Taken By The Demon Alpha -
Chapter 42
As quickly as he left her, Asher returned with a bowel of chicken soup in hand before settling beside her on the bed. Beth couldn’t help but stare openly at the man seating beside her.
Placing the food tray beside her, he turned to face her, “Go on, eat it before it get cold” He offered and she gave a nod, still unable to replace her word.
Scooping some of the soup, she place it in her mouth and almost burned her tongue as well. “hold on, let me feed you”
Asher took hold of the soup and began to feed her, first he would blow air at it before offering it to her. They both sat in silent while he continued to feed her, after a while, Beth couldn’t take the niceness anymore and decided to air out her thought.
“I know you are trying to apologize for what you did but still, I can’t help but think this is too much for me to believe. I’m not used to being treated this way”
A little sigh slipped out his mouth as he quickly placed the tray of food away. “I know this might look all fake and sudden to you but I’m just trying to make an effort at treating you better. I can change the things I have done but I can make a conscious effort for you to see me different”
She arched a brow at him, “Does that mean, you won’t kill me anymore? Or you are just going to keep being nice to me till I give birth and then boom, you are back to being mean again”
“I don’t know, Elizabeth. Let the future handle itself but for now, you should let me take care of you and that baby”
“yeah, I thought so too” She said dejectedly before staring back at her hands on top her laps.
Asher picked up the tray and tried to feed her once again but she turned him down and he placed it back before getting back on his feet. He moved over to the wardrobe and pull out another shirt before shrugging out of the washed out blue he was putting on.
He was still busy with dressing up when he heard a sharp knock on the door and his head snapped at the door. Asher g*****d before moving towards the closed door and pulled it open. A young male stood by the door way, his eyes barely making contact with the Alpha’s annoyed ones.
“Speak, Len. What brings you to my door?”
“I’m sorry for disturbing you Alpha but the council of elders require your presence at the hall” he said, bowing respectfully.
At the mention of the elders, Asher had his hands coiled into fist as he glared back at the younger male who was still standing by the door way, his gaze casted to the floor beneath him.
‘’Can’t it wait?’’ Asher snapped.
‘’I’m afraid It’s kind of urgent.’’ the boy said.
Asher stood still, his mind going through different thoughts, none of which was appealing to him but he had to, there was simply no choice in this.
“Alright. You may go. I’ll be there in a jiffy.’’ he said before slamming the door shut.
He walked back into the room and met Beth eye trained on him.
‘’The council of elders need me, I have to go.’’ he sighed.
‘’Okay’’ She said simply and his jaw clenched tightly.
While Asher quietly walked out the door, Beth on the other hand was left feeling anxious and worried over why the council of elders wanted to see Asher. She could vividly remember the last time they summoned him. That day, they demanded a judgement be passed on her and Asher had obeyed.
Elizabeth knew that as soon as she delivered, they would discard her as quickly as they could. Feeling anxious and curious, Elizabeth decided to sneak off towards the hall. She had to be on her guard in case they wanted to carry out their plan before her due date. She didn’t trust them one bit and she was not about to let herself be taken unawares either.
Rising to her feet, she shrugged on a hoodie before pulling her hair into a loose ponytail before she stepped out of the room. What she was about to do was very risky and if Asher got wind that she left the room without his permission, he’d lock her up or even worst, come up with new ways to torture her.
Elizabeth was curious about what they wanted from him. She couldn’t stay in her room and watch her mind go into a series of thoughts and assumptions when she could very well take matters into her own hands.
She got to the door leading towards the hall where the meeting was to be held. It wasn’t very difficult to hear Asher’s voice, which was relatively the loudest. The talks ranged from matters affecting the pack to the annual ball which was coming up on the night of the full moon. Elizabeth was just about leaving, thinking that that was all there was to say until what Asher said next had her whipping her head back.
Though he couldn’t see her and vice versa, it just looked like he was talking to her. There was a growing pain in her chest and she knew it would take a long time to ease. Asher had just broken her trust once again and this time, Elizabeth knew there was no going back.
‘’Elder Marcus, you very well know that she’s still alive because of the pregnancy and as soon as she delivers, she would be executed as planned.’’ Asher said firmly
There was no shred of remorse in his voice. He said it with full conviction. Elizabeth found herself covering her mouth to keep from crying out. She knew his niceness can’t be trusted. She did be a fool to trust he might let her live after giving birth to his child.
She shuddered with fright knowing Asher would have her executed without blinking an eye. The emotion she saw in his eyes, coupled with the kind words he said to her was nothing but a stupid façade he had put on to deceive her and it hurt her to think, she almost fell for it.
Asher didn’t like her. Everything he did and had been doing was all due to the fact that she carried his child, nothing more, nothing less. He was doing it all to make her feel comfortable with him as he slowly planned her death.
The clothes, the kind words, everything went down the drain as she listened more and more on how they were to execute her. Just a few minutes ago, she was on the verge of seeing him as anything but a monster.
She was glad she didn’t fall for any of it as tears of anguish and pain streamed down her eyes with Asher’s words replaying in her head over and over again.
A sudden thought breezed through her mind about escaping but she knew that wouldn’t be possible because before she took even an inch out of the camp, the guards would be upon her faster than she could say her name.
With tears streaming down her eyes, Elizabeth left the hallway with no particular destination in mind, all she knew was that, she wanted to get as far away from those people as possible.
