Chapter 94

“I will leave if you want me to but I just need you to know how I truly feels. I do love you and that’s no jokes” Alex said once again with desperation.

Elizabeth only stared at him in shock as memory from their conversation start to flood back to her mind. Alex had hinted about being in love with someone else, hence his reason for not considering Izzy.

Not once did she imagined the person he was in love with to be her. It’s true he had always being nice and caring towards her but never did it occur to her that she was the one he wanted to claim.

The thought of being claimed by him simply gives her the chills as she couldn’t help but put more distance between them.

“Please say something, Beth. Would you give me a chance?” He asked quietly. His eyes filled with hope as he stares back at her.

“I’m sorry but i only see you as a friend and a brother, nothing more.” Elizabeth said, shaking her head.

“please listen to me, I know, all of these might sounds awkward but I don’t care. I’ve always had this feeling in my heart since the first time I saw you and even though I didn’t plan to act on it, I just can’t keep it in anymore. I even tried to stop myself from feelings all these emotions towards you but spending each day with you had me weak in the knee. I’m not that strong as not to say it out and I can only hope you also feel the same for me too”

Beth paused him with her finger.

“Enough Alex, please this is so not right, I’m sorry okay, I’m really sorry to break your heart, I know you one of the best people around here. You have been taking good care of me and my son and you even stood up for me against everyone else and even went against your elders”

“Elizabeth, please” Alex begged but She wasn’t done talking.

“Which shows that you are an incredible person, you are absolutely the type that every girl will love to have, and spending time with you confirm how sweet you are, but it isn’t about all of this. I’m sorry for all this long speeches but as I said earlier, I only sees you as a friend who has been protecting me from getting slaughtered or hanged to death, and as a brother who always be with me and support me, I really don’t want to hurt you and I don’t want our relationship to get ruin because of this. I hope you understand me.” Elizabeth said firmly with hands clasped before her, staring at the broken man before her.

Elizabeth has never seen Alex so heartbroken, he never looked so down and sad like this but what can she do? Even if she choose him now, she can’t think of living with him forever, he has done so much for her but in the process of making him happy she can’t destroy her own happiness forever, she can never ever see Alex more than a friend.

It was minutes of awkward silence for the both of them as Alex only faced the ground while Beth was waiting for an answer.

“Alex, please I’m sorry, talk to me, say something.” Elizabeth pleaded.

“What should I say Beth? I’m so ashamed of myself right now, I was so foolish not to control my feelings. I guess I should have really kept it to myself but I’m glad I told you” he said shortly before looking up at her with a little smile.

“Beth ,you are the first person my heart has beaten for after I lost my mate and even though I was afraid you might reject whatever I was feeling, I just wanted you to know because my heart will always flutter at the sound of your innocent laughter, but I don’t want you to mind any of the words I said to you, I was crazy, very crazy” He said with a sad smile.

Beth was tempted to reach for him and probably comfort him but instead had her hands clenched into fist by her side. She didn’t want to add more to his pain.

“I’m really sorry Beth, I’m so stupid, I let my feelings get the best of me.” Alex apologies looking down, shoulder slumped in defeat.

Beth felt a stink of pain in her heart as she continued to stare at him, “Look at me Alex”

Alex’s eyes barely held hers before it darted away once again.

“You can’t look at me anyone?”

“well I can’t”

“It’s okay than but I hope you know nothing has changed in the way I saw you before now because I already cleared the confession you made in my mind, considering the fact that, nothing ever happened and you never said anything, I just hope that you can do that as well”

“ You are even stronger than I thought, Beth” he said with a chuckle.

She answered with a shrug, “I try to be sometimes”

Alex nodded and her eyes darted towards her baby cot and then back at him.

“Will you still be by our side? I mean, will the rejection cause you to stop looking after my son and I?”

“That will never happen Beth; you are my responsibility, you and your son so why will I ever leave you? No reason, absolutely nothing will change between us. I will always take care of you like forever until Asher is back.” Alex said firmly and she smiled in appreciation.

“Thank you so much Alex.” Beth replied and Alex smiled back at her, then excused himself out the door.

