Return of the Prodigy Chapter 132
What does he mean by that?
Adam was stunned when he heard this news. He asked with a frown, "What happened?"
Black Dragon replied, somewhat annoyed, "Priscilla went to all the martial arts centers in the city and turned them upside down. Among them, two were secret bases of our Black Snake Brigade." Adam was at a loss for words. All these guys seem to have lost their minds after staying away from society for too long. This girl isn't any better than Owen Robinson, the guy with the hero complex. Priscilla was an attractive girl, yet she had none of the poise that a beauty should. She was lawless and did not hesitate to turn upside down even their secret bases.
"Did the people of our Black Snake Brigade intervene?" asked Adam.
Black Dragon replied, embarrassed, "They did, but they were all defeated."
Adam was at a loss for words, again.
No wonder Black Dragon seems so upset. However, this is pretty normal. The Black Snake Brigade might be in charge of managing the underworld, but it's not like every member is a skilled fighter. Adam asked helplessly, "Is that all?"
Black Dragon replied, "No, it doesn't end here. Despite turning every martial arts center upside down, Priscilla didn't replace the person she was looking for. Therefore, she changed her approach. She now wants to hold a competition, and the winner will get to marry her. The location where the competition will take place is Sky High Venue, one of our secret bases.
"The event will last a month, and she'll be at the venue every day. Anyone under 35 can participate, and she'll marry them as long as they can defeat her. Needless to say, the local mixed martial arts circle has gone into an uproar." Adam was at a loss for words, for the third time.
This matter is getting out of hand. I can't believe she's now holding this kind of competition. However, I have to admit she does have the looks; there's hardly any man that won't be impressed by her face.
Nonetheless, isn't she afraid that she might meet someone who's strong enough to defeat her?
"I see. I'll go take a look in a while," said Adam.
After hanging up, he looked at the girl from the Medicis. Compared to Owen Robinson and Priscilla Rain, she was almost normal.
Since the young man was no longer in danger, Adam did not linger and returned to Area 2, heading toward the bottom of the cliff. He looked for the tree with the broken canopy and found Carl Mann's corpse under it. Carl's body was mangled, hardly recognizable, and his blood had splashed everywhere.
Adam sighed and gave Katie a call.
"I've found him at the bottom of the cliff in Area 2, dead. Tell the rescue team to come here and recover the body."
After a short moment, Adam added, "You'll have to prepare for the questions from the reporters."
It was unclear if Carl Mann had fallen off the cliff on his own, or if he was pushed down. Regardless, Hartley Group would have to take responsibility.
On the other end, Katie kept silent.
Twenty minutes later, the rescue team came over and gathered what was left of Carl Mann's body. Adam followed them back to Katie.
Katie sat in Adam's car, her expression unsightly. Before long, the reporters that had gotten wind of the engineer's disappearance rushed over and surrounded her.
"Ms. Hartley, we were notified that a senior member of your survey team went missing. Is that true?"
"Ms. Hartley, did you manage to replace the missing person? Will Hartley Group take responsibility for it?"
"Ms. Hartley..."
Questions rained down one after the other.
Katie took a deep breath in an attempt to suppress her panic. "Hartley Group will hold a press conference tomorrow to answer all the questions related to this matter." Then, she rolled up the car window and no longer answered any of the questions.
Adam pressed on the gas and drove away.
As the car sped away, Katie glanced at the blurred scenery of Phoenix Mountain outside, asking gingerly, "Adam, if you were in my shoes, how would you deal with this matter?"
Adam replied, "First, I would settle this matter privately with Carl Mann's family. Then, I'd explain things to the public and tell them that Hartley Group would see this matter to the end." Katie sighed and did not speak again.
The development of Plot No. 3 was very important for the company, and she could not allow any accidents.
After pondering for a short moment, Katie made up her mind and said, "I'll call my parents and tell them to pick up Annie. You and I will go to Carl Mann's house."
Adam asked with a frown, "Do you want to go now?"
If they went now, they would have to face the brunt of Carl Mann's family's anger.
Katie nodded. "Yes, let's go right away."
-
At this time, inside a luxurious villa in the capital.
Silas received the news, and a smug smile appeared on his face.
"Mario, the first step of my plan was a success. See, that bastard is not infallible."
Mario asked with a frown, "What do you plan to do next?"
Silas grinned and laid out his plan.
Mario listened and pouted in disdain. "I didn't expect you to be so ruthless. Still, like I said before, I'm not that interested in the Hartleys or their company. I just want that bastard to die." What Mario did not know was that his father was also paying attention to everything happening in Lisle...
Enrico Morales was in the courtyard of his manor in the capital, sitting in his reclining chair under the shade of a tree as he listened to Bloodseeker's report.
"El Coco, your guess turned out to be correct. Priscilla Rain has started challenging the martial arts centers in Lisle, and none of the personnel were her match. I guess it will be Adam Drake's turn soon."
Enrico said with a smile, "That's normal as there aren't many skilled fighters in a small city like Lisle. Adam is the leader of the Black Snake Brigade, and he'll have to take action if he doesn't want things to get out of control."
Bloodseeker said, "People from Lotus Sect, Divine Gate, and Swindlers' Guild are already there. Unless Adam Drake's identity is exposed, there will be a steady stream of people from such organizations rushing to Lisle. Even if he's in charge of the Black Snake Brigade, there is nothing he can do."
Enrico narrowed his eyes and said, "I'm curious to see what he'll do next. Will he take the initiative to expose his identity, or will he try to keep it hidden?"
"When are we going to attack him?" Bloodseeker asked.
Enrico pondered for a short while and said, "It's not time yet. Lisle is not chaotic enough."
Bloodseeker nodded. "How should we deal with the Hamiltons?"
Enrico seemed to have mulled over this question countless times. Without the slightest hesitation, he said, "Andrew Hamilton might be the richest man in Alameda County and the President of the Chamber of Commerce, but he doesn't run the chamber alone. There are five other council members who can remove him from his position if they join forces.
"Profit trumps friendship. I have invited them for a drink, and I think they'll be interested in my offer."
Bloodseeker hesitated for a short while before saying, "El Coco, the progress has slowed down a lot since the accident. The higher-ups are upset."
Enrico's face fell, and a cold gleam flashed in his eyes. "Hmph, they better not go overboard. If it weren't for us..."
In the next moment, his anger vanished.
Enrico closed his eyes and said helplessly, "Start making preparations."
