The Assassin’s Mate -
Family Secrets
Its been three days since my stupid fuck up and Romero wouldn't even talk to me. And as soon as he stopped I had gone on a solid 72 hour killing binge. Animals, Rogue's, basically if it moved it was dead. My anger and rage were at an all time high and I knew it was because I had done the one thing I worked so hard to fight, what I had trained my mind to forget since I stepped foot on this territory...NEVER SHOW WEAKNESS!
Damon walked into my room and said "Alpha wants to see you."
My stomach was in knots and my palms were sweating. Anything could happen to me, he could torture me, lock me up, banish me from the pack or even worse, he could kill me. All of these were justifiable but I just couldn't actually see him doing any of them. Although, I did do the most unimaginable thing to him so I deserved whatever punishment I would get.
I walked down the hall behind Damon watching as his shoulders stiffened the closer we got to Romero's office. He had been apprehensive of me since my poor taste in judgment with Crane and I didn't blame him. I made a horrible decision and I knew I would have to work hard to gain back their trust, if they decided to give me another chance, because right now I wasn't sure I deserved one.
We made it to his door and Damon opened it then smiled gently as he said "Go ahead, he won't bite!"
I chuckled under my breath at his dark sense of humor but my mood changed quickly when I entered the dark smoky room. The tension in the room was so thick you couldn't breath and Romero was sitting behind his desk with a cigar in his hand and a scotch in front of him seeming eerily calm.
"Sit Li. Thanks Damon."
I turned to see him nod then walk out the door, closing it behind him. Why wouldn't he let him stay? Was he banishing me, then kicking me out without letting me say goodbye or was he was going to murder me and just didn't want Damon to see it? My hands started to shake as I sat in the chair across from him.
"Li." He said then took a long drag from his cigar. "I understand why you let him go. I don't like it but I understand. I also know you were never aware of the agreement your father and he had until three nights ago."
I shook my head and responded "No Alpha I never knew. Damon just told me during the attack and Crane confirmed it before I let him go but what I don't get is, why my father would trade me to someone like him instead of just sending me off into the woods to die or worse, killing me himself? I mean he hated me, he told me everyday how much he wished I weren't alive that I was the reason my mother died and how he would never accept me as his own for as long as I lived."
"Li your father has always been a bad man even before you were born." He stood up from his chair and walked over the the window, staring out into the darkness. "Did he ever tell you about Cecilia, his first mate?" He said as he turned to face me.
My eyes were wide and my mouth fell open. "What?"
"Cecilia Hampton was his first mate. They met while he was in Alpha training and they were together about five years. She could never bare his children but he didn't care because he loved her. Then one day she was shot and killed with a silver bullet by a rivaling pack. Apparently some of his questionable members feared him not having an heir would make his pack weak in the future so they organized her death so he had to replace someone to give him an heir. Although, their plan backfired when he turned into a ruthless dictator of a leader and banished them from his pack. Years later he met your mother and got a second chance to have a family until she died during childbirth with you."
My hands were clenched around the arms of the chair I was sitting in causing the wood to splinter and break from my grip. "How do you know all of this?"
He sucked in a huge gulp of air then sighed heavily. He closed his eyes as if he was trying to think of what to say.
"Li...your mother and I were born into the same pack. I was the Alpha's son and she was the Beta's daughter. We were very close friends but after I found my mate at 18 we grew apart and then I took my fathers place at 21. She came to me one night begging me to let her leave to replace her mate but I knew what would happen if I did. She was an unmated Beta female, basically a walking target and there was no way I was giving her my permission. One night she left without a word and 2 weeks later she returned a mess. She found her mate, a Rogue who rejected her the moment he laid eyes on her."
I sat there in shock as he talked. There was no way I was hearing this right? He knew my mother? I couldn't help the bubble of anger that was rising in my chest. My eyes felt like the were on fire and my brain was in overdrive with all this new information. I stood up abruptly and planted my hands on his desk with a thud.
"You knew my mother?" I snarled out, spit flying from my mouth, fuming with anger as he walked slowly towards me holding up his hands up in defeat.
"Yes Li, I did. But I never told you because I didn't know how."
"You didn't know how? It's fucking simple, Alpha, Li I grew up with your mom! See, how hard was that?" I paced around his office like a caged panther ready to pounce on my sneaky prey. "You've kept all of this a secret from me for 12 years. How could you do that? How could you turn me into some, some killing machine when you knew my mother and from the sounds of it you were terrified to let her leave the territory because she was a target."
"Li, your mother could defend herself, believe me. But she was so desperate to replace her mate that she put herself in danger by going against my orders. She was a very special wolf and every man wanted her, including her mate but he was a Rogue and he knew he would never be good enough for her so he rejected her."
"Are you serious? That's your excuse, she was special? Of course she was wanted, she was unmated and way over the age of replaceing her mate because of you!"
He grabbed me by my shoulders trying to calm me down but he was only making it worse. I wanted to claw his eyes out, why did everyone have to be so conniving? Why couldn't they just be straight with me?
"Li your mom was special because of what she was. Not her status."
I looked at him with confusion but before I could open my mouth he said "She was a Lycan. My whole pack were Lycan's."
