“What have you really been up to before you came here?” Jax asked her with a dark tone, underlying his voice.

“Loo… Looking for jobs and…and more jobs to pay off my bills” She shuttered, starting to shift uncomfortably under his fierce scrutiny.

Jax let out a disapproving growl under his breath as he raised a brow at her, causing her to swallow nervously.

Beth wasn’t sure what he was expecting her to say from the unbelievable look in his eyes.

“Are you sure? Father didn’t try to teach his little girl some hunting techniques and tricks?” He shot the questions out accusingly, pulling her wrist behind her back painfully, causing her to yelp in pain.

“I was abandoned at school after my mom passed away when I was eight years old and I swear to God, that was the last time I ever saw or heard from him. He..he never came to see me” Beth screamed almost angrily, the pain shooting through her arms totally unbearable.

Jax finally released her and she stumble slightly before crashing to the floor with a thud. His earlier accusation sounding completely ridiculous to her and not to mention the humiliation and then she began sobbing hysterically, the thought of getting abandoned all these years by her father finally starting to weigh in on her thought like a sack of grain.

A moment or two past and nothing more was heard, only the sound of Beth crying like a baby could be heard, filling the hall.

Beth felt his finger suddenly under her chin, lifting her face to look up at him. “Are you done?” He questioned with a single brow raised at her before she was forced to sniffed back her tears while getting pulled to stand back up on her feet once again.

Beth kept swallowing back saliva to keep her tears from spilling once again. Heck she even regretted losing control a moment ago as she kept telling herself to be strong. Must not cry, must not show these group of savages she is weak and must keep her head high no matter the fate that await her tonight in their claws.

She has to be strong still.

“So you are saying, your father never visited or went to see you in school” he paused for a second before turning to the crowd. “Can anyone believe that lie?”

Roars of curses were thrown at her much to Jax satisfaction before turning to grab at her face, forcing her to look up at him.

“I don’t expect you to tell the truth Elizabeth because the only thing craved into your brain is lies but regardless of what you have to say about your father, I still believe, he must have had other means of getting to you through gifts with cryptic messages, didn’t he?”

Beth wince in pain as his nails dig into her flesh yet she couldn’t allow herself to cry out even.

Not once has she received any gift from her father. Not even on her birthdays. The only thing he ever allowed her keep was her mother’s necklace. A silver necklace with her picture locked inside the pendent.

She has always wore it around her neck until recently when she lost it. She isn’t exactly sure how but it must have been when she was abducted by Asher weeks ago.

“No, my father never did” She answered simply with a shrug, causing a frustrated growl to erupt Jax l*p as his hands fell from her face before it went back to grab her by the arm and pulled her close.

“That’s enough, Jax” Asher growled threateningly before he could land her another slap to the cheek. Covering the distance to where they stood, he snatched her from his brother’s grip before he pulled her to his side and turned to face the council.

“I’m the one whose mate was killed by the hunter not Jax so I reserve the absolute right to do to his daughter as please. Elizabeth is my prisoner not his” Asher spat in anger, his feature vibrating with visible rage.

“You have all the right Asher. So go ahead and make your decision. Do make it quick as well, we don’t have all night” The older man spoke once more with a wave of his hand.

“I condemn her to death. That is my final judgment. She will be killed by the next full moon as sacrifice to the moon goddess for Macy to replace eternal rest” Asher declared without even glancing at Beth whose eyes were wide in shock.

“Good decision, Asher. You are truly the son of your father and so shall it be” He said darkly and Asher made an unrecognized sound under his breath before dragging her out the door and back to her cell once more.

**

Beth sat by the corner in the dark with no word said. Not even a single tears was allowed to slip down her cheeks. She simply held it all in as she sat staring deep into the darkness.

She could kick, scream and cry him a river and he’d simply build a bridge over it and drive a dagger to her heart with pleasure as nothing could simply change his mind.

Beth could feel her heart thudding dully in her chest, a clear indication that it was also tired of struggling against the inevitable. Maybe this was her fate after all. The sole reason for her birth was probably for this very purpose.

For her to become a sacrificial lamb for a group of close minded savages who think themselves to be the law.

It’s truly pathetic indeed but it was her fate. Something she has finally come to terms with.

The door to her cell was thrown open with Asher striding in. He stopped before her, his eyes flooded with something unrecognized as he kept staring at her.

With stiff posture still seating on the floor, Asher reach over and grab her by the arm but not in a harmful way but she was startled nonetheless as she stared up at him. Beth could see how conflicted his demeanor was as she search for the right word to say to her.

“When you finally meet your end, I will make sure it’s quick and painless. You have my word, Elizabeth” Asher stated honorably without even blinking.

For a moment, Beth was stunned by the words that fell out of his mouth as she stared back at his face before something snapped inside of her and her confusion quickly morphed into rage and she slapped his hand away from her arm.

“Your words?” She asked.

“Wow, for a moment there, you got me thinking what a truly noble act that would be coming from a man who had me kidnapped, whipped, tortured, raped, thrown food at and not to mention, almost choked to death by a psycho of a brother. Giving me a painless death would truly be a selfless act Asher but guess what? You can go ahead and make it as painful as you want because I don’t give a f**k anymore” She spat with as much venom as possible.

The moment those words left her mouth, she was abruptly shoved against the wall, the impact so sudden that she almost lost her breath.

“You stupid ungrateful wretch” He growled deeply, his hateful glare burning against her face. “You have no f*****g idea what await you, do you?” He snarled through gritted teeth and she scoffed under her breath before looking at him squarely in the eyes, Finally in the mood to breath out the words she needed him to hear so badly.

“F**k you and your entire pack of savages because I don’t give a f**k about anything anymore” Beth was left breathless from all the rage surging through her veins like poison as she glared back at Asher who was left staring at her with the same intensity.

They held each other gazes for a moment more before he moved away from her and bolted from the room as well.