She let out a deep sigh the moment he was completely out of sight. Beth already knew that she can never erase his words out of her head and he can never be the same in her eyes again.

Meanwhile…

Alex sat on the couch in his room almost close to tears at his rejection. He couldn’t keep it in even if he tried. All he ever wanted was Beth, even though he already knew that was close to impossible but he never thought he could mess up big time by telling her.

The plan was never to let her know but to set her free first but now she already does and it didn’t turn out so great.

“What was I even thinking? That she will accept it? Damn it.” He g*****d out in frustration.

It was never his intention to put Beth in a very hard and complicated situation, It was his heart that caused him all this, upon all the girls he could have looked at his heart choose to love someone who isn’t his to claim.

Was it because he was cursed or just blind to the truth. Even though she doesn’t want him, he was going to wait because at that point, what should be important is she and her son’s safety.

After everything that had happened that day at the council hall, he knew he had to be extra vigilant and careful. Elder Marcus and his co hort doesn’t seem like they are about to give up anytime soon and he had to be ready at all time.

Alex let out a sigh, everything is becoming deeper than he thought it would ever be.

Elizabeth lay in bed later that night but couldn’t sleep. Whenever she closed her eyes, the memories of Alex kissing her makes her feel worse than worst. She shouldn’t have hugged him and kissed him on the cheek.

If she knew that was going to trigger a reaction from him then she really would have refrain from doing so and now she can’t even close her eyes without thinking about him.

She began to trace her middle finger across her lips slightly and then sighed before turning on her side.

What happened made her to miss Alpha Asher more than ever, she only wish he comes back early so she won’t have to hurt Alex anymore, and she won’t continue to feel awkward living with him.

Sometimes it only takes a word to change everything, it only takes a word to fix everything, and it also takes a word to destroy everything._ Alex confession only destroyed whatever she sees him as before and somehow, she still feels guilty for hurting him without even meaning to.

He has been really helpful and caring but she just couldn’t allow herself to feel anything for him. Part of her still want to go home and leave everything about this people behind or is it because she was hoping to get someone else’s love.

She was about to drift into a peaceful slumber after another more minute of tossing around when she heard gentle knock on the door, causing her to jerk upright.

“Who is it?” She questioned, her heart starting to pound within her chest.

“It’s me, Alex. Can I come in?”

At the sound of his name, she let out a breath she didn’t realize she was holding in before her eyes narrowed once more in confusion, still staring at the door.

It was past midnight already, what could he possibly want?

Elizabeth grabbed another robe and quickly pulled it on before strolling over to the door to unlock it. Alex was leaning against the opposite wall and pushed himself back on his feet at her presence.

“Alex” She called curiously.

“Sorry to wake you up but can I come in?”

Elizabeth was hesitant for a moment as she stood staring at the wall behind him. She was about to refuse him before she heard her baby crying and quickly nodded before walking back to attend to it.

She was about to carry him when Alex quickly offered.

“I can carry him for you so you rest”

Beth gave him a quick shoulder glance, “And what about you? Shouldn’t you be resting as well? It’s almost midnight already”

“I already did and besides, I need to stay here tonight just to make sure you don’t get unwelcome visitors when you least expected”

Her eyes widen in realization at his words. “Do you mean, we are under attack?”

“I’m not sure but just to be on the safe side, I will just stay for tonight”

Beth wasn’t sure if it was a good idea to let him sleep over but she agreed anyways.

“Okay”

Alex walked over and stood before her, “Alright, now give him to me and lay down and rest”

Beth gave her son a k**s before handing him over. Alex watched her as she walked over to the bed before lying on it, he tried to take his eyes and mind off her but he can’t stop admiring her still. The thought of her was already embedded in his mind and it will take a miracle for him to actually forget about her.

While Alex continued to cradle the baby in his arms back to sleep, Elizabeth pretended to be asleep. Somehow she still felt uneasy around him and it’s going to take a while getting comfortable around him again.

She saw Alex coming towards her and quickly closed her eyes and pretended to be sleeping. He leaned over and then gently placed the baby by her side before moving away towards the couch and she let out a breath before cuddling her baby to her chest.
