The Alpha Mafia King -
Chapter 70
There was a silent break on the line. Alonzo was thinking about what to say or do next.
Callisto hummed softly into the phone.
“I knew our fight wasn’t over, Callisto, but you’ve crossed the line,” Alonzo said, interrupting the humming sound Callisto was making.
“Yes, it was anything but over, and you see everyone you love will be caught in the middle of our war. Like the killing of Bianco’s mate, who much like yours was expecting a child, gosh, I have waited for far too long to claim credit for that kill.”
“Callisto, I shouldn’t have spared your life that night,” Alonzo said, sounding sour.
“Neither should I. Although, I deliberately let you live this long so that your power can be at maximum when we fight, and this time I will crush you, claim that power, and become a true alpha.”
“You will never become a true alpha.”
“Why are we wasting time talking? You have a decision to make. You have twenty-five minutes. And oh, one more thing, if there’s any suspicious exiting the building en masse, the bombs will detonate.”
“I swear to God if you harm-“
Before Alonzo could say another word, he heard the disconnection tone. He stared at the phone in his hand as if he could shoot lasers from his eyes, and it would hurt Callisto wherever he was.
“F**k!” Alonzo roared, rising.
Alonzo began to navigate through the corridor to the administrator’s office. As he was going, he called his grandfather and Piccolo to inform them to meet him immediately. He phoned Bianco, asking him to replace Jamie.
Alonzo ended the call with Bianco with a sigh. He paused by the elevator while he made another call. This time it was to the head of the security team in the casino.
As he waited for the man to answer the call, his mind linked with Leonardo and Vincenzo telling them about the meeting.
Finally, the lines connected!
“Hello, Andre,” Alonzo said, out of breath. “Uh, I have just received words about a series of bombs planted inside the casino, and there’s a probability that the bombs could go off in twenty-something minutes. How fast can your team perform a sweep and diffuse them?”
“Sir, that depends on how many bombs we are talking about. Besides, around here, I’m the only one experienced enough with explosives. I mean, I could patch my team through and tell them what to do after locating the explosives, but might I suggest a full-scale evacuation first.”
Logically that would’ve been the best thing to do, but Callisto had anticipated that, and somehow he claimed that he could know if they attempted it.
“We can’t do that because the terrorist says he will detonate the bombs once he notices any evacuation process.”
Probably Jamie would be Callisto’s informant and also the one who planted the bombs, which was why he had asked Bianco to replace him.
Andre heaved a sigh and said, “Alright, then I will have some of my men perform a low-key evacuation. The rest of the team will work on replaceing and deactivating the explosives.”
“Thank you, Andre,” Alonzo said, ending the call and punching a button on the elevator. The elevator’s door slid open, and Alonzo got in, riding it up to his office.
In a short while, everyone was gathered in the Administrator’s office. Most of them were still cladded in their nightly wear.
“We are under attack,” Alonzo said once everyone had assembled. “A bomb will likely go off in less than fifteen minutes if I don’t do what I’ve been told.”
“A bomb here?” Piccolo asked, sounding surprised.
“Yes,” Alonzo replied, his eyes darting from one man to another. “Callisto wants me to ask Alyona to meet with someone that wants to kidnap her. He plans on kidnapping her and the baby. And he said if she isn’t out in twenty-five minutes, then this whole place will go up in flames, just as he did with the La Corporation De Sina.”
“Yeah, but then this is much worse,” Vincenzo said. “We have so many people inside the casino. If Callisto follows through with his threat, we are talking about multiple deaths and injuries.”
Alonzo nodded.
“Who the hell is Callisto?” Leonardo asked, not appreciating the fact that he felt lost in their conversation.
Piccolo sighed, rolled his eyes, and answered, “Callisto is some a*****e we should have gotten rid of years ago. He is a werewolf and an alpha—Alonzo’s arch-enemy.”
“F**k, maybe we should warn Alyona,” Bianco said.
“And then what?” Alonzo said. “If she doesn’t show up, Callisto will set off the bomb.”
Who cares? Bianco thought. He was worried about Alyona because she was pregnant with Alonzo’s child, and he didn’t want anything bad happening to her, even if it meant everyone else died.
