The Blood Moon Twins -
Chapter 100
REMY
This room looked familiar. It was similar to the room where I first met Eva. The walls were completely white, making it look like it could go on forever. It felt different than the place that belonged to my mind. It was similar because our magic created this place, but I had never been here before. The feeling was completely different, and there were no signs of my familiar here.
I wasn't sure what had brought us here exactly, but as I looked around, I noticed a stream of moving pictures off to the side, which caught my attention.
"Wait, what's that?" I asked, instantly moving towards it. I needed a better look.
The images were flying past in a line, and the closer I got, the clearer the images became. When I was only a few feet away, the images stopped moving. I paused, staring at the images in front of me. It was like there were several virtual screens in a line, each one showing a different clip of my life. The line went on for several feet to my left, and to my right, I couldn't even see the end of the string. As I looked at it, it reminded me of the timeline Cain had drawn, only there were images filling the space instead of the words he wrote.
"That's us," Caulder said, looking at the images.
Caulder was right. Each screen had a clip of some sort of memory Caulder and I shared together. This wasn't my timeline. It was the timeline of our relationship.
"These are our memories together," I said, glancing at him.
He reached his hand up and tried to touch the screen in front of us, but his hand went right through it. The image in front of us was the last conversation we had on the roof together before Caulder was taken. "How is this possible?" he asked.
I shrugged my shoulders. "Magic can do incredible things. Ginger is always saying the only limit to magic is one's own abilities. Plus, Cain's magic was based on time control. He said with it we could get glimpses of the past and possibly the future. We could also manipulate the present time." There was so much Caulder had missed while he was gone, so I felt like I would have to fill him in a lot for the next week or so.
"Your visions," Caulder said as he looked at me, realizing the true nature of where my visions came from. "And the way time slowed around me. This makes so much more sense now."
"What are you talking about?"
Caulder took a deep breath. "I don't remember much about my escape from the Council of Magic, but I remember feeling fast. Well, more like everything slowed around me. I was able to avoid the sorcerers who were trying to detain me because of it. I don't know if I would have made it out of there if it wasn't for that."
I found myself hugging Caulder again without thinking. I hated thinking about how he had to fight his way out there by himself. It made the anger inside of me start to rise, and hugging Caulder seemed to make the anger calm down. It grounded me and reminded me that he made it out and, beyond all odds, we found him.
Caulder held onto me, and for a moment I could feel his sadness and fear as if it was my own. He may have had a smile on his face, but I could feel that he wasn't okay. I just wanted to hold onto him until he felt better, because that would mean I felt better, too. After a few minutes, I knew a single hug wouldn't be enough to fix everything, so I pulled away.
As soon as we parted, the room around us disappeared, and we were back in the conference room. I looked around, feeling a little disoriented by the sudden change in scenery again.
"That really happened, right? I'm not crazy?" Caulder had one eyebrow raised, and I knew he was just as thrown off as me.
Something about his face made me chuckle. "Well, you might be crazy, but that really did happen."
Caulder smiled at me, and his face seemed to soften. "I'm glad to see you smiling again."
The door burst open, and Blade and Harper pushed into the room. They were out of breath, and both of them had panic written all over their faces. Blade rushed over to me and cupped my face.
"We saw a bright light coming from here. Are you okay? You're not hurt, are you?" he asked, looking me up and down.
"No, we're okay," I said. I looked at Caulder and smiled again. He smiled back when he made eye contact. We were both lucky to have mates who cared this much about us.
Harper was inspecting his body, running her fingers up and down him to make sure he didn't have any new scratches on him. "Your bruises are gone," she said when she finished looking Caulder over. "How did that happen?"
Caulder had life in his face again. The circles under his eyes were gone, and his skin was glowing with the returned color. "Remy healed me."
Everyone's eyes flicked to me, and I found myself blushing at the sudden attention. "I didn't know you could heal," Harper said.
"I didn't know either. It just kind of happened," I said.
"You get more and more incredible every day," Blade said. He pulled me into him, and I felt lighter in his arms. It made me want to stay in his arms all of the time. I wanted so much more from this man, but it still felt like a future with him was just out of my grasp. I was just grateful he was by my side for the time being.
"Do you have to be so cheesy in front of us?" Harper said, pretending to gag.
I stuck my tongue out at her, knowing she was only teasing us.
Caulder grabbed Harper's chin and guided her attention to him. "Are you jealous? Because I can give you all the compliments you want."
Harper turned bright red as Caulder teased her. I found myself chuckling as the tables were turned on her. She tucked a piece of hair behind her ear, and I could tell that Caulder was affecting her more than she had expected. I was happy for her, though. I knew she had been struggling without Caulder, so I was relieved to see he was still as loving towards her as she deserved.
