Chapter 47

Asher had no idea how long he was asleep for but was jolted awake when he heard Elizabeth crying out in her sleep. At first he thought she was having one of those dreams where she would call out his name but turns out it wasn’t and she was somewhat in pain and calling out at him.

“F**k!, what’s happening to you” He asked breathlessly as he jerked into a seating position and stared back at her pained expression.

“I can’t…I can’t_help me please, oh crap!” She cursed out before grabbing his arm tightly with nails digging into his flesh just as much.

Asher was startled by her sudden reaction but the way her face scrunched up in agony told him it was serious as she kept on thrashing on the bed.

His eyes moved from her and settle on the wall clock and realized it was just past midnight. Asher was beyond frustrated on what to do next as he watched helplessly while she g*****d into his chest over and over again.

“Elizabeth? What is it. Is it the baby?”

She only whimpered in response before holding onto her abdomen wordlessly.

Her eyes fluttered open to stare helplessly and Asher knew deep within him that something wasn’t right. Asher let out a panic growl as he spring into action and pulled her limp body into his lap and proceeded to checking her pulse and discovered to his horror that it was getting weak by the minute as she continued to gasp for breath before he watched her slipped into unconsciousness.

“Elizabeth?” Asher croaked out but got no reply.

“Lizzy?” He called out once again and met with utter silence before taking her limp hand in his and then dropped it with a gasp.

She was unresponsive which just heightened the fear within him. There was nothing he didn’t do all in a bid to wake her up but Elizabeth was out cold like the wind. He gripped her hand, still trying to feel her pulse again and it was the same thing as before.

“F**k!”

Now, Asher knew he had to call the pack doctor. She was the only one who could help Elizabeth. He lined her back on the bed before rushing out of the room. It was dark now with the clouds hanging darkly in the sky.

He hurried towards the small building that housed the doctor, relieved that the lights from the building were still on. She was the general pack doctor and most times, she had little to no patient for her to take care of.

Asher knocked, hoping that she would respond in time. One thing about the pack doctor was that anytime she was working, she tended to play music. According to her, it always eased the tension she felt when examining a patient.

Asher was in luck. Doctor Eva opened just after two knocks. She smiled but when she saw the look on his face, her smile dropped.

“Alpha, Asher?” she said, surprised at the Alpha unexpected appearance at her clinic.

“What’s wrong?”

“It’s Elizabeth. Something is f*****g wrong with her, Eva”

“Where is she?”

“In my room” Asher let out in panic .

Eva immediately dropped the tray she was holding on to before hurrying into her inner chamber only to return with a small box in hand.

“Let’s go quickly” Eva holding on to her stethoscope while hurrying towards Asher’s room. When they got there, Elizabeth was still in the same position she had left her. Eva walked towards her briskly, checking her pulse. It was faint, just like Asher had noted earlier.

Asher was beyond worried now as he stood pacing by the corner not sure what to make out of her sudden illness. Was it the food she ate? Or something else was wrong with her. He already suspected her to be sick that morning but didn’t think much of anything, only because she herself assured him she was fine.

Asher made a mental note never to take her word for anything ever again. Especially one that has to do with her health.

“She’s going to be fine” Eva assured him after a while.

Letting out a relieved sigh, Asher came and stood beside her with hands anchored against his waist with kneaded brows.

“Are you sure about that? For a moment there, I thought she was gone or something”

“She only passed out” Eva said once again before leaning over to brush some of her hair away from her face.

“What exactly is the problem?’’ Asher asked.

“I don’t know but from the look of thing and how quickly she has become stable again. It’s obvious the fetus in her womb is growing and her system is also trying to adjust to the growth. For a she wolf, it would be normal but for her, it’s going to be painful so she needs a lot of rest to gradually adjust to those changes”

Asher knew her stress was probably because of their recent arguments which were enough to drive her to the brink of exhaustion considering the condition she was in.

“Do you think you can give her that? “ Eva asked, staring right at him.

He sighed, rubbing his tired eyes in exhaustion as he glanced at the clock on the far end of the room and discovered it was a few minutes past five before glancing back at Elizabeth sleeping form. She was coiled up on the bed and snoring peacefully.

Eva removed her stethoscope before coming to stand beside him.

“I know you have done your best in caring for her but would you like me to take her to come stay with me? I bet as Alpha, you have other things to look after without having to worry about her”

Asher signed yet again, ruffling his hair. He stared at Elizabeth sleeping form on the bed and Eva followed his line of vision and she knew what his answer would be.

“it’s okay to say no, I only wanted to relief you but if you ever need my help. Just ask”

“Thank you, Eva” She answered with a nod before grabbing her things and walking towards the door and paused briefly. “I will be back in the morning to check on her”

“Okay” She gave a nod before walking out the door and leaving Asher to sighed in deeply.

It would have been so easy to get rid of her by sending her away to Eva but Asher found that he couldn’t knowing all the possible dangers lurking around. Even if she was a total pain in his life, he still rather put up with it than put her in harms way, knowing his bloodline also depended on her safe delivery.

Asher gave a little yawn and stretch before sliding into bed beside her with another sigh slipping out of his mouth before allowing himself get lured into a little slumber.
