Sinful Doctor: Chapter 2
I didn’t sleep last night.
The thought that Sloane, who had consumed me whole for the last six years, had been unfaithful made me sick to my stomach.
I’m currently crashed out on Taylor’s sofa, because of course the apartment we lived in was his. Well, it was his dad’s, but his dad lives in LA.
He and his mum have some strange arrangement. Married but don’t sleep together.
Never got it myself.
But it worked for them.
My parents? Never knew my dad. Mum was present, but she was more consumed with her love life then being mum of the year.
There have been a few that have stuck, but only one I can really say was good for her and that was George.
But like every one of mum’s partners, he left. They always did. George married my mum, the only one who managed to get her to settle down. But in the end he wanted more, mum didn’t, so he moved away to take a new fancy job. Never did see him again.
Sighing, I twist in my seat and look around me.
I would love to own my own place.
Sloane had money, his family had money; me, I had nothing. Sloane had an older brother, Sebastian. I only met him a few times, he was ten years older than Sloane, twelve years older than me, but he was a hotshot doctor. They were all real proud of him. So yeah, his family had money.
I work hard, get paid pittance. I love my job though, working in a coffee shop, a florist and a book shop?!
The dream.
That’s how I met the girls.
Sinful Reads book club.
My chest weighs heavy and suddenly I replace myself gasping for breath. Sitting upright, I reach for my water off the coffee table and drink a large mouthful.
Heart is racing. Palms are sweaty.
Placing it back down on the coaster, the sound of a door opening has me turning my head. Taylor emerges, wild hair, hazy eyes, huge smile with one of her twin boyfriends, clinging onto her like she is his lifeline. I still couldn’t tell them apart.
I rub the ache from my chest.
“Hey babe,” her high and playful tone dances its way over to me.
“Oh, hey, morning,” I stand quickly and awkwardly, tucking my auburn hair behind my ear and dropping my eyes to the floor.
“Morning,” one of the twins greets me as the other appears at the door flustered and a boyish grin spread across his face.
“Thanks for letting me stay last night, just after everything…” I trail off when I hear footsteps closing in.
Taylor’s hand is on my arm, head tilted to the side as she gives me a sad look.
“You can stay for as long as you want, I’ll be crashing at the guys’ place tonight anyway so the place is yours.”
“You may just want to stay out of this room,” one of them laughs, tongue in cheek.
“Theo!” Taylor’s cheeks blaze a crimson.
And I roll my lips to hide my smile.
“Honestly, I’ll crash in a hotel.”
Not that I can afford it.
“You will not. Stay here; we have book club tomorrow night then we can have a takeaway.”
I nod just as she rolls her eyes. Theo, I think, is wrapping his arms around her again and dropping his lips to her neck.
“We have work, so you’ll be here alone, what time is your appointment?” she asks half listening, half distracted by the god that is placing kisses along her pulse point.
I hear a cough behind me and see—I am assuming—Lucas, getting jealous that he is making coffee whilst his brother is having all the fun.
“Ten,” I quickly rush out and swipe my phone from the table. “Okay to use the bathroom?”
Taylor points down the narrow hallway as Lucas hands me a cup of coffee before stalking towards his girl.
Their girl.
Slamming the bathroom door behind me, I place my coffee and phone down and burst into tears.
Once I had showered, cried, brushed my teeth and cried some more, I walked out of Taylor’s apartment a little more composed than I was an hour ago. I had a small window before my appointment, so I grabbed myself a coffee and a croissant.
I couldn’t believe what Sloane had done.
Cheated on me, over and over.
Dipped his dick into too many vaginas and then come back for mine? The thought made my skin crawl and feel physically sick to my stomach.
Shaking my head, I dump my coffee and my croissant; suddenly I had lost my appetite.
Walking cautiously up to the posh townhouse, my nerves are crippling me. What if he had in fact passed something on?
What if he had in fact given me something months ago and it’s laid undetected until now?
With a trembling hand, I push the buzzer for Dr Morgan’s office.
“Yes?” the young female voice floats through the intercom.
“I have an appointment at ten a.m.,” I glance at my watch, it’s five to.
“Come in,” I hear the sound of the phone hitting the cradle before the door buzzes. I push through and take in the lavish hallway, decorated with high taste and extremely beautiful. Shrugging off my coat as I walk down the marble floored corridor my heart is banging deep inside my chest.
Turning to the left once I reach the end, I step in a pristine but cosy waiting room. The young receptionist gives me a soft nod and hands me a clipboard and pen.
Sitting carefully, I eye the room. It’s quiet, warm, and inviting.
Nothing like my old gynaecologists.
Casting my eyes down, I fill in the new patient form and hand it back to the receptionist before taking my seat again.
I’m slipping my hand into my bag to reach for my phone when an older lady stands in the waiting room.
“Harper?” she smiles towards me and I nod, standing flustered as I grab my bag and coat and walk towards her.
Stepping into the doctor’s office, I scope the room.
“Take a seat,” she holds her hand out and I do as she asks. I sit down. My throat feels thick and my heart is definitely in my throat.
“What are you here for?”
“A full health check…” I stammer, swallowing to try and coat my dry mouth.
“Sexual?” she tilts her head and I nod sheepishly. “Here, I’ll take that for you,” she slips the clipboard from my clammy grip and I give a weak smile. “The doctor will be in shortly.”
And my brows pinch, from the way she was dressed I assumed she was Dr Morgan.
“Okay,” I squeak out then clear my throat.
“Would you like some water?” she asks, clipboard hugged into her chest and I nod.
She disappears but is back within seconds with a glass of ice water and wedge of lemon.
Fancy.
I’m alone again as I take a mouthful of my drink and tap my foot on the tiled floor.
I opted for a skirt and tee with trainers. Thought it may be easier that I can lift the skirt around my waist and keep some of my dignity.
The door goes and my eyes widen to see the same female walk through.
“Can you lay on the bed, bottom half off.”
I nod, placing my water on the small table beside me and begin to walk. Sitting on the edge of the bed, I lift my skirt over my hips and let it sit around my waist. Thumbing my panties down, I shimmy out of them and scrunch them up, keeping them in my closed fist.
I lay down gently and she places a small piece of tissue over me, covering me up even though I still feel completely bare.
She smiles at me softly, then disappears out of the room again.
What the fuck.
I’m tucked behind a curtain and the seconds feel like hours before I hear the office door open and close.
“Okay, Ms Evans…”
And I freeze just as the curtain is pulled back, eyes wide like saucers when I see Sebastian Davies standing there.
Sloane’s older brother.
