The Alpha Mafia King -
Chapter 68
They had just arrived at the casino with Alonzo ascending a short flight of stairs, crossing the security guards when Bianco doubled his pace to catch up with him.
“Hey, boss, boss,” he said, sounding desperate, and Alonzo braked.
“What is it, Bianco?” Alonzo said, revealing his surprise at being stopped abruptly.
“I- I wanted to apologize and congratulate you properly. I’m sorry I got emotionally overwhelmed when I heard about your baby. I’m genuinely happy for you, Don Alonzo.”
Alonzo sighed, then tucked his right hand into his pocket and said, “Bianco, I’m not offended. Thanks for showing me that you still have some shreds of humanity left in that thick wolf skin of yours.”
To this comment, Bianco chuckled.
“Alright, boss, good to know!” Bianco replied with a smile.
Alonzo returned his smile and was about to keep moving, but he hesitated and said, “Bianco, please do me a favor, would you?”
“Sure, anything, boss.”
“Please replace my grandfather and inform him that I wish to see him immediately in the administrator’s office.”
“Alright, sir, will do.” Bianco inhaled, locating Mazza’s scent, and began following it like a hypnotized stoner.
Alonzo crossed over to the elevator. He passed a lot of beautiful ladies who smiled at him, and he shook his head. A wealthy and successful man like him should have surrounded himself with as many of these women, but no, he didn’t; instead, he avoided women like the plague because he had this idea that most women were deceitful.
The elevator’s bell chimed, the door opened, and Alonzo got in. He punched the floor number and waited as the machine took him straight to his office floor. The bell chimed again, and this time he stepped out. Except for a few soldiers, this place was almost empty. They saluted Alonzo as he marched into the administrator’s office.
Sitting in his kingly chair, Alonzo reached for his office phone on the mahogany desk, which was clustered with many other items.
“Uh, I need some of our finest wines brought up to my office immediately, and also, please help me pass across a message to the kitchen to have someone bring a large amount of protein.”
By saying protein, he meant lots of meat.
He looked at the wide screen in his office that showed the different parts of the casino overlooked by security cameras. He saw the way the barman hurried to perform his duties.
He also saw Mazza, Bianco, and Vincenzo approaching his office. Why the hell was Piccolo taking an eternity to get here? He couldn’t start the party without his best friend, consigliere, and Beta.
“Ehi Pico, dove sei?”
“I’m almost there; I got stuck in traffic.”
“You know you’d get here faster if you ran,” Alonzo said.
“Surely you are not suggesting now that I should ditch the Aston Martin Dragon, are you? Because if you are, then I think I need to remind you that only three of these babies exist gladly.”
The mention of the word “babies” gave Alonzo thrills.
“No, I’m not asking you to do such a thing; get your a*s here asap, or I’m starting without you.”
Alonzo ended the call immediately after the door to his office was thrown wide open by his grandfather. He was one out of the three people who could dare to come into his office without knocking.
“Well, have you summoned me to gloat about how you killed Alyona?”
“Better than that, grandpapa,” Alonzo declared boldly. “I’ve called to inform you that you will soon be a great grandpapa.”
Mazza looked as if he was the victim of an ambush. He turned to Bianco and Vincenzo, realizing they had known all along what Alonzo would tell him.
“Wow, um, I’m speechless,” Mazza began. “I’m confused. Didn’t you want to kill Alyona for betraying you?”
“Alyona did betray me, but not for the reason I thought,” Alonzo said, pausing to allow the man to sit down.
“Go on,” Mazza said, nodding.
Alonzo took his time to explain.
“Wow, congratulations to us, father and great grandfather!” Mazza declared happily. “This calls for a celebration.”
“Of course, everything we need is on the way!” Alonzo said.
“So boss, when will you mark her as your mate?” Vincenzo asked.
“Yeah, boss, when will you tell her about your secret?” Bianco followed.
Alonzo threw his head backward and exhaled through his mouth.
