Chapter 85

“I don’t know. Someone must have told them and it’s not me and I doubt it’s Alex” Asher said with a confused brow.

He walked over to the window and looked outside, a low growl erupting his mouth as well.

The celebration were getting louder and he knew it only a matter of time before the news travels all around. The woman were probably happy the curse had been lifted and now they too can look forward to having their own babies without fear of being barren.

Asher was more furious at the situation than ever before. He realized whatever he wanted to do has to be done sooner than later. Now that her news was out, the elders would be looking for a meeting soon. The highest he is likely to get is a week and that would barely be enough.

“We are in danger ain’t we?” Elizabeth asked quietly, her voice filled with dread and sadness and Asher quickly rushed to her side, seeing the tears form in her eyes.

Cupping both her cheeks in his hands, he peered down at her intently, “I’m not going to let anyone hurt you or the baby, okay?”

Elizabeth nodded and Asher wiped away her tears with both thumps. Their faces now inches away as they continued to stare at each other, neither willing to break their eye contact.

The baby start to whimper in his cradle and Asher quickly let her go and carried him before handing him to her with a sigh. While Asher went to grab the baby’s bottle from across the cupboard, Alex rushed in through the door as though he was being chased.

“Asher?”

Asher turned to look at his Beta, taking his features carefully as his eyes immediately went to meet Elizabeth and the baby with a relief sigh escaping his mouth. Alex looked worried when he came in the first time and Asher already knows why but what he wanted to replace out as he took a step closer to him is how the f**k those words got out.

“How did they replace out?” Asher asked, his eyes narrowing at his Beta who only arched a confused brow back at him.

“I should be asking you about that one. I woke up to everything just like you did and I ran straight here to make sure she is not being harassed”

They held each other gaze for a moment and Asher knew he was telling the truth. Alex couldn’t have betrayed him like that. He cares for Elizabeth too and would want her to be safe and not the other way round.

Asher by passed him and handed Elizabeth the baby food muttering under his breath only to her hearing before he turned to face his Beta again.

“Come on, let talk outside”

Alex followed Asher to the door and paused midway before looking back to smile at Elizabeth and she gave him a small smile back in return.

They walked down the hall and into the corridor, away from possible eavesdropping before Asher stopped and then turned to raised a skeptic brow at Alex who had stopped as well.

“You didn’t do it, I didn’t do it, Eva would never do it, who was it then?” He questioned.

Alex shrugged. “maybe one of the guards? Or workers? I don’t know. You have any idea who could have done it?”

The more he thought about the issue, the more confused he got. There was no clue in his head that could lead him to the answers he wanted. At that moment, his head was blank.

This was what he hated, not knowing something he should know. It left him vulnerable and feeling frustrated, like he didn’t know what he was doing.

He decided to calm down, maybe then he would know what to do. He took a deep breath, willing his emotions to stay in check. He had noticed that when his emotions were in a hazy mess, he couldn’t quite think straight.

“Someone must have known about this. Someone other than the three of us and it’s not the damn guards or workers” Alex reasoned and he nodded.

Just about then, like a light suddenly permeating the darkness, clarity hit him like a thunderbolt.

Kara.

Kara was there on the day Alex had rushed in to bring the news. She was the only one who would have told the entire camp about this and considering how loud mouthed she was the one behind it all.

He hated her now, more than ever before and if he got any chance, he would show her how much he hated her.

it_” Asher paused mid sentence, his eyes growing darker in realization.

“What is it, Asher. Who are you suspecting?”

“That vile woman is responsible for all of this” Asher let out a screeched, “I swear, I’m going to break her limps and feed her to the dogs”

Alex eyes narrowed.

“whoa, who are you talking about, Kara?” He asked and Asher nodded.

“You think she did it?”

“I don’t think, I know she f*****g did it. She was at my room last night asking questions about Elizabeth and the baby and now this. That crazy bitch has crossed the limit this time”

“Calm down, Asher. We have far bigger problem in our hands than Kara. We need to think of how to prevent the execution from happening and fast”

Asher let out a sigh and then nodded.

Right there and then, he knew it was time to risk it all before he loose everything.

“what are you going to do?”

“I have to replace him. He started all these mess. If I replace him and put a dagger to his chest then I can manage to convinced the council to let her go”

Alex nodded.

“Then I will come with you. We can track him faster together”

“No” Asher answered quickly and he frown.

“I need you to stay here and look after her. You are the only one I can trust not to stab me in the back”

“But Asher, you need me. I’m your Beta. My place is by your side, facing an enemy like Lincoln is not something you want to do alone and much less in an unfamiliar territory” Alex expressed his concern but Asher was not about to have any of it.

“Well, I don’t care about the risk, don’t forget we have people far beyond this camp and if I need their help, I just have to ask”

“But still, you need me”

Asher jawline only clenched tightly. Seems he already made his decision and Alex is not going to get him to change his mine. This was his fight and he was going to face it alone. It was the only way to save his family without spilling too much b***d.

If there is any b***d that needed spilling then it would be Bradley Lincoln’s b***d and it would be worth it.

“Are you really sure about this?” Alex asked once again, pulling him out of his momentarily thought and Asher nodded.

“I’m sure. Just promise me you will look after my son and Elizabeth until I come back” Asher said grabbing him firmly by the shoulders as he looked into his striking green eyes.

“Asher, we’ve been together since we were little and I can promise you one thing, not a single fly will be allowed to touch the hair on Elizabeth and your son’s head even if I have to die to keep them safe then I promise you that I will until you’re back” Alex vowed.

It was a promise he fully intended to keep and there was really no way he would think of going back on his promise and Asher knew it.

“Thank you, my friend” Asher smiled, hugging him tight and Alex hugged him right back just as tightly.

When they pulled away. Alex glanced back at the clinic and then at his friend, “Have you told her you are leaving?”

“Not yet but I will”
