Single Mother: Struggling With The Dangerous CEO -
Chapter 44
Chapter 44
Sophia had been lazy for several days.
When she came to work on Monday, she slept at the bus station and was almost late.
After getting out of the bus and walking to the Evans's building entrance, Patrick's car stopped slowlyby the roadside, only a few meters away from Sophia.
The driver got out of the car and opened the door for him.
He took a few steps forward and saw her, his eyebrows slightly furrowed.
Sophia didn't understand his expression.
She greeted the president hurriedly and then walked inside. She didn’t know whether it was becauseher pace was too slow or because her pace was too fast.
He followed her, and there were people behind him as well.
When she went to take the elevator, she heard someone behind Patrick remind him, "Sir, the specialelevator is undergoing maintenance today”
Sophia thought, 'How could his exclusive elevator undergo maintenance today of all days?’
Sophia stood at the front of the elevator.
With a pinging sound, the elevator stopped.
It was unknown who pushed her behind, but she was the first one to enter the elevator.
And sadly, except for her, all the employees were waiting for the president to get in first.
Sophia blushed. She wanted to step out but was frightened by Patrick's expression and intimidated byhis tall figure.
After Patrick stepped inside the elevator, an employee said, "President Evans, you go up.First, we willwait for the next one."
Patrick did not stand on ceremony and pressed the button for the elevator to close.
Only Sophia and Patrick were in the elevator. It was so quiet that they could even hear each other'sbreathing.
He did not speak, nor did she.
After a long while, Patrick walked up to her and faced her.
Sophia was surprised by his actions and looked at him with wide eyes.
The corners of his lips lifted into a smile.
It was not much, but she noticed that it was not a sincere smile.
He raised an arm to her side, trapping her between his chest and the elevator wall.He was very tall, and she only reached his shoulder.
Because he was tall, she could only look up to him.
"Mr.Evans, we are almost on the top floor’ She reminded him to pay attention to where they were.Andthey were inside the company building.
"Well, it doesn't matter.Maybe the elevator will malfunction soon, and we will be trapped here.No onewill replace out" Patrick said nonchalantly.
As soon as he finished speaking, the elevator stopped running, and the light above his head also lostits light in the next second.
"Weren't you informed by the head of maintenance that there will be a blackout in the building today?"Sophia asked, almost in a panic.
Sophia could feel Patrick's breath fan her face. She thought that he had become somewhat differenttoday, but she couldn't tell exactly what the difference was.
"Sophia, back then in Australia, there was a time when we couldn't help ourselves in the small room ofour rented house.Do you still remember?" Patrick asked softly.
Sophia didn't answer. She didn't know if this topic was too taboo or if he was too close, but sheinexplicably felt that it was getting difficult to breathe.
"At that time, you fainted from the pain, and my entire body was left with traces of you. When you wokeup, you cried. You also asked me if you were my first woman.Could it be that you would be my lastwoman as well? Would I be responsible for marrying you in the future? How did I answer?" Patrickasked in quick succession.
"Why did you suddenly ask all of these things? It's been so long.Is there any meaning in bringing it upnow?"
Sophia deflected.
Sophia felt that she had finally adjusted her state of mind with great difficulty, and was once againmade numb and confused by him.
He was always like this, always giving her a fatal blow when she wanted to withdraw.
"Back then” I said, ‘You are my first and last.I will definitely marry you”
Is this right?" Patrick asked again.
He continued, "Whenever you had menstrual cramps, I had always massaged your lower abdomenand I always hugged you to sleep.Back then, you asked whether only you will be able to sleep in myarms in the future. How did I answer back then? In the rainy seasons, you almost always forget to bringan umbrella, so I always picked you up in the rain. You ran into my arms and asked me if you would bethe only woman whom I would send an umbrella to in the future. How did I answer back then? Whenour first child died, you cried and asked me if I would only want our child in the future. How did I answerback then?"
"Enough, what exactly do you want me to say?" Sophia interrupted him, her eyes filled with tears.
"What does it matter even if I can remember those? What will change? Can the damage that has beendone be undone?" Sophia asked Patrick.
"The answer is that it cannot be undone.Since nothing can be changed, why bother remembering?"Sophia asked emotionally.
Patrick did not stop because of this but he continued to speak.
"I said, I will only sleep with you in my arms in the future.Whether it is spring, summer, autumn, orwinter, I said that I would only hold an umbrella for you in the future. No matter where you are, I saidthat I will only want your child.I want my child to look like you"
Patrick continued to say.
Patrick was on a roll and did not stop.
Sophia revealed a wry smile.
"So, are you trying to show off how brilliant your words of love were back then?" Sophia askedincredulously.
He lowered his head and seemed to be a little closer to her.
In the darkness, she felt that his breath was a little ragged.
He was suppressing his feelings, and she heard the sound of his Adam's apple moving up and downas he swallowed a mouthful of his own saliva..
"Sophia, I only want to tell you how much I love you" Patrick confessed finally.
‘Absurd”
This was the only word that Sophia could think of in her chaotic mind.
Why was he suddenly like this? He used to be indifferent and noble, but now he kept a low profile, justlike a fragile child.
This was simply difficult to connect with the indifferent and noble man he usually was.
She thought self-deprecatingly, he didn't drink today, but he spoke like he was drunk.
She sneered, "What do you mean? Do you want me to be your lover, or do you want me to be yourmistress so you can enjoy flirting with different women at the same time?"
As she spoke, she felt a dull pain in her chest.
Something fell from her eyes. She raised her hand to wipe her cold face.
There were not many tears, but it was bitter tears. He frowned as if he had not expected her to cry.
His heart was also beating very fast. His long arm hooked through her waist, and his big palm touchedher back.
He pulled her close and held her tightly in front of his chest, he wanted everyone to know that Sophiabelonged to him.
"Why are you speaking in such a weird tone?" Patrick asked.
As if his mood was inexplicably good, his lips slowly slid to her ears and blew a breath of hot air, "If Iwanted approval from other people, I would not have waited until today to tell you."
Sophia put her hands in front of his chest and tried to push him away, but he exerted even more forceand easily restrained her.
Sophia thought that this was the difference in strength between men and women.
Just like how she consistently failed whenever she tried to forget him after so many years.
This thought made her angry and also helpless, she felt that she couldn't do anything to refuse him.
Perhaps it was because they were in an elevator and had limited space, so the touch was a hundredtimes sensitive.
Even through the clothes, she could feel the heat from his hand.It was very hot.
"So, what you meant to say is that you still love me? It was fake that you wanted to divorce me fiveyears ago.It was also fake that you asked me to abort the child. The pain and uneasiness I sufferedwere all fakes? Tell me, is that so?" Sophia asked.
This time a trace of panic was in her voice.
Her entire body was bound by him and she could not move. She could only raise her head andspeak. She was even a little hysterical towards the end of her sentence and could not continueanymore.
