Elizabeth woke up the next morning with a start. She lay still, trying to slow her erratic breathing to a halt while memories from last night flood into her mind just as slowly. She blinked once then twice.

If she was breathing right at that moment then it means, She wasn’t death yet.

Elizabeth continued to blink, now trying to adjust her eyes to the ray of sunlight filtering into the room. When she did, she was quite surprised to see Eva, the pack doctor beside her.

She smiled down at Elizabeth whose face was masked in confusion. Asher stood beside her with a deep frown on his face, he avoided her eyes and Elizabeth could tell that he was feeling somewhat guilty.

He should be, that was the reaction she expected from him. She gulped, looking away from him. There was a numb feeling within her and it stemmed from the fact that she was still having a slight pain in her stomach.

“Hello, Elizabeth, how do you feel?” Eva asked.

She gave Elizabeth’s hands a gentle squeeze, smiling lightly at the expectant mother.

Elizabeth was really grateful for her help. If it hadn’t been for her, she could have died from the pain already.

“Asides from feeling like i was hit with a thousand pound brick, i think i’m fine” Elizabeth said with smile.

She tried to sat up and Eva quickly assisted her before placing a pillow behind her head.

Throughout, Asher remained quiet and she loved it. If he so much as uttered a word, she wouldn’t hesitate to put him in his place.

“Just relax okay? Like I said before, whatever you are feeling is completely normal. Your body is still trying to get used to the baby. The pain will pass, that i am sure of.’’ Eva said.

“To be honest Eva, I am getting tired of this blackness. Every time, i pass out with no recollection of what had happened” Elizabeth sighed.

“It’s all a part of it. Elizabeth, this is just a phase, you’ll pass over it. I’m sure of it” Eva comforted her even more, brushing her fair behind her ears before giving her hands another gentle squeeze to reassure her that everything would be fine.

She turned back to Asher.

“Elizabeth just needs enough rest and care and she’ll be fine”.

“Thank you Eva. I’m glad she is responding well” Asher said with a nod.

“Well then, I have to return to the clinic now. Call me if you need anything”

While Asher walked Eva to the door, Elizabeth allowed herself to relax even more against the bed.

Now, she was left with Asher who didn’t know what to say at that moment. Guilt was written all over his face. He walked towards her in a bid to explain to her everything that had happened but decided against it.

“I’ll go get your food so you can eat and take your medication’’ he mumbled before leaving the room.

**

While Asher was gone. She got off the bed before making her way into the bathroom to brush and shower.

She proceeded to filling the bathtub up before heating it up. Once she was done, she shrugged her clothes off and made to get inside when she noticed the color of her eyes.

It has changed from its usual green orbs to grey with a hint of gold in it. She paused and took a step closer to the mirror.

The more she stared at her reflection, the more she could notice more strange things about herself. Her skin looked a lot more pale with visible veins lining her bump and more across her arms.

She let out a shaky breath as she recalled everything that happened before. Just yesterday she was looking just as healthy and now she was looking the exact opposite.

Maybe it was just the pregnancy reaction. She thought before sliding into the bathtub, one foot at a time until she was completely immense.

Once she was done, she wrapped herself up in a towel before heading into the room only to replace Asher waiting with her tray of breakfast.

She bypassed him and went to retrieve a shirt from her stack of clothes and tried to get it on but couldn’t and knew she had to ask Asher for help.

“Asher, could you, uhm, help me?”

“Of course” He said and moved to stand beside her before grabbing the clothes from her hand.

While Asher waited expectantly for her to unwrap the towel for him to dress her up, Elizabeth only glared at him.

“Well, go on and close your eyes or look the other way”

“what?” Asher asked in confusion.

“I said look away you pervert” She accused even more and he growled angrily before looking away.

“You do realized I have seen you naked more than twice right?”

“Exactly why you can’t see me naked again” She snapped even more angry at him and heard him scoffed under his breath.

Asher went ahead to help her without looking and once he was done, she told him it was okay to look.

“You are f*****g unbelievable you know that?”

She ignored him and reached for her food.

“yeah but not as annoying as you are if you ask me” she countered back and began to eat her food.

Asher sat by the corner and for the first time, he had no feeling of disgust as he watch her eat. If anything he looked amused by something.

“Did you really hit Kara on the face?” He blurted out and she paused and turned around to face him.

“She practically begged for it”

“So you did hit her”

She gave a shrug, “Not as hard as I would have loved but enough to pass a message. Now she can keep her whoring self away from me”

Asher was left searching for the right word to say to her as he just sat there staring at the fire in her eyes.

If he didn’t know better, he would have think her to be jealous.
