea “, he gestured with his hand. So I rushed forwards. When I passed the wolf it made no move to block me, it just sat there.

I paid no attention and ran up the steps and into the house , following Timothy. He ran up the steps and dashed into one of the bedrooms. When i walked in , my hand flew to my mouth in shock. Dad was lying on the bed , looking thin and frail. His hair looked limp and dull , his skin gray and dewy. Across his stomach were gash wounds that didn’t look to be even trying to heal. And wires pumping liquids were going in to both arms. My dad, who I had always seen as so strong, looked unrecognisable. Slowly stepping closer , his eyes were closed. ” Dad ” I whispered. His eyes flickered , it took time, but then his eyes slowly opened and looked at me unfocused. ” Ani ? “he asked croakily on a whipser. A sob escaped me and I rushed to his side. It was obvious they had down played how bad it was while we were away. I knelt by the side of the bed and grabbed his hand as he started coughing again. Spittle fell out of his mouth and my heart broke when I saw b***d coming out with it. ” Daddy ” I sobbed. I took his hand to my cheek and held it there with my eyes closed. I heard the door open behind me and sensed my other two brothers had come after all. I heard their intake of breaths as well , even though Samuel had seen him. I’m guessing he looks a lot worse now than when he left. ” Ani ” he whispered again , so I looked up to see that he was smiling or trying to smile at me.
