The Alpha Mafia King -
Chapter 76
So the big day was approaching, and it was going to be eventful in the sense that the royal pack was going to host a wrestling match between the other pack’s alphas, lunas, betas, gamma, and even the omegas.
Alonzo gathered with his pack mates in a privately owned hotel of one of his associates.
The evening breeze was gentle on their skins even though they had a mini banquet on the hotel’s rooftop, where it was undoubtedly most windy. Alonzo shuddered at how the size of his pack had reduced to just four men. Also, it surprised Alonzo how his was the only pack that seemed to be lacking any females.
“So boss Alonzo,” Bianco’s voice filtered gently into his ear. “Are you ready for the big fight tomorrow?”
Alonzo shrugged, and he tilted his wine glass towards Bianco. “It’s just a silly wrestling tournament. But um, yeah, sure.”
Alonzo was confident he would make it to the last round. He just wondered who he’d be up against in the final battle between the alphas.
“I heard there is a cash prize for the winners in each category,” Piccolo chipped in.
“What, where did you hear that?” Vincenzo asked.
“Pico caught the fancy of one of the royal pack ladies, and she’s been his informant ever since,” Alonzo said.
“Right, tell them, boss!” Piccolo said proudly.
“No way a royalty would look your way, Pico!” Bianco roared.
“Wait and see for yourself tomorrow then,” Piccolo said, smiling with contentment.
“Damn, that’s good news for real,” Vincenzo said. “But have you kissed her? Are you guys dating?”
“What? No! We are taking things nice and slow.” Piccolo spilled some wine on himself as he lifted the wine glass to sip from the fullness.
“That’s boring,” Vincenzo said. “I’ve just been thinking about how our pack lacks females and all.”
“We don’t lack females,” Piccolo argued firmly. “It’s just that all the females in our pack are either dead or turned into somebody’s ex.”
“Ahem, that’s too dark, Pico,” Vincenzo said. He could relate to it, which was why he felt so. His mate had broken up with him, and ever since, he had no luck with women.
“Very dark,” Bianco said. He was another victim of Piccolo’s dark humor.
“Leo, are you good?” Alonzo asked while munching on some delicious beef. He was the only one who, although affected by Piccolo’s words, paid no mind to it.
“Yeah, I uh, I’m good,” Leonardo answered coolly, looking up from his phone. “Just waiting for y’all to finish talking before announcing to y’all that the pack isn’t entirely void of women because I have a girlfriend.”
“Ah, I see,” Alonzo said, looking thoughtful for a second. “Is she the reason for your silence?”
“Yes,” Leonardo admitted with a smile, dangling his phone carelessly in the air for a few seconds.
“The moment you tell her about us, let her know she is welcome and a part of the family.”
“Just like that?” Leonardo’s jaw drops in surprise.
“Just like that, Leo.” Alonzo smiled toothily.
“You won’t test her or something?” Leonardo continued, still sounding unsure.
“That’s your responsibility, man,” Piccolo helped explain. “You see, as a man, you should be able to evaluate your partner and know how much you can and should divulge to them. Having said that, let me warn you, we place our faith in you, which extends to those you call friends, but don’t be deluded into thinking they can’t be touched if they say go against us.”
“Very well explained, Pico, thanks,” Alonzo said.
“Well then, you have my assurance that I don’t keep lousy friends.” Leonardo sighed softly.
“That’s good,” Piccolo mumbled.
“I know you haven’t had time to train, but would you like to participate in the fight amongst the omega’s tomorrow?” Alonzo continued to engage Leonardo in further discussion.
“There’d be no contest if I don’t partake in it,” Leonardo said. “Besides, Bianco and I already did some sparring recently.”
“Really?” Alonzo turned to Bianco, who nodded in acknowledgment. “Alright then, so can you now shift at will?”
“Yeah, but I think I transform quicker when I’m angry or really emotional.” Leonardo continued texting while replying to Alonzo. He had kept his girlfriend waiting for too long. Leonardo loved his newfound confidence and how he had adapted to the pack. He had gotten used to being around the men at the table, unlike when he first joined the pack and was constantly feeling insignificant because he was the youngest.
“You want to see something?” Alonzo asked, and Leonardo quickly raised his head to look at him.
