The Assassin’s Mate -
Finally Home
The ride back to Tanner's pack was quiet. I had so much going on in my mind that I barely felt him grab my hand.
"Li, talk to me. What's going on in that pretty little head of yours?"
I turned to face him and all I saw were his beautiful chocolate brown eyes swimming with love. How could I ever have doubted his words? He's been amazing since I woke up and I know he still thinks I won't forgive him for keeping me locked up but do you blame him? I've killed so many people I stopped counting, it was my job but when it came to him I couldn't do it. Even if he wouldn't have been my mate, I couldn't see hurting an innocent man. Julius lied more times than I could count and I knew he was evil the first time I met him but I was a different person then.
"Just thinking about...everything."
From the moment I met Tanner, I knew there was something genuine about him. Something loving and protective that radiated through him. He was possessive when he needed to be but he always had my best interest at heart but he never treated me like a damsel in distress, even when he handed me over to those losers at the warehouse he still had faith in me. He may not have liked how I handled things but he didn't stop me from doing them my way. Maybe we could make this King and Queen thing work!
We pulled up to the gate and my stomach began turning. I felt like an outsider and yet I was supposed to be their Luna and the Queen of our kind. I couldn't even protect myself from a dark dungeon how the hell was I supposed to stand by his side and rule the werewolf kingdom. I took a deep breath when the truck stopped and waited for him to walk around to my side and help me out. He held my hand as I got down from my seat and led me up the steps. I looked up at the massive mansion in front of me and smiled when I thought about our life together. We never really had a chance to talk about our future so I didn't know what he expected of me.
We walked up the steps and through the front door. The living room was massive and decorated in a modern style with all white walls, white furniture and accessories. The floors were dark wood that butted up against black ceramic faux brick floors that lined the kitchen. Again it was a modern industrial design with stainless steel appliances and fixtures. The countertops were white quartz and the cabinets were all white with a grey accented island in the center. It was a state of the art room that looked like it had never been touched.
He grabbed my hand and said "Let's get you settled in upstairs. I'll run you a bath and while you're soaking I'll make you something to eat."
I smiled as I realized that he didn't have to do this but he wanted to and if he really meant he would make it up to me, this was a great start. He led me upstairs to the master suite and I almost started drooling when we walked in. The wall across from the door had two sets of French doors on each side with floor to ceiling windows in between that led out to a balcony. The humongous bed was adorned with all white sheets and a beautiful down comforter. There was a marble fireplace across from it and the bathroom was to the right along the same wall as the doors.
He walked ahead and went to the tub filling it with fragrant salts. He came back out then grabbed my hand guiding me in. He had thrown in some rose petals for ambiance and lit candles. The night sky outside held just the right amount of light and illuminated his face so angelically. He helped me out of my clothes and into the warm water then made sure I had everything I needed before he went back downstairs. I felt like it was dreaming, being treating so perfectly by the most amazing man ever but soon my demons were fighting for attention. I closed my eyes and took some deep breathes as the wave of anxiety passed. When I opened my eyes Tanner was sitting on the edge of the tub rubbing my hand and the warmest sensation floated over me.
"I felt your anxiousness so I came up here. Are you ok?"
The biggest smile crossed my face and I said "I think I will be."
He squeezed my hand then walked out. After a few minutes he came back in with a long silk robe and a big fluffy towel. I groaned not wanting to get out but my stomach was also grumbling so I stood up letting him wrap me in the towel and dry me off. I watched his jaw twitch and the muscles in his arms flex as he passed the towel over my wet skin. I felt the heat pooling between my legs and I saw his nostrils flare. He closed his eyes tightly then opened them back and slipped the robe over me, tying it securely in front. I huffed to myself and I heard him grunt.
"I know what you're thinking wild one and it's not going to happen. At least not until you have completely forgiven me."
I walked into the bedroom pouting until I saw a table in front of the lit fireplace. It was filled with meats, cheeses, an assortment of cracker and spreads along with fruits and nuts. He also had a bucket with chilled champagne and two empty glasses in the middle. My belly starting growling at the sight of the spread in front of us and I instantly took a seat. I waited impatiently while he opened the bottle and poured us each a glass. I sat there practically salivating as he took his time making sure to fill the glasses up without all the fizz. He chuckled when I growled at his snail-like tempo.
"Dig in Li."
I smiled as I grabbed some salami and cheese adding it to a cracker and devouring it in seconds. It had been so long since I'd eaten that I probably would have chewed my own hands off if I didn't have this delicious mouth watering smorgasbord in front of me. We spent the next two hours taking and eating as if we had known each other for years and the more he opened up to me the more comfortable I became with him.
"I want you to listen to the doctor and take it easy this week. The coronation is coming up and I need you to be at your full strength for that night."
"What exactly do we do at the coronation?" I said nervously while I bit my nail.
"On that night we will be crowned King and Queen. It is a long boring ceremony but at the end we have to shift into our wolves and lead the entire pack, along with the dignitaries who are performing it, on a run. Then we leave to start our lives together."
My eyes widened at the thought of all these people seeing my wolf. The only ones who had ever seen it were Romero's pack and Tanner and Rory during the fight. Uneasiness crept through my spine as I imagined what they would say when they realized I was a Lycan, a trained vicious killer.
Tanner is unbelievable. If Li doesn’t completely forgive him after this then I will!!
Why is she worried about everyone knowing she’s a Lycan?
The coronation is near!!!!!
