Agent Fox watched as Alyona made her way towards Consigliere Nestor. Fear gripped him immediately! He suddenly believed that she was there to tell Nestor everything. He couldn’t risk Nestor replaceing out about Mariyanna’s actions, and yet he knew that there was nothing he could do.

Since Alyona had not seen him yet, he concealed himself behind a pillar. The only problem was that Nestor was looking directly at him, and he prayed that Nestor would not call out to him.

“Hey, get down now!” Nestor yelled the moment he saw a man draw out a gun. It was too late; before Taleela could duck, a loud sound exploded from the weapon.

Then it was accompanied by another bang. The man looked down and saw a hole drilled into his abdominal wall. Then he dropped to his knees, and Nestor released another shot which blasted right through the man’s skull. Agent Fox had fled unseen by anyone except for Nestor as soon as the drama unfolded.

“It’s alright; the bullet only grazed your neck!” Nestor said. Alyona was bleeding and was clearly in pain when Nestor came to aid her. He took off his shirt and applied pressure to her wound.

“Am I going to die?” Alyona managed to speak, with her voice and body trembling.

“Nonsense!” Nestor said firmly and added, “you’re the daughter of the great Ivan Makarov, heiress to his empire, and not even a shot to the head could kill you. Just hold on; we will get you to a hospital soon.”

“Thanks,” said Alyona, as her life flashed between her eyes. She wondered if this was how she would die because the pain felt like she would not make it despite Nestor’s encouraging words.

The situation wasn’t as dire as one would imagine. Nestor didn’t need all the men flooding into the scene. He knew he had to act smartly because he didn’t want anyone to know of Alyona’s return. There were still things he was yet to understand.

“You there fetch me a driver!” Nestor commanded one of the soldiers as he did his best to hide Alyona’s face. “The rest of you spread out and look for his accomplice.”

The soldiers scattered in every direction in pursuit of an invincible enemy. Nestor thought it was a bit strange the way agent Fox had fled. The agent knew Alyona, so he wondered why he was running rather than helping out.

Although it had been a long while, the agent still worked with Mariyanna the last time he checked. Nestor couldn’t trust Mariyanna enough to let her know he had found her sister. Mariyanna had always been jealous that she didn’t have her father’s love and attention the way Alyona did.

Also, now that she was Don, he knew she knew that only he and Alyona could see that Ivan’s will was carried out. He wondered if Agent Fox was on his way to make an announcement. He would have gone after the man, but Alyona needed him.

The other soldier returned shortly afterward with the driver. Since he was relatively new and was recruited after the disappearance of Alyona, Nestor didn’t worry about him being around or rattling them out.

“Do you need help getting her in?” said the soldier as Nestor tried to put Alyona into the waiting car.

“Yes,” Nestor replied and turned to Alyona. “I need you to apply pressure on this as I take my hands off.”

“Who’s she?” the soldier asked.

“A friend,” Nestor said, getting into the back seat with Alyona. “Join the others, locate the enemy!”

“It can’t be,” said the driver. “That’s Alyona! Why was she shot?”

“That’s what I’ve been asking myself, but I think I’m not far from the answer. With a personality like hers, I’m not surprised some would wish not to see her as Don.”

“Who do you believe is responsible for such an act? It’s insane!” the driver said as he slammed the car into more speed.

“It’s insane, I know, but I don’t know, so I’m keeping her return a secret. I don’t want the boss or Olga to know about her. She’s losing consciousness! It would help if you drove faster.”

Alyona could still make out what the men were talking about, and it was about her. She understood that they were referring to her by the name Alyona. She wondered who was the boss they were referring to and who the hell Olga was. However, she gathered a piece of very vital information from their conversation, and she concluded that Nestor wasn’t lying about her.

Alonso’s head began to whirl as soon as he had heard what Taleela had done. Rather than think that his mate could be in danger, he was more upset that she had fled off right after coming in contact with the enemy. He was angered by what he perceived as betrayal.

