It’s been an hour since they left in search of Elizabeth yet there was still no sign of her. It’s as if she had disappeared into thin air and leaving no single trace behind. It’s even crazier that the guards at the border didn’t see her walk by so she couldn’t have left.

Asher’s frustration had quickly morphed into rage as he growled into the night and causing the guards with him to moved back in fear of what their Alpha might do seeing just how angry he was.

“Where the f**k are you, Elizabeth” He growled yet again under his breath, his hands coiled into tight fist by his side.

He was going out of his mind at this point, thinking the very worst as he stood with clenched jaw. Just about then, Alex called through the pack mind link. He had found Elizabeth. She is currently in her former room, fast asleep.

Within seconds, Asher was rushing in through the room as he stood beside his Beta, both men staring down at her sleeping form coiled up on the sheet in the corner. The room was still in ruin from his fight with Luca the night she was attacked. He hasn’t have time to get someone to fix it yet. He has pretty much being caught up with other things.

To say he was relieved at the sight before him would be an understatement. Asher was happy as so many thoughts filtered through his mind, one of them being that of joy to see her safe and totally unharmed. For a moment there, he really thought something bad had happened to her.

He didn’t know whether to be angry or happy but all he knew was that he was relieved.

“How long has she being sleeping here?”

Alex shrugged, “I don’t know. I just thought to check here and found her here”

Asher sighed deeply before placing a gentle hand on Alex’s shoulder. “Thank you. I will take it from here”

Alex gave an understanding nod before walking out the door without another glance at her direction.

Once Alex was gone. He took two steps towards her, before reaching over to tap her lightly across the shoulder in order to wake her up. Instead of waking up, she stirred slightly and coiled into herself more.

At that point, she looked like a little homeless child and Asher suddenly had the need to protect and keep her side. He slide his arms gently around her before picking her off the ground and into his arms and she snuggled into his chest almost immediately with a sigh.

Asher was shocked by her reaction as he just stood there watching her sleeping form in his arms for a moment before walking out the door with Elizabeth still wrapped up in his arms.

Once in his room, he placed her gently against the bed before covering her with the duvet on the bed. He thought about joining her on the bed but decided against it, instead he sat back just watching her sleep.

And slowly, like one who was just waking from a long slumber, Elizabeth opened her eyes one at a time as she took in her surroundings. The last thing she remembered was falling into a dreamless sleep in her former room filled with shards of broken things and debris.

As she slowly came around, her eyes found Asher who was sitting on the high back chair, staring right at her. Elizabeth g*****d, feeling a sharp pain in her belly.

“Welcome back. Elizabeth” Asher said, his voice low with hidden meaning.

Elizabeth was confused. She didn’t understand what he meant by that. She sighed as memories of the previous day filtered through her mind.

Asher rose up from the seat, coming to sit beside her on the bed, his face just an inch away from her. The expression on his face was unreadable and Elizabeth had a hard time trying to understand what he was thinking.

The more she stared at him, the more she recalled the words he had said to the elders and the more hurt she felt. Asher still planned on killing her but she felt worse that she had believed he had changed. He had her fooled thinking that he truly cared for her.

At that moment, Elizabeth couldn’t help but think that she was the greatest fool on earth.

Asher never liked her and he never will, that was something she needed to understand.

“Why did you run off like that?” Asher asked with a single brow raised at her.

Elizabeth stared at him, not quite believing what he said. Did he really expect her to stay here with him after hearing those hurtful words he said against her to the council of elders?

‘’I didn’t run away. I simply took a stroll to my old room”

Asher stared at her, a heated look in his eyes. Elizabeth knew she had him at a tight corner with no way for him to wriggle himself out.

“I’m disappointed over your actions Elizabeth. After all we talked about, i expected you to act with caution and not run off like that” Asher query., “Everyone was worried thinking the very worst”

Elizabeth wanted so bad to scream at him. To just tell him to shove his care down his stuck up a*s but had to swallow it all back. It was better that way. She simply can’t allow him see her heart broken once again. She needed to stay strong and replace her own way with or without any of their help.

“I’m sorry” She murmured, “I won’t do that again. I promise”

Asher was taken aback by her apology. Somehow, he expected her to say something in her defense not offer an accept her fault just like that.

Asher couldn’t place his finger on it but he could tell there was something different about her. Something depressing and sad and he didn’t know how to get her to talk about it.

Maybe something are best left unsaid after all.

“Are you hungry?” he asked after a while and watched her shook her head slightly.

“No, I’m fine”

“Are you sure? I mean, Eva said you shouldn’t be allowed to sleep with an empty stomach and as far as I know, you only had three spoon of soup earlier. You need to eat something at least for the baby.’’ Asher insisted.

“No, I said I’m not hungry” She snapped right back him, catching him unawares as he jerked away from her.

“Okay. I’m sorry for insisting so much”

Elizabeth watched him leave the room, silently closing the door. Now, she was alone and free to drown in her pain and sorrow. Only then did she allow the tears she was holding in to finally slip down her cheek over and over again, almost choking her as she cried into her hands.

Asher is truly a monster and there is no denying that.
