The Alpha’s Mute Mate -
Episode 28
HUDSON
I woke up with a jolt.
Something is wrong.
I can hear people talking.
It’s coming from next door, Brooke’s room.
Something’s wrong with a mate.
Asher stirs and feels restless “See what is going on with mate,” he says and gets up to a stand-in my head “Something is wrong,” he says with a sudden jerk.
I get up and leap to the joining door to my mate’s room to replace Jackson, Alanna and my father sitting around the table. I look around but there is no sign of my mate. I can’t even smell her scent anywhere.
“Where is……….” I begin to say but Jackson runs fast and grabs me by the throat and pushes me up against the door.
“She has gone” he snarls “She left in the middle of the night.”
I look at him. My father walks over to him and places his hand on his shoulder “Let my son go” he says, using his alpha tone.
Jackson drops me but I catch myself and lean on the door.
“What are you talking about? She was here last night, I checked on her before I went to bed” I said. Jackson huffs and walks back over to the table and grabs the notebook.
He throws it at me “Read” he says and sits back on the chair, glaring at me.
I bend down to pick up the book, there is a message addressed to Jackson:
Dad, I’m sorry I have to go. I didn’t want to leave you again but I have to. I don’t know who I am anymore. Hudson is in love with another woman and it hurts to be here. I need to figure out what I need and want. I have been trapped all my life. Please don’t worry. I will see you again but I need to do this for myself, signed Brooke”
I look over to Jackson who is still glaring at me “That human girl that came here needs to leave” he says with a snarl.
“It’s not what you think” but Jackson cuts me off with a growl “What does it mean? I HEARD YOU SAY EVERYTHING TO YOUR FATHER YESTERDAY, SO TELL ME WHAT I SHOULD THINK” he shouts at me.
“I had feelings for her, I left her to come back to help you to get Brooke back. I left things unsaid to Amy. I fell for her, hard. But as soon as I smelt Brooke’s scent, I never thought about Amy again. I fell for my mate. When I saw Amy yesterday, some feelings came back and I was confused. When I was arguing with my father I never thought Brooke heard any of it, I swear. I was going to talk to her this morning and explain to her” I said.
But I know my words aren’t enough for him, he has lost his daughter all over again.
Suddenly Brooke’s door flies open and Rex runs in “Have you seen Daisy?” He shouts “She is not here in the pack house; I have been looking for her, she never came to bed.”
My father looks at him “What do you mean Daisy has gone?” Both Brooke and Daisy have gone that can’t be a consequence
“Brooke has gone too,” I say “I think they might be together.”
They look at me and seem the realization sets in on every face here in the room “We need to replace them.”
“No you will not,” says my mother’s voice from the door suddenly which startles all of us.
We all look back at her, shocked “But mum……” I begin to say but she holds her hand up to stop me “Now all of you here listen to me, I’m the Luna of this pack. Both girls have been through a lot, especially Brooke. She needs time away from everything and everyone” she says and looks between Rex and me “Both of you hurt them girls, you might not have meant to but you did. Brooke has already been through hell with that god damn woman and that family, Daisy found out that you got a human pregnant, even though she is not in your life, you knew that Daisy was your mate at the time when you did it.”
She looks at all of us “I helped them I knew they needed a break. She never wanted to leave you Jackson, hence the letter but she is lost and trying to figure out who she is, she has been held captive for years, abused” she says “You can’t get to know someone who doesn’t even know themselves Hudson” as she looks directly at me.
I look at her but my mother stares “I don’t know where they are going but they left several hours ago so there is no way of knowing where they have gone.”
There is silence in the room but my father says “But it is not safe for them out there, not with the rogue and that horrible family.”
“I know that’s why they left when they did; no one knows that they have left. Daisy will let me know when they have settled but it might take a while” she says then she turns to Rex and I “Don’t look for them, respect what they want to do and have some faith that they will come back.”
Rex falls onto Brooke’s bed and I sit next to him, trying to let everything sink in.
Everyone stays quiet for a moment.
I look at the notebook I have been holding, I flick through it but land on a sketch that she must have been working on.
The sketch is of me with the words “MY MATE” by the side.
A tear slides down my face, Asher has completely blocked me. He was howling in my head when we heard what my mother said.
“I wonder when they will be back,” Rex says in a whisper.
I look around and notice that it’s just the two of us left in the room; I don’t remember the rest of them leaving.
“I don’t know,” I said with a sigh.
“I think we should……” he starts but I shake my head “No dude, we don’t replace them. We let them come back to us. They need a break.”
“How can you be so calm?” he says sternly.
“I’m not, Asher has blocked me. All I want right now is Brooke but what my mother has said, Brooke went through hell and I would like to know who she is but how am I going to do that when she doesn’t even know herself” I say, I turn to him “You need to let Daisy calm down and process everything, she found out that you got a human girl pregnant and that you have a child out there somewhere, she needs to come to terms with it.” I can’t help but look at my friend. He looks like a broken man but nods “You’re right but what we going to do in the meantime?”
I look at the notebook with my sketch in front of me “We keep busy, we catch them bastards that tortured my mate. We make it safe for them to come back” I say as I stand up.
Rex looks at me and gives me a small smile “That sounds like a plan, where do we start?”
He gets up too, we both need a distraction.
“Let’s get some food, change and figure out where those bastards are,” I say “We could always train more too.”
He nods, we both leave the room.
He leaves but turns to look at me “I will meet you by the kitchen for food in twenty minutes” he says and I nod as he heads back to his room.
I look over the room once more knowing that she has gone, this is going to be so hard for us but we need to make it safe for both of them, well mainly Brooke.
I hope she does replace herself.
I close the door to her room and go back into mine.
Time to start hunting humans and rogues.
