Second Chance Mates -
T H R E E
A couple of days had passed. The news had travelled all around the pack, many were disappointed in Fiona and Frank, but accepted it and moved on. Some were not at all happy, petitioning for them both to be punished.
They were currently being kept apart anyway, which would be painful for a newly mated pair, but it was done to make sure I wouldn’t get any residual soul pain.
Fiona had tried to visit me today, however my mum had made it clear that I wouldn’t welcome her and she shouldn’t want to hurt me any further than she already had.
She was not sorry in the least of what she put me through, as I heard her shout she loved him first and I had gotten in the way of her happiness. They were better suited together due to age, circle of friends and their interests. She also had the nerve to tell our mum she was the prettier one and that Frank would never replace me attractive.
This just cemented in me she was a selfish bitch, only interested in herself. I had been thinking about what I could do now. Only a week back in my home pack and everything was upside down.
I hadn’t discussed it with my parents or brother yet, but I was going to move to my cousin’s pack. My mum’s brother was the retired Alpha there. We would regularly visit when we were younger, but as we got older, we only visited once a year.
The Clyde Crimson Moon Pack was run similar to Lothian and were allies, I would still be able to use my knowledge and interests to help the pack. I had been texting my cousin explaining what had happened and he was happy to take me in. I’m sure my parents would be happy to know I was going to be with family. All I had to do was run the transfer through the Alpha and I would be able to move on with my life.
First thing on Monday, I made my way to the Alpha’s office, sitting down with him and the Luna.
“Elsie it is nice to see you up and about, we are so sorry about what happened to you. We are disappointed in them both,” the Luna shared, holding my hand.
“Thank you, but you do not need to apologise,” smiling at her. “As you can guess, I cannot stay here indefinitely, to see them going about their lives with no care in the world. Although the doctor tells me I shouldn’t feel any more soul pain, it will still hurt emotionally, to see them.”
They both nod, waiting for me to continue.
“I have decided I want to transfer to my cousin’s pack, the Clyde Crimson Moon Pack. I’ve already spoken with him and he is happy to accept and support me there. As we are family and the packs allies, I assume this will cause no issues. Just the usual paperwork.”
The Alpha smiles as me. “There is no problem with this request, your parents had already shared that they thought this is what you would do. It will take a few weeks to get the paperwork through, approved by both us and Alpha Hamish, then registered with the council. I will try my best to push it through as fast as I can,” he explains.
“Thank You Alpha, Luna,” I reply dipping my head and standing up.
I leave the packhouse and take a deep breath, I feel the weight of the world life from me. This last week has been the worse in my life, but I know where I am going and moving forward with my life, leaving those that hurt me behind. All I have to do now, is tell me parents.

It took a little over two weeks to get everything official for my transfer. I had seen ‘those two’ a couple of times walking about the pack hand in hand, not a care in the world or that they hurt me as much as they did.
Some of the pack, mostly their circle of friends were matter of fact, telling others I should just get over it, some would not speak with them. I didn’t care either way, I now considered myself lucky to get away from such a match.
Iris had begun to come out of her hiding place, getting back to her usual self. The knowledge that we would be leaving this place soon helped. She was hopeful that we would replace a second change mate as it wasn’t my fault that I was rejected. I wasn’t holding my breath, maybe I could choose a mate for myself, one that had maybe lost there’s or had also been rejected. But that wasn’t my focus, moving pack and getting settled was.
I was looking forward to seeing my cousins and family, it had been a while. They were excited to see me and my help was greatly needed. Since my cousin took over from his father, their accounts had been paper based and needed overhauled to digital, which was taking a long time. I liked a challenge and getting my new pack more digital, would help them in the long run. I would have to bide my time for a place on the council, I was too fresh faced and needed experience, but I was ok with that.

My stuff had been boxed and sent ahead, all I needed to do was jump in the car with my parents, who were driving me to the other coast, a couple of hours away. My brother had come over earlier with his family to say their goodbyes, promising to visit when they could.
I put my bag in the car, before looking back at my family home. It would be a long time before I would be back here. Just then I heard Fiona’s voice, I felt my teeth grinding together. She walked up the path heading straight towards me. Frank was keeping his distance, staying at the bottom of the driveway.
“Elsie, I just wanted to say goodbye and all the best,” her high-pitched voice annoying my ears. This was the first time I had been face to face with her since everything happened. I spun round glaring at her.
Not missing her stride, she continued, “it’s for the best, we can both get on with our lives without this,” flapping her hand around, “stuff going on. Everyone can stop talking about it, making us uncomfortable.”
Iris growled in my mind, she might be coming over as aloof, but all the gossiping has made Fiona uncomfortable. Including their punishments; Fiona had been fined by the Alpha, for her part in what happened, paying out 10% of her profit every month for six months and Frank had been put on extra guard duties and patrols, especially at awkward times, like overnight.
I just looked at Fiona with disgust. “Are you not going to say anything Elsie?” She had the audacity to ask me.
I raised my hand and slapped her hard across the face with a loud snap. Causing her to gasp and step back holding her cheek. Out the corner of my eye I saw Frank’s eyes widen.
I walked away from her and got in the car. Mum opened the window tell Fiona to go home and she would see her in a week once they returned.
I didn’t look back as my dad drove down the road, they were no longer part of my life.
