Alex’s eyes moved from her face and down to the bag clutched between her hand and immediately, he understood what Elizabeth was trying to do. He wasn’t surprised by this because of what she had gone through in the hands of Asher. This was her chance to escape and he knew he couldn’t blame her one bit if she tried.

But he made a promise to keep her safe and he was not about to give up on that just yet.

“Can I come in?” He asked her as he took a step further into the room and she hesitated for a moment before she let out a sigh and nodded.

“You won’t let me go, would you?”

“I’m sorry but I can’t let you risk your life and that of the baby like that. It’s too dangerous out there and your best shot is to stay here until Asher returns”

She couldn’t help but let out a bitter laugh as she let the bag fell to the floor beside her feet with a thud.

“I can’t stay here, Alex. Did you see what happened at the clinic today? My son was almost killed and now Asher is gone. Who knows when you will be leaving next”

Alex shook his head slightly, “I’m not leaving. I will be right now for anything you might need. Just trust me to look after you”

The Beta realized he is going to do more than just convinced her with just words. Elizabeth has every right to be reacting that way.

The council of elders were after her, coupled with the fact that Kara didn’t like her one bit. All these are what she thought about and her decision to escape. He couldn’t blame her, no he couldn’t. Instead, he blamed Asher for this. He blamed him for putting Elizabeth in this situation in the first place.

What she had passed through in his hands and that of the council of elders was enough for her to want to escape with her baby. Alex couldn’t quite understand why Asher had put a poor innocent woman to this much stress right till the very moment she delivered. It was absurd and barbaric to say the least.

He thought about the times Elizabeth had run to him literally in tears especially on the days when Asher was hell bent on hurting her. She was sad, dejected and weak to even cry. In those moments, he had been the one to assure her that everything would be fine even when he didn’t believe it himself.

“I’m leaving tonight, with or without your help “ Elizabeth said, breaking into his thoughts.

Alex sighed, shutting the door behind him. It was time to talk and the best time to do it was now, not later. He walked towards her, standing in front of her as he stared at her sleeping child before looking deep into her eyes.

In it was all the pain she was holding, everything she was holding back was embedded in her glowing green eyes and each time he stares at them, it felt like he was looking at a familiar place.

A place he would like to make his home but now is not the time. At that point, the only thing he knew he could do was assure her that everything would be fine. He was going to make sure of it.

“There are some things i should have told you before but couldn’t but i need to do that now if you would let me” Alex sighed.

Elizabeth stared deep into his eyes and knew, whatever he was about to say must be very important. She had never seen Alex look so serious and lost all at the same time before.

“Can we sit and talk?” he asked, nodding towards the only chair in the room and she sighed before going over to seat on it.

Beth didn’t know why she agreed to it but it was probably because of the sincere look he had in his eyes. Alex had never looked so believing like he did then and she knew that was the main reason she decided to give him a listening ear.

While she sat with a raised brow at his direction, Alex decided to perch by the edge of the bed facing her.

“Alright, let’s hear it” Elizabeth said.

“I don’t know if Asher told you why he left but he did it for you and his son. he wants to go replace help so he can sort out this issue between you and the council of elders for once” Alex said.

“I know but I doubt he will let me go even after that. Asher will never let me leave and especially not with my son either”

Alex sighed, adjusting on the bed, Alex knew Elizabeth has a point there. He could remember how many times he already suggested for her to be let go but Asher would never consider it. And it’s just like she said, the possibility of Asher letting her go with his son is zero.

“I don’t know it’s hard to believe Elizabeth considering what Asher has done but you’ve got to trust that things will be alright” Alex said.

Thinking about it now, Elizabeth knew he was right but still, her heart and her mind didn’t want to believe what he was saying. There was nothing no one could tell her that could change her mind concerning Asher.

Several times, she had wanted to believe that whatever Asher was doing was for her benefit but he had broken that trust time and time again. There was absolutely nothing that would ever make her believe him again.

His words and actions towards her was something she could never forget in a hurry and if Alex had not walked in on her trying to escape, she would have gotten away with this.

Just then, his phone gave a loud beep in his pocket which indicated a new message. Elizabeth arched a brow. Not once has she seen anyone with a cellphone around here or was it that, they always made sure to keep it out of sight anytime they were around her.

The look on his face as he looked at the screen of his phone told her it was probably urgent or serious. Seems Alex was in charge now that Asher had left the pack for him to run.

“Sorry Beth, I have to attend to this’’ he murmured as he got back on his feet and stroll towards the window.

Elizabeth let out a deep breath, relaxing more on the chair as she stared around.

“At the border?” Alex asked into the receiver, startling her.

The tone of his voice had Elizabeth whipping her head towards him. It was urgent and frantic but the look on his face spoke of a danger.

“Alright, observe the situation. I’ll be there soon” He said before ending the call.

Alex sighed, placing his phone back into his pocket. There was a frown on his face as he tried to come to terms with what he just heard on the phone. It was disturbing to say the least but what he was discussing with Elizabeth was important.

“is everything alright Alex?” Elizabeth asked.

She was getting worried about it now and she really hoped it was something that could be taken care of. If not, they were all in trouble.

“It’s fine. There was a small disturbance at the border but it will be taken care of although, i’ll have to go over to look at it” Alex said.

Elizabeth heaved a sigh of relief before nodding before he squatted beside her.

“Promise you won’t risk another escape once you are left alone again?”

Her lips parted slightly but no word made it out. She didn’t want to make a promise she is likely not to keep. If not tonight, maybe tomorrow, another day until she is finally out of there but certainly not going to give up.

“Alright then, since you won’t make me one. I want to make you a promise” Alex said.

Elizabeth looked up, staring at him. In his eyes was all the assurance she needed and she found herself narrowing at him.

“What promise Alex” she asked curiously.

“I promise, i’ll help you escape if Asher fails to come back without help or refused to let you go” Alex said firmly.

Elizabeth didn’t know if she could believe him but at that point, she doesn’t have much of a choice. He had no reason to lie, he had proven to her over again that he could be trusted especially in the way he had helped her in the past.

“Alright Alex. I believe you” Elizabeth said with a smile

Alex heaved a sigh of relief. He took her hands in his, giving it a gentle squeeze before getting back on his feet and out the door.
