Chapter 16
Morning after morning, Beth found herself getting chained on to the shame table during breakfast while food is repeatedly thrown at her after which she is returned back to her cell once again. As boring as her life is turning out to be, this particular practice seems like the new order of the day.
A whole week had gone by since she last saw Alex or even Asher. Since she is still very much confine to the four corner of her cell and not allowed to roam about freely just like everyone else, Beth could only assume her tormentors are somewhere out there.
The fact that none of them had come around to growl or poke stick at her isn’t the root of her worries at the moment but the obvious quietness. Beth has no idea what they could be plotting to do with her this time around but she was absolutely sure something was brewing.
The thought of something cynical happening once again and also unexpectedly is enough to make her stomach churn uncomfortably with absolute dread for her life. Each day is like living on borrowed time not knowing when it would be snatched away from her.
It’s even more crazy how she is a means to a pointless stab of revenge against a man that is supposed to be her father.
It’s not like her death would make him feel even the slightest pain or sadness which is why she has to think of a way to make Asher realize the mistake he was making. Keeping her hostage while the real killer of his wife walk free is just stupid and pointless.
Too many options buzzed through her mind with none actually making real sense or seeming like the one that would convince Asher. He has already proven so far to be deaf, dumb, blind and stone hearted to anything she has to say, so coming up with a plan that can make him have a change of heart towards her is just so close to impossible.
Beth sighed deeply in frustration as she lay back down before rolling from one end of her blanket to the next. Burying her face into it, she let out a muffled scream just silently cussing at her luck.
The rest of the day went by in a total blur. In a bid to keep herself busy, she had her hair braided into two loops just like her roommate in school had taught her even though it was in serious need of shampooing.
The wound on her back and arms felt painless as the bandages had already been removed like two days ago. Only pink and healing scars were left behind. It was truly strange how smoothly she had healed without scarring so much.
She made herself more comfortable against the floor before she inhaled deeply and exhaling slowly. It wasn’t exactly quiet outside as howls could be heard from afar. Regardless of her surrounding, Beth had no choice but to close her eyes before allowing her mind to slowly drift into a quiet slumber, with her arms folded under her head with a slight frown plastered on her face.
Sleeping was the only way to escape from her troubles even if it was just for a while but it seem they actually followed her to dream land on this particular night.
Beth wasn’t asleep for long before she began whimpering in her sleep. She jolted awake after muttering more incoherent words under her breath, wincing in pain, she managed to drag herself into a seating position, her teeth clattering terribly.
From how much her skin was burning up with shallow breath, Beth knew she was definitely coming down with something serious as she continued to take sharp breath with great difficulty. Her chest hurt like hell each time she tried to replace her voice and call for help.
“Oh crap, crap” she kept muttering with a deep burning sensation down her throat.
With her head clutched tightly between her hands, she lay back down on the blanket, half of her shivering form made it to the floor, as she lay coiled up into a ball at the throbbing pain surging through her body.
She felt almost hopeful when the door was suddenly thrown open with heavy footsteps heading towards her on the floor.
“Hey, get up” She heard an angry growl before a hand came to grab at her arms but almost flinch at the burning sensation they got in return.
“F**k” She heard whoever it was cuss under their breath before they start to pace around in obvious frustration.
“This isn’t good” The heard the voice starting to get worried and she tried to focus on the face now hovering above her but realized that, she was entirely out of focus at this point. Her fever was getting stronger, up to the point of blurring her vision.
Another minute slip by before she felt urgent hands grasping her shivering form as she was lifted from the ground. The world around her start to move as well and she lifted her head barely to peered at the face carrying her away but found her eye lid getting too heavy, forcing her to clench them shut.
She wasn’t sure how long she was carried in those arms but everything felt like just a moment before she was being lowered against a soft surface.
She sighed pleasantly and shifted over the bed comfortably while murmuring incoherent words under her breath yet again. More than a single voice could be heard in the room at this point as she was left whimpering on the bed.
She sighed in relief when she felt a wet piece of cloth being placed against her forehead. Shortly afterward, she fell asleep altogether, still clenching onto the sheet beneath her.

Beth woke up slowly, stretching carelessly with a loud yawn with absolutely no cares or worries in the world before her eyes snapped open when she recalled memories from last night, the sudden headache and shivering not to mention waking up in a strange bed.
She sat up just as quickly with a gasp, her emerald green eyes wide in realization as it met with the grey walls and a certain mass of blond curls resting against the bed.
Backing away slightly from the sleeping form on the edge of the bed, she quickly pulled her knees up to her chest, her arms going to wrap around her legs protectively. She continued to stare down at the Alex’s sleeping form with her head ducked to the side.
It’s really crazy and at the same time funny how he always seem to get to her whenever she is in trouble and in need of saving unless from Asher of course, he’d turn a freaking blind eye to that, she noted with a frown before it was replaced by a small smile.
Without thinking much of her next action, Beth lifted a hand and ran it through his messy hair but not enough to wake him up. She noticed how awfully dry they felt between her fingers and decided it was also in need of shampooing after all.
After a moment of just seating there and staring at the sleeping man, he finally stirred awake and immediately jerk upright before leaning back against the chair.
“You are awake and okay, I see” He stated with a yawn before lifting his hand to rub against his neck in discomfort.
Beth answered with a nod, not able to hold back her smile. “Thank you for saving me, Alex. I don’t know what happened but my head felt like it was going to explode if I did as much as moved it towards the wrong direction. It was really awful”
“Your stress level was already high so it was already a matter of time before you came down with fever but it’s not me you should be thanking. Someone else brought you to me” He said with a shrug before getting back on his feet.
Beth thought to ask who her savior was but decided against it before he turned and began walking into the bathroom. She was left wondering who her savior was.
It’s certainly can’t be Asher himself right? Even though she somehow thought that voice sounded just like his but whatever, even if it was him then he only did it so he could kill her himself and not because he have a heart. Beth thought with a frown.
