Sophie caught the meaning behind Elodie's words and responded with a touch of sarcasm, "Ms. Elodie, you must be joking. Odie runs this town in Summerfield, and with the Minton family behind me, who would dare mess with me?"

"Who knows? There's always a bigger fish. Maybe Odie isn't the top dog of Summerfield after all?"

With that, Elodie stood up and said, "I've said my piece. This time, Griffin made a move against you, and I was in the wrong first. So, I'm not hesitating any longer. Here are the shares, handed over personally. From now on, we owe each other nothing. In Devonport, let's compete fair and square." Elodie then turned and left with her two bodyguards.

Sophie lowered her head, picking up the share transfer agreement. She had an inkling of why Elodie had come, but she didn't expect her to remain calm about Griffin getting hurt.

In a way, Elodie was a morally respectable opponent.

But then again...

Their moral compasses weren't exactly pointing due north.

"Ms. Sophie, are we heading back?" one of her bodyguards asked.

Sophie glanced back at her two enforcers, noticing them trembling, likely scared of the muscle-bound guys from earlier.

Sure, they were enforcers, but they couldn't handle those hulking men!

"Let's go," Sophie said, standing up. The two bodyguards quickly escorted her to the car.

Just as Sophie was about to get in, she noticed a dark figure in the distance and frowned. One of the bodyguards asked, "Ms. Sophie, aren't you getting in?" "Check the car," Sophie ordered suddenly, catching them off guard.

"Check the car?"

"Now."

"Oh, right!"

Baffled by her sudden demand, they still proceeded to inspect the car as instructed.

"Ms. Sophie! The car's brake lines have been cut!"

"Ms. Sophie! The fuel tank's leaking, and there's a lighter on top of it!"

Sophie's frown deepened.

If it were just the brake lines, it wouldn't be too big a deal. But a lighter on a leaking fuel tank? The car was rigged to explode!

Who would be so ruthless?

Sophie couldn't help but think back to Elodie's words. Could Elodie know something already? "Call Odie, get him to come here himself!"

In this situation, even taking a taxi might not be safe. If someone knew she was at the airport, they certainly knew about her deal with Elodie involving the Burke family shares.

Who didn't want her to get that share transfer document for Burke International?

One of the bodyguards had already called Odie. When he hung up, Sophie asked, "What did Odie say? Is he coming?" "The boss didn't say much, just told us to stand by and wait."

"And then?"

"Then he hung up..."

Sophie sighed, "Fine, we'll wait."

Fifteen minutes later, Sophie heard

the

an engine. A red sports

car pulled up in front of her, followed

by two vans.

Odie got out first and went straight to inspect the tampered car.

Sophie said, "No need to look anymore. Your car can still be fixed with some repairs."
