Asher POV

If Asher was angry before, now he is livid as he stormed into the council hall with b***d still soaked all over his clothes. All head turned to stare gingerly at him as all the muttering simply died down.

“Whose idiotic idea was it to send men after what’s mine?” Asher asked dangerously and threateningly, his eyes dark and filled with rage as he moved them through all the figures seated in the room.

Elder Marcus was the first to react with a cold glare at his direction.

“You really have forgotten where you are standing haven’t you? This great hall was built by your ancestors and have had men greater than you stand within it walls without raising their voice in disrespect but here you are, acting like an insolent child”

“I know exactly what this hall signify but lately I replace that only men of evil intent and malice dwells within its walls. Who among you sent those two men after my son’s life” Asher asked once again and he saw their eyes widen.

“So you have a son now?” one of the elders asked curiously and Asher growl in warning.

He knew just as manipulative those bunch were and having them act as though they were not already aware only added to his rage.

“That didn’t answer my question. So I’m going to ask one more time, who the f**k sent those men assassins after my family”

“Your family?” Elder Marcus asked with a single brow raised at him.

“The Hunter’s daughter is family now? Or you are just still carried away with the birth of your son”

Asher leaned over the desk, his eyes at the same level as the older man.

“You will stay away from her and my son or there will be consequences” he said darkly, meaning every single word.

“You may be the Alpha but don’t forget who have guided you when you were just a pup up until now. You will address this council with respect and_” His next word was caught short mid sentence with Asher fist meeting the desk hard.

“_Fuck your damn respect and everything you stand for. You bunch don’t deserve no respect and let this be a f*****g warning to you all. Another attack on, Elizabeth will not go unpunished. I will get you Lincoln head in exchange for hers and until then. Stay the f**k away from her and my son” he warned firmly, challenging them as well and none said anything in reply before he stormed out of their presence once again.

**

As he walked out and towards the hospital, Asher knew that the time had come for him to go inform her that he would be leaving. Taking a deep breath, he made his way into Elizabeth’s room at the far end of the hall and on getting there, he discovered that she was at the balcony, breastfeeding their child. At his presence, her head snapped at his direction before he saw her relaxed.

They held each other gazes for a moment before his eyes darted towards Sam and his jaw clenched tightly. He couldn’t believe he was almost hurt because of him. Asher never thought a day like this would come.

His own people trying to hurt his own flesh and b***d is something he can’t tolerate. And the sooner he put a stop to all of it, the better for everyone. Asher knew he was running out of time and the sooner he tell her what was going on, the sooner he can set out as well.

Just then, a huge gust of wind blew in from the east side which had Elizabeth trying to cover their son up as she rose up from where she was sitting, covering their child before shutting the balcony doors. The wind was too strong for them and so, she needed to bring baby Sam back in.

“I will keep you warm my love” Elizabeth said, as she k**s his cheeks sweetly.

In response, the baby gave out spurts of giggles that filled the whole room. The sound of that alone filled Asher’s heart with so much joy that he was left smiling as well.

“Yes my love, keep you warm and safe”

She settled back on the chair in the room and Asher inch closer and she looked up to face him.

“How are you?” Asher asked quietly and she smiled.

He really wanted to know how she was doing. That was the least he could ask and her wellbeing was something that was very important to him. He cherished her even though she might not have noticed it yet but he really did.

“I’m fine. You?”

He shrugged, “I’m okay but I need to tell you something”

The tension between them was palpable and could even be cut with a butter knife. Elizabeth had no idea what he wanted to say but the look on his face told her it was something serious. Asides this, there was something she had noticed about him. There was a look of defeat in his eyes, something she hadn’t seen in a very long while.

Something was definitely wrong and she couldn’t wait to replace out.

Asher let out a deep sigh before taking hold of her hand. There was no point keeping her in suspense. He stared at his son too and he felt a deep yearning to hold him. He really wanted to.

“Can I hold him?” Asher asked and she nodded before handing the baby to her.

Asher held him between his arms as he stared at the bubbling bundle in his arms. The more he stared at his face, the more he saw himself in every inch of him, making his heart swell with undeniable emotions.

They stayed in comfortable silence for a while, with Elizabeth just watching him hug him over and over again before he handed him over and took a step back. His eyes searching hers carefully as he let those next words slipped out his mouth.

“Beth, I’m leaving”

“okay, then. Good night”

“No, no. You don’t understand. I’m traveling”

Her eyes furrowed slightly.

If Elizabeth was surprised to hear those words, she did a good job of hiding her surprise but deep in her heart, endless questions were making he rounds in her head. He was leaving? To where? And why?

“Right now?”

He nodded.

“I have to go right now. I already made arrangement and can’t delay any further” Asher explained calmly.

“Where are you going? And when will you be back”

Asher shook his head slightly, “I can’t tell you where I’m going but I’m going to replace a solution to the problem with the council of elders. I can no longer keep quiet and pretend like everything is okay. Everything is not okay Beth, it isn’t. The council of elders want your head and lord knows that i would never allow that to happen and that’s why it’s why it’s important that I go” Asher explained.

Elizabeth sat still, with a look of concentration on her face as she stared at a spot above his head. He knew she was thinking about what he said and he was a bit scared of what her reaction would be to all of this.

“And What would happens to us when you’re gone? Who’s going to look after us?” Elizabeth asked.

Even though their relationship hasn’t been a good one, she couldn’t deny the fact that Asher had protected them and kept her safe more times than she could count.

His domineering presence was enough to scare the council of elders from taking a drastic action that would no doubt have resulted in her being dead already. Because he was here, that was why the council of elders hadn’t taken that decision yet and now that he was going on a journey, Elizabeth didn’t know what to think anymore.

“Alex will keep you and Sam safe. I’ve informed him about this and you can ask him for absolutely anything you need. You have nothing to fear” Asher assured her firmly and she nodded.

A lone tear rolled down her eyes as she stared at him with blurry eyes. She wasn’t crying because of what the council of elders had threatened, she was crying because she didn’t think he would come back alive and then she would be really doom.

Asher sighed, walking towards her. He squatted in front of her, taking her hands in his before he gave it a little squeeze, silently assuring her that everything would be fine.

“Please don’t cry, Elizabeth. I will return before you. You have nothing to fear” Asher said.

Elizabeth wiped her tears with the sleeve of her dress, staring at the man she had come to hate and care about all at the same time. He gave her a small smile, moving closer to her and before she could ask what he was doing, Asher quickly locked lips with her.

At first, they just stay in that position before his hand went up to the back of her head, closing the gap between them. His lips starting to move against her lips carefully and found herself responding to his k**s just as much.

They was something in the way he kissed her that spoke of care and affection, leaving her wanting more as she leaned further into his warmth and deep k****s.

This was the first time in a long while he would be showing so much emotion. He kissed her one more time before bringing their k**s to a stop, his forehead placed against her with a deep sigh.

“Take care of Sam until I’m back” He said quietly before moving back to peered into her eyes and she nodded.

Asher leaned over and kissed Sam on the forehead before stepping away. He walked over to the door, paused with one long glance before walking out the door.
