The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains
Chapter 124 Veda Sneaks Out

Michael figured Emily was here to talk about the divorce again. Or maybe she was here to stir up trouble about those online videos.

He wasn't in the best mood and just followed Emily out. Seeing her all anxious but not saying anything, Michael started to lose his cool. The confidence he had in front of the shareholders disappeared in an instant. Michael snapped, "Do you really have to come to me right now? Of course, you caught me again. Gotta keep pushing for that divorce, huh?"

Emily, confused by his sarcastic tone, frowned. "What are you talking about?"

Michael was taken aback. "Aren't you here to talk about the divorce? Didn't you see those online videos?"

What videos? Wasn't the divorce already settled? She only wanted that part of the property, not the house. Now she was just waiting for Andrew to transfer the money to her.

Turned out, the Smith Mansion didn't have internet yet, and because of some urgent stuff, Emily hadn't checked her phone or gone online. She rushed to Smith Corporation in a hurry. "Veda ran away," Emily said.

"Ran away? Where?" Michael was both amused and annoyed. One problem after another, seriously?

Emily said, "I don't know. The hospital called me, saying she was still there this morning, but when they went to change her dressing at noon, they found she was gone. She took all her toiletries and the clothes I brought her. I didn't dare tell Grandpa, afraid he'd worry even more, so I came to you first. Are you busy right now..."

As she asked this, Emily suddenly remembered how she had barged into the meeting room earlier, and the shareholders didn't seem too friendly towards her.

She felt a bit guilty and changed the subject. "Why don't you give me a car, and I'll go look for her. You can finish your work, and we'll talk later."

"You're gonna look for her? You and Veda aren't close. Do you know where she usually goes?" Michael asked.

Michael's question stumped Emily. She didn't know where Veda usually went. Probably bars or karaoke rooms? But Emerald City was so big, with countless bars and karaoke rooms.

If she had to rely on her own ability to replace Veda in Emerald City, it would probably take five days and nights without replaceing a damn thing.

Emily replied, "I'll start looking first. What if I replace her? If I can't, I'll ask Abigail to help. She's on vacation and should be willing to help me..."

Hearing this, Michael waved his hand to interrupt Emily's nonsensical idea. "She might be willing to help you, but then the Smith family would owe her. If your good friend comes to me for repayment, I can't handle it."

With that, Michael regained some seriousness and continued to analyze. "Veda didn't get lost; she ran away on her own. I know Veda. She loves to have fun, and after being cooped up for so many days, she must be dying to run out and play for a few days and nights. If you forcefully bring her back now, she'll only hate you more."

Hearing the word "hate," Emily was furious. Did the Smith family even understand gratitude? Why did both Michael and Veda have to hate her? It was ridiculous.

Though she was grumbling inside, Emily still didn't buy into Michael's idea. "What's wrong with you? Aren't you worried about Veda running off alone? What if she gets into trouble?"

Michael replied, "I'm her brother. No one knows her better than I do. Emily, who said I wasn't going to bring her back? I just said, not by force."

So what then? Emily was really fed up with Michael's cryptic attitude.

Michael continued, "It's simple. Just cancel all her credit cards, and she'll come crying back to me."

With that, Michael smiled. Seeing Emily's previously tense demeanor relax instantly, he found it adorable and instinctively patted her head, saying, "Go home."

It was just a casual gesture. But with that one action, both of their hearts rippled.

Just as the atmosphere grew ambiguous, with unspoken feelings in their eyes, someone came to disrupt it. The meeting room door opened, and Andrew couldn't stop the shareholders from speaking out forcefully. "Mr. Smith, you need to give us an explanation for this!"

"Yes, Mr. Smith, avoiding the issue isn't a solution. We can't be the sacrifices for your love!"

"If it doesn't work, we'll go with our plan, immediate dismissal! We will exercise our rights!"

What a mess. The more Emily listened, the more confused she became. Fortunately, Andrew quickly caught Michael's signal and hurriedly took Emily to the office.

Michael returned to the meeting room to continue his battle of wits with the shareholders. It wasn't until evening that Michael finally managed to placate the shareholders and return to the office.

He thought Emily had already left. Maybe she left angrily, cursing, or maybe she left the divorce papers with Andrew.

But to his surprise, she was sitting quietly on the sofa. When she saw him come in, she even greeted him, which was rare. "You're back."

Strange things were happening, especially this year. Michael sighed inwardly and walked over to sit opposite Emily. "You didn't leave?"

"With such a big issue, how could I leave?" Emily questioned Michael, then took a deep breath and continued. "I'll keep this from Grandpa for now. Luckily, the Smith Mansion doesn't have internet, so he shouldn't replace out. But the shareholders might accidentally let the news slip to Grandpa. If that happens, you won't be able to escape, and Grandpa will worry even more."

At this point, Emily reminded Michael, "Michael, this isn't a joke. If you're not careful, you'll lose your position as CEO and the Smith family's thirty-year legacy. You need to give an explanation."

Emily's condescending tone sounded just like the shareholders to Michael. They all educated him, reminded him, and demanded an explanation.

But he hadn't done anything wrong. What explanation was he supposed to give? To whom? It was the person causing trouble behind the scenes who should give him an explanation!

Michael felt a bit defeated. He sat on the sofa, crossed his legs, and ignored Emily's words. But then, something even more shocking happened.

Emily actually said, "Michael, I agree that we should temporarily not get divorced."
