The Apple of My Eye
Chapter 1484 A Menace

Cassie felt too shy to sit in the passenger seat, so she opened the back door and wanted to take the back seat with Isla instead.

"What are you doing here? You should seat in front with Nick. Can't you see that he's waiting for you?" Isla teased, pushing Cassie out before closing the door.

Cassie looked back only to meet Nick's gaze. She blushed and lowered her head. She had no choice but to sit in front. Seeing that, Nick opened the door for her. Cassie quietly slipped herself into the passenger seat, trying to avoid eye contact with Nick. A smile suddenly burst into Nick's lips. He looked at Isla from the rear-view mirror and nodded to her as thanks. Isla smiled back at him, feeling pretty fulfilled. It was such a great joy to see Nick and Cassie together. Both of them were really too shy, so she needed to push them forward.

She could almost predict that if she and Sheryl didn't intervene, they could possibly end up separating forever. She decided that she must speed up the process of their relationship, and bring them to a more intimate stage. Maybe she needed to book a hotel for them tonight? Isla racked her wits about it.

Meanwhile, it was almost 6 p.m., but Sheryl still received several calls from clients, asking for contract extension.

Sheryl felt quite surprised that their business was really booming. It was too good to be true. However, since the down payment kept flowing into their company account, it was enough to reassure her that it was true.

Sheryl stared at her computer screen, focusing on her job, when the loud ringtone from her cellphone startled her. Checking it, she saw Isla's name registered on the caller ID.

'Oh, shit!' Sheryl thought when she realized she completely forgot about their gathering!

She picked up the phone immediately and apologized, "Sorry, Isla, I have been very busy that I forget we're meeting tonight. Let me check. It's almost 7 o'clock." Sheryl checked the time. "I'm leaving now!" "You are such a workaholic! You blame me for neglecting my health when I'm working. I think you are doing worse than me!" Isla made fun of Sheryl as she read the menu.

They chose a hotpot restaurant, which was perfect for a gathering. She also picked several light dishes, because she knew that her friends wouldn't let her eat too spicy food since she just recovered from stomachache.

Sheryl smiled in embarrassment. "I'll be right there. Don't wait for me. Just go ahead and enjoy the dishes."

"I never thought of waiting for you, girl! But Nick insists that we shouldn't start until you arrive," Isla complained, throwing a blaming glance at Nick.

She felt jealous that Nick cared more about Sheryl than he did for her! Such a bad boy!

However, Nick didn't even notice that Isla mentioned him on her conversation with Sheryl, because he was trying to flatter Cassie.

As soon as Isla hung up, Sheryl prepared to leave. She turned off her computer, cleaned her desk, and walked out of her office.

That was when she found out that Phoebe was still at her desk.

"Phoebe, why are you still here? It's pretty late. Have you had dinner already?"

Her questions startled Phoebe, who was typing on her computer. She looked up and smiled at her, "Ms. Xia, you have been working so hard yourself. How can I leave earlier than you when I am your assistant?"

Sheryl felt a little guilty after she heard Phoebe's words. Knowing that Phoebe stayed because of her, she didn't want to leave her alone in the office.

She was a young girl, but she seemed more sophisticated than her age. As an employee, she was very diligent and committed, which made Sheryl satisfied.

Sheryl patted her shoulder slightly and said, "Thanks for staying with me. It's time to go home. Let's go."

Phoebe nodded and turned her computer off. Bringing her handbag, she followed Sheryl out of the office, heading to the elevator.

When they arrived at the first floor, Phoebe turned to Sheryl. "Ms. Xia, goodbye now. I'm going to take a bus home." She was ready to go out.

Sheryl tugged on her sleeve and smiled, "It's very late now. I'll just get my car, and I'll drive you home."

"Ms. Xia, thank you for your offer. But you don't need to do that. It's late, and your family must already be waiting for you at dinner," Phoebe said politely.

"It doesn't matter. I'm going to meet some friends at a restaurant, and I can drop you at your home on my way."

"Well, that's so kind of you. Thank you, Ms. Xia."

They had small talk in the elevator, and soon they arrived at the parking lot. Sheryl parked her car not far away from the lift this morning. As they walk towards it, she took her car keys out. Suddenly, she stopped walking.

Phoebe noticed how Sheryl's expression changed dramatically. "What's wrong, Ms. Xia?"

However, Sheryl stood aghast, staring at her car, like she didn't hear Phoebe at all.

Phoebe followed the direction where Sheryl was looking, only to replace that the white car was marked with several red characters, which appeared to have been written with a lipstick.

Phoebe covered her mouth with her palms, trying not to scream. 'What the hell was going on? Was it a prank? Who marked these characters on Sheryl's car?'

While Phoebe was in shock, Sheryl proceeded to her car.

Phoebe had no choice but to follow her. The parking lot was utterly silent, she could only hear the echoes of Sheryl's stilettos knocking on the floor.

A creepy and tense air haunted the empty and silent parking lot, making Phoebe nervous and frightened. She sped up her paces, trying to keep up with Sheryl.

She had never felt that this parking lot was unsafe before. But now, she felt like there were a pair of mysterious eyes, watching them from a dark corner. However, Sheryl seemed to feel nothing about the unusual environment. She just kept walking.

Sheryl stopped walking when she finally reached her car. Phoebe stood close to her.

It was then that Phoebe recognized a few of the characters written on the car. They were as red as blood.

It read, "I swear, I'll take my revenge on you!"

Phoebe was shocked by these threatening words. 'Who would do this?

What happened between Sheryl and that person? Why did that person make such an oath?' A lot of questions were running in Phoebe's head right now.

She turned to look at Sheryl immediately, but she noticed that she was still composed, even though her face was a little pale.

Phoebe couldn't help sighing that there was a big difference between an ordinary girl and a boss. If she had been put in Sheryl's shoes, she might have already screamed for help.

"Phoebe, please request the CCTV footage from the security department tomorrow morning," Sheryl commanded abruptly, startling Phoebe. It took her several seconds before she was able to process what Sheryl just said.

"Yes, Ms. Xia," Phoebe answered.