“And what is to say that the bastard would not set off the bomb the minute he has Alyona?” Piccolo asked.
Alonzo, who had been standing, leaned on his desk for support, feeling a fresh wave of frustration wash over him.
“He got us cornered,” Mazza said thoughtfully. “But there’s one thing we can’t afford to do now, which is waste any more time.”
“Yes, your grandfather is right, Alonzo; we can’t afford inaction,” Piccolo said. “Get Alyona on the line. Meanwhile, while you are at it, shouldn’t we be evacuating everyone else?”
“I’m afraid we can’t afford a mass evacuation,” Alonzo said.
“Why? Is it because you are worried that there might be a stampede?” Piccolo inquired.
“No, not that,” Alonzo said, discarding the idea with a wave of his hand. “Part of Callisto’s threat was that if he notices a mass evacuation, the bombs will detonate.”
“How would he know that?” Leonardo pointed out.
“Yes, how?” Mazza said, cupping his mouth with his palm.
“My bet is there is someone around watching,” Piccolo said. “Most likely, it’s one of Callisto’s werewolves. Why don’t Bianco and I scout the area?”
“Fine, do that,” Alonzo said. “I’ll make the call to Alyona now.”
At that moment, everyone froze to watch as Alonzo made the call. It was over in less than two minutes. Alonzo had started the conversation sounding unsure about how to proceed, then he went on to lie so smoothly, and they knew that Alyona would be out to meet soon with her kidnapper in a few more minutes.
“So what now?” Alonzo said.
“As I said, Bianco and I will scout the area,” Piccolo said. “You might want to call Callisto back to hear what he wants. Every kidnapper has something to ask.”
“Isn’t it obvious?” Alonzo said.
“What is?” Mazza asked.
“Nothing; if you’ll excuse me, I have to take a breather,” Alonzo said, leaving the office.
Bianco and Piccolo followed him, but they veered off in another direction.
Alonzo went to the ground floor, where most of the casino’s games were situated. He took a seat and watched as everyone gambled cheerfully. He checked his watch and saw that he had used up ten minutes out of the twenty-five minutes Callisto had given him.
His phone began to buzz, and he saw that it was Andre who was calling. It took him long enough!
“Speak,” Alonzo sneered.
“I just located one of the bombs in the gaming center,” Andre said. “We have a problem because there are too many eyes watching, and if I should get to work on deactivating the bomb, someone will notice and draw attention. What do you propose, boss?”
“Keep the spot marked and proceed to replace the rest bombs,” Alonzo said. “Good work Andre,” he added.
From where Alonzo was sitting, he could see Andre. Yeah, the man had been right about someone being able to notice him.
Alonzo took a deep breath and exhaled through his mouth. He could not afford to let any harm come to Alyona. Alonzo couldn’t call Callisto back because he had called with a private number. Also, he had no idea where Callisto wanted to take her.
Alonzo had a gut feeling that Callisto would summon him to the location Alyona would be carried to, asking him to come unarmed and alone.
He called Vincenzo.
“Vincenzo, do we still have any insider in the Makarov family?”
“We do,” Vincenzo replied. “What are you thinking?”
“I need him to follow the car Alyona would be in for me,” Alonzo replied.
“Already done that,” Vincenzo said. “He has a visual on the waiting car, but Alyona isn’t out yet.”
What? He prayed she didn’t delay much in coming out.
“Alright, now I need you to hook Piccolo up with the tracker so that he too can follow them,” Alonzo said.
“Yes, Don.”
Great! Alonzo thought.
Alonzo felt less bothered, knowing that by the time Alyona got to where Callisto was, he would have pinpointed their exact location. Also, he would have had his best werewolf fighter, his beta, positioned strategically.
Now, it seemed all that remained was for Alyona to join the driver and wait for Callisto to call him back.
As for the bombs, the security team was still locating them. However, Alonzo couldn’t guarantee their success in nullifying the bombs, so he had to appear to be obeying Callisto’s rule.

Meanwhile, Antonio had been waiting for Alyona to come and join him for the ride. He lifted his head and saw her coming his way. She looked stunning. He got out of the car to wait by the passenger side for her.
“Hello,” Alyona said as she got to him. He was holding the door open for her.
“Hi,” Antonio said with the most charming smile.
