The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains
Chapter 120 Change of Heart

"We're getting divorced soon. The papers are already ready," Emily said.

The whole Brown family went silent when Emily dropped that bomb. But Emily caught a glimpse of Evelyn's face, and she was practically glowing with satisfaction.

After all, Sophia was about to become the new lady of the Smith family. She'd be reaping the benefits too. The Brown Corporation shares or whatever, as long as they had the Smith family's backing, it didn't matter. They were pretty much worthless anyway, so who cared?

"Today's PR is just to keep things quiet for now. You all know what kind of pull Michael has in Emerald City. He can definitely replace a way to make Sophia his wife, right?"

Emily gave a cold smile and threw down the gauntlet to Hayden. "Stop wasting our time. My patience is running thin."

The study door opened and closed, and in this round, Emily had the upper hand. Hayden was always wishy-washy, and even now, he had to look at Evelyn before making a move.

Evelyn was deflated; she just couldn't handle Emily. It seemed that Emily had an obsession with the Brown Corporation shares and wouldn't rest until she got them.

With a cold snort, Evelyn glared at Hayden and plopped down on the sofa, sulking. One moment she was thrilled about Sophia marrying into the Smith family, and the next, she was fuming at Emily for taking control and putting the Brown family in a tough spot.

Seeing this, Hayden had no choice but to follow Emily into the study. They had to figure out their next move. No way could this go to court! If it went public, how could he show his face? It'd be a total disgrace!

Meanwhile, Sophia was feeling humiliated. She wanted to call Michael and give him a piece of her mind. But when she called the office, the receptionist thought she was a job applicant and brushed her off.

How could the office phone be transferred to the front desk? Andrew would never do that on his own. Sophia figured it had to be Michael! Was he dodging her?

Already fuming, Sophia went downstairs, only to get an earful from Evelyn. After some digging, she found out Emily had shown up with a court summons.

Sophia thought, 'That Emily, not only does she take Michael, but she also wants to wreck my family and future! If the Brown family goes bankrupt and Michael ditches me, I'll be done for!'

Sophia was livid but couldn't storm into the study, so she sulked with Evelyn.

Meanwhile, Michael was pretty pleased with himself.

With just one PR article, public opinion had shifted, and the company was back to normal.

Not only that, he had seen Emily's interview. "I am Miss Brown, and also Mrs. Smith. You can call me whatever you like. Thank you all for your concern for the Smith family. I believe this storm of public opinion will eventually pass." Those were the words Emily dropped during the interview.

They seemed like ordinary words, but Michael kept replaying them, a smile creeping onto his face, feeling oddly content.

Andrew watched quietly from the side, thinking Michael might be a bit off due to the recent public opinion storm.

"Mr. Smith, are you okay?" Andrew asked.

"I'm fine, why wouldn't I be?" Michael replied.

"Miss Brown's call was intercepted earlier. Should we keep doing that?" Andrew asked.

Andrew wasn't a fan of Sophia, but he couldn't let her mess up the work schedule. The CEO's office phone being unreachable would throw off the daily routine.

"Keep intercepting. I don't want to take her calls today, and I don't feel like working," Michael said.

The message was clear, and Andrew got it.

"Then today..." Andrew started to ask more but saw Michael's expression change instantly.

Andrew got scared, thinking he might have overstepped.

Worried about getting his pay docked again, he quickly bowed his head and said, "Sorry, Mr. Smith, I won't ask anymore."

"Andrew, come here," Michael said.

Michael didn't care what Andrew had said. He frowned, pulled Andrew over, and pointed at the interview on the tablet. "Look, doesn't this look like the entrance to the Brown Mansion?" Andrew took a closer look and said, "Yes, Mr. Smith, I saw this door when I went with you and Mrs. Smith to the Brown Mansion last time. This is it."

The Brown Mansion's decor was too unique. Luxurious yet rustic, it was unforgettable.

But soon, Andrew got what Michael was hinting at. "Mr. Smith, Mrs. Smith's interview was today, which means she went to the Brown Mansion today." Suddenly, Michael had a bad feeling. He got up, grabbed his coat, and rushed out.

"Hey, Mr. Smith, where are you going? It's fine not to work today, but there are still reporters outside!" Andrew said, quickly chasing after him. The next second, Michael stopped abruptly, and Andrew almost ran into him.

'Right, there are still reporters outside,' Michael thought.

He wasn't scared of them, but they were a hassle, asking endless questions about everything from the future of Smith Corporation to his personal life.

He didn't have time for that, but for the sake of Smith Corporation, he had to deal with them nicely. Otherwise, Mason would nag him endlessly.

And what about Emily? Michael knew that Emily and the Brown family never got along.

Thinking this, Michael turned around and gave Andrew a scrutinizing look. Suddenly, he flashed a wicked smile, making Andrew shiver and break out in goosebumps. Andrew was ordered to drive Michael's sports car out. If it was just a casual drive, Andrew would be happy. But it wasn't.

The excited reporters chased him all over the streets, making him unable to stop and forcing him to keep driving.

Meanwhile, Michael drove Andrew's sedan straight to the Brown Mansion. He didn't want to take Sophia's calls but was ready to go there alone. Sometimes, Michael couldn't understand his own actions. All the way, he kept thinking about one question: What exactly did Emily mean to him?
