Chapter 108 A Japanese Meal, A Farce
"It's just a meal, who cares who pays?" Daniel said, but deep down, he was worried that the Japanese food here was too pricey for Emily.
He'd feel bad if she spent a lot just to save face.
But Emily insisted on treating, and they started bickering about it.
Meanwhile, Abigail sat on the side, enjoying the show.
From her perspective, one was her best friend, and the other was a guy trying to win her friend over.
She didn't care who paid; she was just there for the delicious Japanese food.
"Emily." Just as Abigail was thinking this, she heard a cold male voice behind her.
She turned around and saw the annoying Michael had shown up out of nowhere, with the troublemaker, Sophia, in tow!
Worried that Emily might get harassed, Abigail stepped forward.
Sure enough, Sophia, who loved causing trouble, clung to Michael and sneered, "Oh, Michael, look! Turns out it's not just the two of them on a date; there's a third wheel!"
Hearing this, Abigail was instantly furious. "Who are you calling a third wheel? I think you're the one interrupting us. Why don't you consider leaving? Don't you think you're affecting us by standing here? Don't you feel awkward? Who's the annoying one, you or me?"
Sophia couldn't hold back anymore.
She immediately started yelling at Abigail, trying her best to replace faults in her.
Abigail, sacrificing herself to divert attention from Emily, noticed that Michael's intense gaze hadn't left her.
Michael's gaze shifted back and forth between Emily and Daniel, exuding a domineering and intense aura that made everyone uneasy.
"It's quite a coincidence to run into Mr. Smith here. So, did you just replace out about this new Japanese restaurant and bring your girlfriend to try it?" Daniel broke the awkward silence, emphasizing the word "girlfriend" when greeting Michael. Everyone heard it clearly, and Sophia's neck stiffened, looking particularly proud.
Abigail couldn't contain her anger and sarcastically muttered, "Hypocrite."
Sophia seemed to ignore it and focused on responding to Daniel. "Michael said the ingredients here are very fresh, and the chef's skills are excellent, so he insisted on bringing me to try it."
Hearing this, Emily felt as if a needle had pricked her heart.
In three years of marriage, Michael had never once suggested taking her out to eat.
These days, she had been busy managing the Smith family, paying the servants, taking care of Mason's meals, and mediating with Veda.
Even though Michael saw all this, he probably thought it was her duty.
Michael hadn't expected Sophia to say that.
It was Sophia who insisted on meeting him and coming to this Japanese restaurant.
Whatever, what was the difference in the excuse? Didn't Emily also leave everything behind to have fun with another man?
The situation grew more awkward, but fortunately, the waiter stepped in to break the tension. "Mr. Smith, I'm sorry, but we don't have any suitable private rooms available. Would you like to dine in the open seating area instead?"
Another wave of anger swept through the group.
Sophia couldn't stand the idea of not getting a private room while Emily, who she thought was beneath her, enjoyed a comfortable meal.
She immediately pointed at Emily and demanded the waiter, "Make them leave, and we can sit here."
"Sophia, don't go too far! Emily is your sister. Bullying your family is one thing, but how are we bothering you by eating here? Do you understand the concept of first come, first served?" Abigail was so mad she wanted to slap Sophia. How could there be such shameless people in the world?
"Abigail, the rule in this world is that money talks. How about this, we'll buy the right to use this private room. What do you think?" Sophia said, knowing Daniel was there, and added, "Whoever is treating should buy it, highest bidder wins." Emily and Michael were both uninterested in Sophia's senseless competition, but the people around them egged them on.
Especially Daniel, who thought Emily didn't have much money, and Sophia's move was just to embarrass her. So he stood up righteously and pulled out his VIP card. "I'm treating, so I'll buy it. Isn't it just about who has more money? Miss Brown, this competition may be childish, but I'm willing to play along."
Then, Daniel pulled Emily behind him and looked at Michael.
He agreed to Sophia's challenge partly to stand up for Emily, but also to compete with Michael.
Men's competitions were always ongoing.
And Michael, initially indifferent to the competition, got angry when he saw Daniel holding Emily's hand in front of him. "Fine, Sophia, if you want to play, I'll go along with it. Name your price, anything goes."
So, a simple meal turned into a competition of wealth between the Wilson family and the Smith family?
Emily watched as Michael and Daniel refused to back down.
They came here to eat, but now they were playing these silly games.
She found it boring and ridiculous, especially the doting tone Michael used with Sophia.
Favoring someone truly made a difference.
No matter how unreasonable or absurd Sophia's requests were, Michael would indulge her.
Emily felt extremely sad.
She couldn't help but envy Sophia. What made her so special? Why did Michael love her so much, willing to do anything for her?
The more she thought about it, the more confused she became. Emily finally shook off Daniel's hand and told the waiter, "We're not competing."
With that, Emily pulled Daniel and called Abigail to leave the restaurant.
At this point, Abigail was also furious with Sophia.
She didn't want to say another word to Sophia and directed her anger at Michael.
After all, they had once sat and talked together at Emerald Lake Manor.
"Michael, sometimes I really don't understand you. If you have no feelings for Emily, then why do I see you reluctant to let her move out? If you have no feelings for her, then why do you always allow this seductive woman to pester her? Disgusting, truly disgusting!"
