” What do you mean that wasn’t Devon ?” I asked and Anthea shook her head. ” We need to go ” she clapped her hands together again and as soon as we got back , we were surrounded by everyone back at the pack. And Devon , he was standing in front of me. ” What the f**k is going on ? ” I asked Anthea. She was pacing back and forth. “We had to distract her while I went and got Sianna’s magic ” she said, as that settled everything. She looked me up and down , and the next thing I knew I was wearing shorts.

” She will figure it out soon , she said she wanted me to get the magic. What does that mean ? “she asked Firya. Firya shook her head. It was like chaso here. No one else seemed bothered that Yianna’s sister was standing there. I mean, I think I pretty much figured out it wasn’t her by now. Looking around, the only people I didn’t see were Shira and Rion.

” Wait , let me catch up here. So Rion has shape shifted into Devon ? I asked and a round of nods happened. ” And I guess that’s Shira ” I pointed to Firya, and Firya nodded. ” And they did all of that to distract Yianna. Where has Rykan gone though ? ” Antheas’ eyes widened. And so did Firya’s. ” s**t, we left him back there ” Firya commented. ” I think I can open a portal or something for him to get back through. Sianna says it’s possible “. She rushes out. She turns her body away from us and raises her hands up towards the sky.

I watched in amazement as the sky became blurry in a huge circle. It took time, but the picture became clear through it. The sun beamed through the heat of the island shining down. ” RYKAN ITS SAFE ” Anthea shouted loudly. Seconds later, the large head of the dragon , followed by its huge wings and body came flapping through the large circle . The wolves standing in the opening all gawked in amazement. ” Wow ” Abigail gleamed , even though she had been with us at the castle it was still an amazing thing to witness. Even my dad looked in awe as he looked up and watched the huge thing circle our heads. Once his whole body was through Anthea dropped her hands. And the huge opening closed up .

” Move out, let him land ” Willow shouted. Everyone scattered back. I pulled Anthea to my chest as we all watched him hit the ground, then the big beast turned back into Rykan. ” Sorry we left you there , we had to move quickly ” Anthea apologised. Rykan smiled at her. ” It’s fine , I was about to fly back here above the cloud banks and hoping no one would see me. Imagine explaining that one to humans ” he laughed.

” I need to get out of this body , she’s weakening. If she dies, I die here too “, Shira said. ” What about Rion ? “Violet asked, panicked. Anthea moved to her and pulled her into a hug. ” We will get him back, I promise ” she whispered , but she didn’t sound so sure. I wasn’t either if that psycho figures out it isn’t Devon who knows what she will do in anger. Unfortunately, we learned what she would do a while later. Anthea and Shira had removed her from Firya’s body and put her back in her own that had been kept safe in the deep cells with the rest. It was when we were heading back up to the pack house to discuss how to get Rion back when one of the warriors came running at us , with a limp body in his arms.

It was covered in b***d and hardly recognisable. From here I could hear the faintest of heartbeats. A lot of them had gone back to the pack house , only me , Anthea , Shira and my dad had gone down to release Shira. Anthea had been pleading her case to release all of the entombed females of the spell while she still had the magic to do it. She said after what Yianna had done towards them , they would most likely join us. And without their magic, they weren’t a threat. Their bodies were weakening , now that they were human, and magic wasn’t sustaining their lives. They needed human things , water and food. Call me an a*****e, but I would be happy to let them die off , but we agreed to take it to the rest and see what their opinions were.

Just as we resurfaced above ground that was when we saw the warrior. ” What happened ? “I demaned I hadn’t even recognised it was Rion at first there was so much b***d , it masked his scent all I could smell was copper. ” I was patrolling the north border , and he just appeared. I smelt the b***d behind me where i had just come from. There had been nothing there before, then when I went back he was lying there ” I got closer and that was when I saw who it was.

Anthea was looking at the body like she might throw up. ” It’s Rion ” I said. She shot forward to see him better and her hand flew to her mouth. On closer inspection , it looked like he had been clawed everywhere. But by what ? Yianna was just a warlock. ” Are they claw marks ? “I asked out loud. My dad sucked in a breath ” looks like claw marks or the marks off of a whip , one that was weiled with no precise location , just to cause as much pain as possible. Look at the tears on the skin. There is none fixed solely together , like a claw would do “. He was right, there wasn’t.

” How f*****g sick is she ? ” Anthea gasped , her eyes filling up with tears . ” Get him to the hospital now , tell the docs to do everything they can. Around the clock “, I ordered the warrior. He shot off with him. And that was when Shira growled. ” She dropped him on the edge of the land. Why ? ” she asked us all. It was my dad who cottoned on the quickest. ” So we would all go there. And leave something vulnerable or unprotected . She didn’t count on the warriors on parole scenting him and bringing him to us. “

” Her sister ? “Anthea threw it out , but I wasn’t so sure. She gave no f***s about her. ” Maybe Devon ? “I said, but my father shook his head. ” He would have come with us. “True , he would have. ” Maybe it was just so he would be dead before we found him ” I mused. ” No it would be something that would get my attention to give her what she wants , she has read your mind Enzo. She will have seen where my parents are . My brothers would have come with us to the edge of the pack lands too. s**t it’s my parents ” she shouted and took off at a sprint.

Anthea being stronger now made it that she could nearly out run me , but I managed to keep up. We got there before my father and Shira. Anthea burst into the house and ran for the stairs. ” What’s wrong ? ” Peter asked , following us up. He must have seen us coming. He was asked to guard the house along with the warriors and Antheas’ other brothers. ” Rion was dumped barley alive on the edge of the land. He was taken to the hospital. We think it was a diversion ” I shouted over my shoulder as I continued to follow Antheas’ tail.

She burst the door open and the bed was empty where her father had been laid. Her mother wasn’t in the room either. Anthea froze , looking at the empty bed. ” Timothy was up here too “, Peter revealed, and I saw Antheas’ shoulders tense. I felt her devastation through our link, like she was already mourning their deaths. I didn’t blame her after what Yianna had just dropped Rion in here looking like. It would be easy to assume that is was their fate too. ” Anthea, she needs them , that’s her bargaining chip. That is why she said she needed you to get the magic. She knew she couldn’t access it when she read my mind. She won’t kill them, she needs them alive ” . I thought when she looked at me she would be crying , in pain. But she looked furious.

” Does she need them all alive though? She is taking people around me that I love. You saw Rion , what if Timothy gets dropped in here looking like that , or my mum or dad? Dad is already weak , he won’t survive that. She keeps getting into my pack so easily. She won’t again. If she comes here I’ll rip her f*****g heart out ” she spits. It was the first time I had ever seen Anthea acting on our basic instincts as a wolf , and giving into the animalistic anger that rides us hard. ” Anthea , the moon goddess, said you can’t keep the magic. Send it back to her now and then there is nothing for her to keep coming for “, Shira said after she had finally caught up. ” Then there’ll be nothing to keep my family alive for either . The magic stays until she’s dead ” she said with finality.
