The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains
Chapter 138 The Dress Blessing

Sophia had been holed up in bed for days, looking like a total mess with her hair all over the place.

Hayden, who usually spoiled her, finally had enough. He barged into her room, fuming. "Sophia! Are you still my daughter? So what if Michael dumped you? He's got his own problems now, you should be relieved!" His words hit Sophia hard. She didn't want to admit she got dumped.

"Who told you Michael dumped me?" she yelled, her face twisted with anger, startling Hayden.

Sophia, usually so gentle, had never acted like this. Evelyn rushed in, knowing Sophia better than anyone. She knew Michael must have been the one to end things. She had already told Hayden.

But Hayden, being the doting dad he was, didn't get it and joined in Evelyn's rant. "Michael doesn't know what he's missing. You'll replace someone better!"

Evelyn and Sophia were set on marrying into the Smith family. Now, only they were worried. Sophia was heartbroken, and Evelyn was scheming ways to win Michael back.

"Let Sophia be alone for a bit. You don't understand a young girl's feelings!" Evelyn said, trying to push Hayden out.

But he was still fuming and kept yelling at Sophia. "Michael's not the only rich guy around! I have a friend connected to Mrs. Watson, Mabel Simpson, from Emerald City. It's her birthday today, and her grandson's coming back from abroad. I thought of taking you there to meet people! But seeing you like this, you don't deserve to be my daughter..."

"Dad!" Sophia perked up, not because of Mabel's grandson.

She knew all the wealthy families in Emerald City were connected to the Smiths. If Mabel was having a party, Michael might be there.

"I want to go! When is it?" Sophia asked.

Hayden and Evelyn were shocked. It took Hayden a moment to answer. "Tonight at seven."

Emily didn't know what kind of beef Michael and Bryan had. Mason and Michael didn't explain, and she didn't feel it was her place to pry.

But she noticed that Michael didn't seem to hate Bryan. So, she figured things wouldn't be too hard to handle.

With that thought, Emily looked at herself in the mirror. The store clerk had helped her into a dress, and she couldn't help but smile. "Oh, Mrs. Smith, you look amazing! This dress is perfect on you, I can't stop staring!" The sales clerk's compliments were always a bit over the top.

Emily gave a few fake laughs and kept admiring herself in the mirror.

Seeing Emily hesitate, the clerk raised her voice on purpose. "Mrs. Smith, Mr. Smith is just outside. Why don't you go show him?"

Guys were usually pretty decisive when it came to shopping, especially someone like Michael.

"Show him?" Emily wasn't really interested in Michael's opinion.

She was about to brush it off when she heard that familiar voice outside the fitting room. "Don't take too long, we're in a hurry. If you can't decide, just pick one."

Hearing this, Emily felt a bit speechless. She exchanged an awkward glance with the sales clerk, then lifted her skirt and slowly walked out of the fitting room.

They all said delicate skin could hide imperfections, especially for women. Smooth, radiant skin was considered the best cosmetic treatment. When a natural beauty had this kind of skin, it was an even bigger advantage.

In this regard, Emily was the perfect example. Her skin wasn't just delicate; it had a natural rosy glow. With the lighting, she looked even more radiant and elegant.

So, with just a simple purple mermaid dress and her long, beautiful hair casually pinned up, Emily looked elegant and gentle, exuding feminine charm. Indeed, when Michael saw Emily like this, he was momentarily stunned.

Usually, Emily dressed casually at home. Although she was still charming, it didn't compare to her current refined look.

"Not bad; let's go with this one." Michael couldn't help but smile, his gaze dropping to see that she was only wearing a pair of very flat patent leather shoes. "Try those shoes," Michael suggested, pointing to a pair of transparent crystal high heels on the counter.

The shoes were indeed beautiful, making the surroundings shine even more brightly, and they matched her outfit perfectly, making her look noble and elegant! Emily's eyes couldn't help but light up. But those heels must be at least 3 inches high. Michael was really confident about his height!

But since she was pregnant, such dangerous shoes were not an option for now.

Emily reluctantly looked away, pretending not to like them, and replied to Michael. "I'll just wear these. Since you're in such a hurry, I don't dare delay any longer."

With that, Emily confirmed the dress with the sales clerk and was about to go to the counter to pay, but Michael beat her to it. "Emily, do you want to create an image of me being 'strictly controlled by my wife' or 'relying on a woman'?" Hearing this, Emily immediately understood what Michael meant. She rolled her eyes but obediently stepped back behind Michael. After Michael paid, they walked out of the mall.

"All my clothes are at the rental house. You could have gone back with me to get them, no need to buy new ones." Seeing a dress cost tens of thousands of dollars, Emily felt her heart ache.

Michael, of course, wasn't short of money. He just smiled and complained to Emily. "Your clothes? You mean those burlap dresses you bought online? I wonder if they chafe your skin? No wonder your hands are the softest part of you." With that, Michael took Emily's hand.