“What’s that?” Leonardo replied.
“Alright, this might make you a bit disoriented but try not to freak out, okay,” Alonzo said. “Are you ready?”
The others seemed to know what he was thinking of doing because they were smiling at him, but Leonardo was feeling antsy.
“I’m ready,” Leonardo finally let out, setting his guard up for what was coming but little did he know just how unprepared he was.
Alonzo stood up and went to stand before Leonardo. A roar escaped from his mouth, causing the food items on the table to tremble. Leonardo felt himself cave into his wolf form. He felt his body transforming even though he didn’t feel like doing so that minute.
“Woah, my body is trans-“
Alonzo laughed when Leonardo turned into his were-form, and he commented, “Not bad, eh?”
“Show off,” Piccolo mumbled.
Alonzo turned to Piccolo with a smile. “Nice ears, bro.”
“Haha, very funny,” Piccolo said dryly. His ears had transformed to his wolf’s own, but he quickly reverted them to humans. Similarly, Leonardo turned back into a human.
“That was crazy,” Leonardo said.
“Indeed, and that’s just one of the perks of being an Alpha,” Alonzo said, coolly returning to his seat. “I can cause my pack mates to shift if I want to simply by roaring loud enough. There’s a pitch, though, which was why the others could withstand the transformation, and you couldn’t because you haven’t gotten as strong as them. If I had roared a little louder than that and gotten to the highest pitch, everyone would have wolfed out. Should I give it a try?”
“No!” They chorused, and Alonzo shrugged. No one wanted to transform against their will.
“Man, I can’t wait to be strong! Also, I wish I’d become an alpha someday.” Leonardo wondered why everyone was looking at him. Suddenly they all roared in laughter, except for Alonzo.
“One does not simply just become an alpha,” Bianco said.
“It’s not something you simply wish for,” Vincenzo said.
Piccolo sighed and decided to explain, “You see, to become an Alpha, a werewolf has to kill another Alpha to attain their position as leader of a pack or form a new pack by gaining the loyalty of other werewolves like in Callisto’s case.”
Leonardo nodded, showing that he understood.
“But they are also those who become alphas by being true alphas,” Alonzo said.
“True alphas,” Vincenzo echoed passionately. He loved the idea of becoming a true Alpha though he knew he couldn’t be one himself.
“What’s a true Alpha?” Leonardo asked, captivated by the words.
“Does anyone care to explain?” Alonzo asked.
They looked at each other awkwardly, and there was silence. Alonzo exhaled nattily and added, “Fine, I will do the honors.”
“Yeah, totally, you should,” Vincenzo said.
Alonzo explained what it meant to be a true Alpha, and Leonardo was even more captivated by the sound of it. He wanted to be a true Alpha like his boss.
“Wow, I’m so high right now; I can feel my legs going rubbery from the thoughts of becoming a true Alpha. I want to be one of those people. What are my chances?” Leonardo disclosed how he felt
“It’s impossible!” Piccolo proclaimed.
“Stop it, Pico, don’t cripple his dreams!” Alonzo ordered.
“What? I was only testing his resolve. How do you expect him to make good on his words if he can’t handle a little doubt planted in his mind, jeez!” Piccolo threw his hands in the air, but don’t get the wrong idea; he was anything but angry.
“From the day I saw you, I knew you were special,” Alonzo began to say how he felt. “I believe you can become a true Alpha if that’s how you feel.”
“Wow, thank you,” Leonardo said, genuinely feeling gratitude.
Bianco yawned. He always wondered why there was a stark difference between Alonzo and Piccolo in how they address issues. They always approached things from a different point of view. Sometimes it was hard to know whose decision was best because both always devised a good strategy. Like in Leonardo’s case just now, Piccolo felt that exploiting Leonardo’s weakness would strengthen him, but Alonzo seemed to have a different idea. He felt tapping into Leonardo’s strength would make him stronger. And Alonzo proved so by encouraging Leonardo’s dream.
Bianco loved how Alonzo and Piccolo respected each other’s opinions and sometimes tried to merge their ideas to formulate a good plan. He was glad he had good leaders. Bianco preferred to be a follower. He couldn’t see himself vying for leadership of any form, which was why he made such a big deal of who he submitted to because he was extremely loyal.