“I don’t know if I should,” Alonzo said, more as an answer to himself than to those who had asked.
“What do you mean? Of course, you should tell her!” Bianco said, beating his right arm in the air for added emphasis.
“Yeah, I support Bianco on that one,” Vincenzo said.
Alonzo looked at his grandfather and asked, “Grandad, what’s your take?”
Mazza cleared his throat briefly before answering, “I will suggest you play around with the idea with her and see what her reaction will be.”
“You know, granddad, you would have made a great consigliere,” Alonzo said.
“Well, in that case, we could swap.” Everyone turned their focus in the direction of the door where Piccolo stood. He let himself in and took his seat majestically.
“You are late,” Alonzo said.
Piccolo shrugged, “I’m sorry; what did I miss?”
“Where is Leonardo?”
Piccolo scratched his head and said, “Um, he’s downstairs, thrilled to be inside the casino finally; I thought this was a meeting of the inner circle only?”
“It is, but Leonardo is now a part of the inner circle,” Alonzo said.
“Alright, let me call him up,” Piccolo said, reaching for his phone.
“Put that thing away,” Alonzo said. “I’ve made the call.”
“Oh, that is badass, Alonzo; I guess telepathy is also faster than a phone call,” Piccolo said, laughing, and the others joined him.
Moments later, Leonardo found himself in the administrator’s office. He wondered how Alonzo had been able to summon him in his head. Bianco was supposed to be showing him stuff he needed to know as a werewolf, but there had hardly been any time for that.
Alonzo had not gotten the chance to address the death of Jerald adequately. Earlier, he had envisioned a moment like this where everyone would gather to share their grief for the fallen capo. He never imagined that he would be throwing a party instead.
As Jerald’s corpse waited in a morgue to be cremated the following day, he still would like to say a few words concerning the man.
Alonzo knocked on his desk, drawing everyone’s attention.
Having gained their interest and silence, he said, “It saddens me that at such a moment as this, I’ll bring this up, yet I can’t think of a better time.
“The saddest thing a pack can experience is losing one of its members. Jerald was an inner circle member. The news of his death has had such a profound impact on me that I chose not to believe that he was really gone. Seeing how we are gathered here without him has forced me to accept the harsh reality.
“What do we say to those who will never walk with us again?”
“May the moon goddess receive your soul, and may the light of your soul guide our path that we may never walk in darkness again,” everyone chorused except for Leonardo.
“Don’t worry, kid,” Piccolo said, “You will learn our sacred words soon.”

Callisto was laughing.
“Fools,” he said. “The party will soon be over.”
Jamie had just updated him after serving drinks to Alonzo and his pack mates. Alonzo had allowed him to work for him after he had saved Alyona’s life.
His patience had run out for Alonzo. It was finally time to take him out. He coughed, spitting b***d into a napkin.
He felt he was too kind, letting the joy of fatherhood that would never take place to be celebrated.
By the following morning, Alonzo would be in so much peril. It was only fitting to allow him to taste joy before the great bitterness.
Whereas other people were enduring the night and hoping for the joy often associated with morning, Alonzo would be experiencing this in reverse.
Mariyanna was calling agent Fox’s phone again. She, too, had outlived her usefulness. He contemplated how best to take care of her.
“Not yet; she still has one last role to play!” Callisto’s wolf said.
Antonio welcomed Mariyanna into the house.
“Where is Fox?” Mariyanna said, suddenly feeling like she had made the mistake of coming to this hell hole.
“He’s out with the others,” Antonio said.
“Others? What’s going on?”
“My father will brief you,” Antonio said. “Wait here.”
Maybe it was his body language that gave him away or the fact that Antonio wasn’t an excellent liar; Mariyanna sensed that something was wrong. She dialed Agent Fox’s number, and behold, it rang within the premises.
She bolted as soon as she heard shuffling feet coming her way. She could hear the feet picking up pace, and she prayed to the Lord to save her.