The security guards who kept watch over her had reported to him the incident at the restaurant with Nestor. He had even seen the footage. He was back at the Casino, and Mazza was with him in the administrator’s office.

Alonso inhaled sharply and said, “If what they say is true, then there’s no doubt that Taleela is indeed Alyona, Ivan’s lost daughter! This is truly unacceptable, granddad. I told you from the beginning that we shouldn’t accommodate her, but you wouldn’t listen.”

“Relax, I believe Taleela means no harm!” Mazza said defensively. “I’m sure of it! I’m sure she was just curious to know who she was. It was probably instincts that drove her out. We should be more concerned for her well-being.”

“I was merely concerned for her, but she has jeopardized my trust and care by running off alone. What should I do? Chase after her?”

“Yes, Alonso,” replied Mazza.

“What if, all along, she had planned to lure us into a trap!”

“Don’t be a fool, son,” Mazza said, “We both know that she doesn’t know shit about what happened to her. How do you explain the attacks made on her life?”

“All the more reason I say we stay out of this,” Alonso argued. “She alone and her goddamn father knows who they crossed that would want her dead.”

“So you’re going to fold your hands and watch your mate die?” Mazza said, nodding. “I’m sure your mother would be very pleased.”

“Why are you so sensitive about her?” Alonso asked, eyes flaming up in anger and frustration. Mazza rarely challenged him by bringing up his mother.

“You have the Marcovic b***d in you, but you’re also your mother’s child!” Mazza said with a very calm voice. “We have trouble accepting a woman’s love, so I swore to her that I’ll make sure your case is different. It was her dying wish. And I will not stand by and watch you squirm like a girl because you have the same lovelessness your father and I share in our DNA.”

“I can’t forgive her because she has betrayed me!”

“You don’t know that for sure, Alonso; we don’t understand why she left yet.”

While they were still arguing, the door swung wide open, and Vincenzo walked in confidently.

“Forgive me, boss, but I have urgent news!”

“Speak,” said Mazza.

“Taleela has been shot, and her wound is mortal!” Vincenzo said straightforwardly. “She was spotted being carried out of the Makarov estate earlier. I’m sure it’s her.”

“What do you mean by that?” Alonso asked, feeling sick.

“Sir, my source said he saw Nestor leaving the estate with a mortally wounded woman! Red hair, but we all know that was the wig put on by Taleela to fool the security men we left her with.”

“Oh, please don’t remind me of that!” Alonso snapped.

“I’m sorry, sir,” Vincenzo said, bowing.

“If Nestor has her, I’m sure he can handle things from here henceforth!” Alonso said with an air of finality lingering in his tone.

“May I offer my suggestion,” Piccolo said with his thick voice, entering the office. He had been outside the whole time, observing.

“Go ahead, son,” Mazza said.

“Alonso, I get that you’re upset, but right now, we owe it to Taleela to look for her. We don’t know what Nestor plans on doing with her the moment he finishes treating her, and we can’t just abandon her.”

“We shouldn’t abandon her for any reason,” said Vincenzo. “She’s your mate Alonso; what does it matter where she comes from? It’s not like she had a choice what family she would be born into.”

“You still think I’m making a mistake?” Mazza said, drawing closer to his grandson. He gripped him by the elbow.

“Fine, we look for her, but once we replace her, I’m treating her as an enemy. I don’t care if she is in bad shape.”

Lies, Mazza could hear the irregular rhythm of Alonso’s heartbeat. He knew his grandson was worried. Mazza knew a guilty conscience overcame his grandson. How could he live with himself knowing that he had ordered the execution of his mate’s father? But it was no fault of his. Alonso, at the time, had no clue.

“I’ll speak to Nestor at once and reason with him, Consigliere to Consigliere!” Piccolo said. “Taleela would be brought back to us safely.”

“I am not worried about that,” Alonso said.

Mariyanna had contacted Olga Sidovora to station someone who would be ready to make a kill if Alyona had shown up. She hadn’t capitalized on Nestor interfering.

Agent Fox was with her, and they had decided that it was best they took Nestor out of the picture before he caused them any more trouble.
