Sold To The Demon Alpha -
Chapter 89
Roma’s POV
It had been hours of searching and we could neither replace Carlos or Aria.
The former clearly knew how to cover his tracks and even though we had found and locked up the person that helped him, he could not give us anything substantial about where Carlos might have gone.
The sentinel that I had put on my mate had only seen her last when she entered the mortuary to cremate her father and had been unable to see what happened after, as if someone had purposely left a distraction in form of a flat tyre in front of him.
Either ways, as I touched my bare neck, I wondered if I was being hysterical about Aria’s disappearance and if she had intentionally left Shadow plains. But her friend Nicole had not seen her since she left for the mortuary and since her phone was off, it was difficult to track her.
A part of me wondered if I did the right thing by giving her enough money to be able to start a new life if she wanted and it sounded immensely selfish.
Because Aria deserved the entire world.
It wasn’t her fault that she had the ill luck of falling for someone like me.
Tonight was another full moon and I knew that the Beast would escape without fail, damning me to have to be in chains when night fell and when I looked at the time, it was already past eight.
But there was something that felt hollow in me.
Something that told me that a terrible thing had happened.
I could almost taste the feel of death and I didn’t want to worry Raphael who was already tightening security but maybe it was already too late for that.
Because when Raphael called me, there was panic in his voice.
“They found us” That was all he said and then I heard screams over the phone before the call went dead.
Horrified, I rushed outside and I could smell the smoke even though I could not replace anything to state that there was a fire happening.
And that was when I heard them.
Hunters carrying torches.
We had been found.
And if that was the case, then Aria must be with them.
Reaching for my bare neck, a sinister part of me wondered if Aria had collaborated with them to bring ruin to my pack but then I remembered that it was not possible.
Aria Ajello was many things but she was very protective of those she loved. And even if she didn’t love me right now, she loved Scian. She loved Sophia. She was fond of Raphael to a point that it had made me jealous once.
She was not like that.
Rushing to sound the alarm that I had put in place in the event of something like this, I knew that the wolves that could not fight, the women and the children were already gathering themselves and running deeper into the forest to seek refuge like we had drilled all of them for.
I was at the entrance to the mansion when I saw Scian and her eyes widened in terror as she ran towards me.
“Please, keep all of them safe.” I said as I grabbed her shoulders, feeling headache hit me like an arrow to the head and remembering that the moon was fast approaching and would only make the Beast stronger.
Nodding with a strength that made me remember that for all that Scian was frail and now a healer, she had been a warrior once. One of the best in the pack.
Rest assured that she would see justice to the evacuation plans, I rushed out of the mansion, tearing down any hunters in my path as I prayed that Raphael and the other sentinels were safe.
As I walked out into the clearing beside the mansion, the growl that escaped my throat was unavoidable.
There were a lot of injured people. My people. My warriors.
Part of the mansion had been set on fire.
And emerging from the woods, holding the severed head of my brother like it was a trophy was Finn. No, not Finn. I had killed him in the last attack that killed Selene.
The resemblance was uncanny though so I knew this had to be his son, who was probably now commandeering the werewolf hunters.
Raphael and two other sentinels appeared behind me and when I looked back at the part of my home that had been set ablaze, I wondered how it had all gone so wrong.
“What’s our status?” I asked my Beta and he shook his head.
“Dead. It was an ambush. Many of ours are dead. We are probably all that is left.”
I growled, fighting the urge to give in to the Beast even though I knew that I could probably kill all of the hunters if I surrendered.
But I would also kill my people who were running for their lives right now, deeper into the mountain.
I would kill my best friend, Raphael. I would kill all of the sentinels.
I would kill everyone in a haze, as the Beast was only after being power drunk from the kill.
“Well, well, well. If it isn’t Roma Ruggiero.” The boy said. He didn’t look like he would be more than Aria’s age and I just realized why he was familiar. I had seen him once when I was in town.
Or maybe he wanted me to see him.
Throwing my brother’s head at me, he smirked and I realized why I had felt death.
Wolves could feel the death of a family member and even though Carlos and I had not behaved like family for the longest time, my heart mourned for him.
It broke for the relationship we never had.
“Oh don’t look so upset. He has been working with me for months. Helping with all the random attacks that killed some of your own. He’s a disgusting piece of shit.”
“Shut up!” Raphael growled and he laughed.
“What do you want?” I asked, my expression sullen.
“I want you dead of course. And all of your people. But I’m willing to give you a chance. Let’s say it’s because I’m chivalrous. We fight to the death, one on one. If I kill you, then all of your wolves are dead. But if you kill me, then you can do as you wish.” He said with a cocky grin that I had seen on his father right as he fired the wolfsbane laced arrow that had killed Selene that night.
Rage was like a whisper in my veins. a hum in my b***d. a ringing in my ears.
“Why should I listen to you?”
“Because I have what you love the most. I have Aria in my custody and if you don’t do as I wish, I might as well gun you down. You don’t want to know how she begged me to protect her from you. A monster, she said. She called you a monster.”
I growled, unable to stop the Beast from surging forth even if it was partially.
We were in agreement. This hunter had to die tonight.
“I’m going to kill you!” I roared and he grinned.
“Well then. Let’s begin.”
