Taken By The Demon Alpha -
Chapter 40
Asher made his way out of the large set of buildings that housed some of the elders. There were some issues he had to deal with and now that he had dealt with them, he needed a long rest.
‘’Greetings Alpha Asher.’’ a voice called at him, halting him as well.
Asher turned and looked towards the direction of the voice and discovered that he was now staring at the last person he was expecting to see. Asher growled lightly under his breath as Elder Marcus continued to stride towards him. Asher doesn’t trust him and certainly does not want to have any form of personal discussion with him either.
‘’Greetings Elder Marcus” Asher said as politely as he could afford.
‘’How is the hunter’s daughter?’’ he asked and Asher raised a brow at him.
Why was he asking? He wanted to ask him but had to hold back. It’s not that he cared, that much Asher knew. He was just trying to fish out information from him but if he thought he would feed him information about Elizabeth wellbeing so he can relate it to the rest of the council then, he got it all wrong.
‘’Fine.’’ Asher snapped but turning to walk away.
His work for today was done and he needed to get back to his chambers to sleep off the tiredness he was having.
‘’That’s no way to talk to an elder is it?’’ Elder Marcus voice rang through the still night before he could walk farther away.
“I’m sorry but I have far more important things to do than talk about the woman in my care.’’ Asher said trying so hard not to snap at the older man who stood before him.
He was slowly losing it and he knew he had to keep his temper in check. It wouldn’t do him any good if he lashed out at the man for something as little as that.
“Why do you take such offense in my word, Asher?’’ the elder asked just as calmly
Asher sighed, taking several breaths to reign down on his anger. He needed to keep his cool because it seem that man was playing at something. Something more cynical than he could comprehend.
‘’Good night Elder Marcus” Asher said in finality before walking away.
Even as he walked away, Asher could still feel his gaze burning through the back of his head but at that moment, he just didn’t care. He can plot for all he cared but when the time came, he’d show them who is the Alpha.
Asher signed yet again. He seemed to be doing that a lot lately and he knew for a fact that it was due to the issue on ground. Ways by which he could keep Elizabeth from harm’s way was always on his mind.
“F**k!” he cussed under his breath as he walked down the hallway leading to his own room.
Asher came to a pause when he noticed Alex’s lights were still on. He thought about going to pour out his heart to him once again but decided against it, instead moving towards his own quarters. Maybe he needed to rest as much as he did.
Asher got to his door, stopping just before going in. A sense of nostalgia hit him as he breathed in the cool night air. He had done this just a few hours ago and he had a feeling that it was about to become a regular occurrence.
By now, he knew Elizabeth would be fast asleep and might not cause any trouble for him but yet, he was feeling reluctant to go in. Call it a grudging feeling or what not, but it was a feeling he was starting to get accustomed with.
Asher sighed once again before pushing the door open. Stepping into the room, he discovered that Elizabeth had switched off the light, a behavior he found quite odd. She usually preferred leaving the lights on because according to her, she was scared of the dark.
Asher found the light switch by the side of the door, switching it on as the room was bathed in an incandescent glow.
To his dismay, he found her sprawled out on the bed, half naked, thighs spread apart and fast asleep. Now, he understood why she had switched off the lights. She expected him to just come in like he usually did, take his bath and then lay down to sleep.
Asher chuckled at her naiveté. The skimpy nightgown she wore did little or nothing to cover up her nakedness. Her waist down was bare and he could actually see the black panties she wore.
‘’Are you trying to seduce me, Elizabeth?’’ Asher asked with amusement before shaking his head slightly.
“She couldn’t be right, not with the look of hate I have seen in those green orbs of hers glaring at me” Asher said once again with a raised brow.
As much as he might like to stand there and admire her sensual body, he needed sleep. He will have a busy day again tomorrow and the earlier he gets some sleep, the better for him.

Before he joined her on the bed, he needed to take a shower. He smelt horrible, a combination of stale sweat and dirt. He made his way towards the bathroom, turning on the shower. He sighed, taking in the cold water that cascaded down his body. He never bothered for hot or warm water because it made him uncomfortable. What he loved was to feel the cold water as it went down his body.
When he was done, he dried his hair, wrapping a towel around his body. Elizabeth was still fast asleep in the same position he left her. Asher chuckled, shrugging on his pajamas.
He made his way towards the bed, tapping her gently. He needed to get to his own side of the bed and the only way he could do it was by waking her. Asher tapped again and this time, the only thing he got was some incoherent muttering under her breath.
Frustrated by this, Asher tapped her again, this time slightly harder than the first. Elizabeth snored lightly, taking up more space on the bed. Every attempt to wake her was futile. Asher was beyond frustrated and he knew that there was no waking her up that night. She was dead to the world.
He sighed, drawing out her blow up bed that was beside his own king sized bed. He had it spread out on the floor before settling down on it and instantly felt itchy.
At first he tried not to pay attention to how uncomfortable it made him but try as he may, he g***n out in frustration wondering how she was able to sleep comfortable on it all those nights he made her sleep on it.
At that moment, Asher felt sorry for giving it to her. In her condition, that was not what she needed. What she needed was something soft and comfortable and not this hard rock he had subjected her to. He felt guilty, beyond guilty for doing that to her. Within him, he vowed to make it up to her. In what way, that was something he had to think about but one thing he was certain of was that he wouldn’t allow her to sleep on it ever again.
