Salute To The General -
Chapter 1996
Chapter 1996
What?Is it that bad?
It seemed that this Mr. Cross held quite an important position at the Headquarters of the Chief Military Governor.
Freddy had started to pick up that something was off.
"Yes. yes, of course. I understand."
"You better!" warned Sage.
And with that, Sage hung up the phone.
After the phone call ended, Freddy's stuck-up, egoistical behavior was gone, a sniveling, pathetic smile taking its place.
Under everyone else's shocked stares, he held the phone in both hands as he gave it back to Nathan, bowing profusely. "Um, Mr. Cross... I am terribly sorry. I was mistaken."
"Oh?" Nathan raised an eyebrow. "What were you mistaken about?"
"I... This wine is not from the Headquarters of the Chief Military Governor. It is a knock-off. I humbly apologize to you, Mr. Cross, as well as everyone else present," Freddy simpered.
Jaeden and the rest of his classmates erupted into chaos.
In their eyes, Freddy had an ego so large that even if the wine was fake, he would never admit it to anyone else let alone publicly apologize for his mistake.
Plus, Freddy had a reputation to uphold. He would never serve cheap, imitation wine on
purpose.
So why was he suddenly letting go of his ego and asking Nathan for his forgiveness?
In the blink of an eye, everyone else started to see Nathan in a different light.
"The wine tastes alright, but it's a little lacking compared to the real thing," Nathan commented. "If I'm guessing correctly, the batch of wine this bottle is from must have been below standard.
"The winery did not destroy this batch of subpar alcohol, but instead chose to privately give it up for sale, and that's how you ended up getting it." Freddy's eyes widened in realization as he slapped his forehead over and over again. "I knew that there was something fishy when Clinton agreed to sell me the batch of wine so easily! He's usually so petty! Of course, the wine couldn't have been from the Headquarters of the Chief Military Governor!"
Swallowing the lump in his throat, Freddy's heart skipped a beat as he looked at Nathan cautiously. "Mr. Cross, what exactly do you do in the Headquarters of the Chief Military Governor?"
Headquarters of the Chief Military Governor?
Everyone else's eyes were nearly bulging out of their heads at this new piece of information. Does Nathan work at the Headquarters of the Chief Military Governor?
They all whipped around to face Jaeden as if silently asking him, "Didn'tyou say he was a security guard from Channing?", but Jaeden didn't have a single clue as to what was happening either.
"Do you think my position is one that
can be revealed so easily to an
Pel
outsider like you?" Nathan stated emotionlessly. "Didn't you know that everything related to the Chief Military Governor has to do with the military? Are you trying to uncover military secrets on purpose?"
Freddy jumped out of his skin, shaking his head timidly.
The disdain in everyone's gazes from before had completely disappeared, replaced by respect and admiration.
Nathan went on to scold Freddy, "Besides, no matter what department or position we hold, we are all working to serve our country. You better keep that in mind.
"If I replace out that you're continuing to abuse your power and bully your subordinates and the public, then I will come for you. Understand?"
Freddy nodded frantically, his voice trembling as he squeaked out, "Yes, yes. I know. I will never dare to do it again.”
After the unpleasant occurrence, Nathan decided not to stay for drinks anymore, standing up from his chair and leaving the room.
The moment Nathan stepped out of the private room, Freddy wet his pants out of sheer relief.
His face immediately became beet red. Fortunately for him, no one noticed the sour, slightly acidic smell that suddenly permeated the air. "Just who is Mr. Cross exactly?" lamented Jaeden.
Freddy hauled himself back onto his chair, using the tablecloth and napkin to cover the unsightly mess that he was in.
From the way that Sage held the utmost respect for Nathan, as well as the way Sage had threatened that "your days are numbered if you don't apologize to Nathan", Freddy had come to the conclusion that Nathan was actually the Chief Military Governor himself.

He had just chosen to keep his mouth shut and pretended that he didn't know.
A sigh of relief escaped Freddy's mouth as soon as Nathan left the room.
Still reeling from the shock of the incident that had just occurred, he internally thanked every god and deity in existence for helping him barely escape by the skin of his teeth He would most likely be dead right now if the Chief Military Governor hadn't decided to let him off the hook so easily.
